I was a cis buck writer but after seeing season six and what leads into season seven I… honestly have some thoughts about trans buck. About Buck transitioning at a young age, and his parents being so absent that they just don’t really care. He’s broken parts, so it doesn’t matter who he actually is. Maddie helping with the earlier parts of his transition when he’s younger but by the time he’s in high school he’s on his own.

I mean, he’s addicted to the idea of starting over, maybe so he can continue to reinvent and have people forget who he once was. Along with that, Buck just kind of doesn’t deal with the feelings that he has towards men. Maybe because he writes it off as being related to him being trans. It’s not attraction, it’s jealousy, because he would like to be that man. He hates himself so much for so long that it’s the only way he can see it.

Eventually, after his life does calm down after the lightning strike, he is left looking at his life for the first time in a long time. Looking at, not the way that other people see him, but the way that he sees himself and others. And so, finally, that’s when he’s able to come to the realization about his bisexuality. Because it’s the first time in ages he’s actually been examining his own feelings through any lense other than needing to prove himself. Not just as a person, but as a man.

the thing that finally sent me to tears is that Buck is imagining himself a perfect world and a part of that perfect world is his parents loving him and paying attention to him. Okay.
