Ready for me to absolutely demolish you guys?” Eddie is smiling at him, the one where the tips of his teeth are visible and that brings out his crow’s feet, eyes bright and playful in a way that makes Buck’s heart skip a beat. It’s nothing like the small, polite smile he’d given the woman earlier. Buck tries his very best, but ultimately fails, to not feel happy about that. “Yeah right, Diaz. The only one here losing is going to be you.” Or: five times Buck hates the thought of Eddie with someone else, and one time he doesn’t need to.

Hen can’t help but laugh a little on the way over. This thing Buck is doing — well, it’s sweet, she’ll give him that. It’s just very…Buck. It had surprised her at first, when he broke the news, but in the next instant it hadn’t surprised her at all. They’ve been at this for years, really. The loaded looks, the casual touches, the attached-at-the-hip of it all, the grand gestures, even — like this one. She’s fairly certain they don’t know they’re doing it. Scratch that, they absolutely don’t know they’re doing it. But that hasn’t stopped them so far, and she doesn’t suppose it will now. Or: When Bobby, Hen, and Chimney show up for the big reveal, no one answers the door. Only Hen figures out why.
