I've just been thinking, and I feel like maybe the buddie shippers (not all of the buddies obv, but some) who overanalyze bucktommy scenes to find negative subtext tend to forget that the show... isn't... written... for them?

Like, the writers aren't writing episodes with only an audience of hyperanalytical shippers in mind. This is a network TV procedural drama. They are writing the show with the general audience in mind. 😭 AND, as someone else pointed out, each episode is written like 2 weeks in advance, because Tim likes to live dangerously apparently lmao. I love this show, I'm not trying to disparage it or insult the writers.

What I'm saying, is that nothing in the writing or in Oliver's acting indicates that (for example) Bobby saying Tommy is "good" for Buck actually means the opposite, or that Buck was in any way uncomfortable with the daddy kink joke (your honor, he was leading the witness. he started the flirty exchange!!)

There are no hidden hints here.

This is not like some of Buck's previous relationships where other characters like Eddie have expressed concern or dislike over his girlfriends. Absolutely everybody (minus maybe the Buckley parents but who cares about them) has been supportive of buck and tommy dating, and, again, Bobby himself explicitly stated that it is GOOD that they are dating.

But idk man. I'm just tired of the discourse.

People got mad that Tommy brought up his jealousy of the New 118 again during the Date Scene but as someone who Understands Media I think that’s what we call Planting because it seems like Tommy’s arc next season will be about trying to find his place in the 118 family and thereby resolve his jealousy/desire for a family so the writers wanted to emphasize that character motivation as set up for next season.

It didn't happen, therefore it doesn't fucking matter. Just like any cut scene. It's a fun idea but, at the end of the day, it doesn't make sense to the story actively being told on our screens. By the way, Eddie was supposed to be for Maddie before jlh thought Chimney would be a better choice. Why is no one rooting for that to happen? Oh, right... because that's a straight couple.

But, anyway, guess who decided they didn't want Eddie to have a queer storyline this season?? Ryan. The story that is being told through Eddie right now is important to HIM, Ryan, on a personal level. He likes showing that a straight man can be vulnerable and NOT be related to his sexuality. Do you understand how important THAT representation might be to some people?

So, your argument holds no water, and if that's all you have to cling to while you're still holding out hope for Buddie, you should take a step back.

Because I hate to break it to you, but if they really were trying to get bi Buck in S3/S4, it would have been with Albert Han. Not Eddie. Because Shannon had JUST died at the end if S2 and Eddie is still not over that shit I'm S7...

I don't actually care what BuckTommy shippers are doing just like I don't care what Buddie shippers are doing (unless they BLATANTLY LIE about articles and quotes and even things we see in canon.) Two wrongs don't make a right, but just like I say when Oliver throws his little tantrums on instagram or when Edy decided to be passive-aggressively nice to her haters, you cannot be a little bitch on social media and not expect a reaction. Don't like it? Don't start it. As for Ryan's past behavior, you're not gonna get me to keep defending that when - it's only brought up to illustrate how y'all can brush off certain things depending on who says it (we don't support hypocrisy around here) and - the folks in your own fandom have decided *I* think he is homophobic and *I* must "hate him" because I...support his interpretations? Don't care if he ever plays an explicitly queer man on 9-1-1? Don't need to prove why he "loves" Buddie? Why should I side with people who can't even be bothered to read properly? They're clearly not getting the message no matter what I post. Unfortunately, that shit's probably gonna follow him for a long time and no amount of "defense" will change public perception. He has to prove he's actually trying to learn and grow and be better. I know we’re all annoyed at the dumb takes about the date scene. But I’m tired of people being like “it should have been a serious scene about how bad Gerrard is.” Like we weren’t dealing with enough heavy stuff in an episode like this? Truly really? It was supposed to be a light funny scene not some deep dive into what makes Tommy click. And coming from the people that hate this man’s presence anywhere in the show is laughable.

We obviously know how bad Gerrard is so why should we let even the idea of that man ruin what's supposed to be a nice night together.

The dinner between Buck and Tommy is Buck's time to enjoy his own thing. And at that moment in time, his thing is being with his boyfriend after an extremely stressful day.

Like, this was the season finale... the writers used it to tie up a few things, and they deliberately left things up in the air for the upcoming season.

Clearly, Gerrard will be a force to be reckoned with in S8, and Tommy will have plenty of time to bring up the geriatric asshole then.
