I needed a shave. Recent photo (laid up with a load of broken bones-shoulder, ribs, pelvis, pubic bone) the balloon in the background is for my 67th from my daughte
In September I broke my hip and wrist in a fall. Metal plates bolted in.
In December I had a complete blockage in my artery (leg) this lead to gangrene in my foot - artery bypass.
In February another fall broke shoulder, several ribs, cracked pelvis, hence current bed bound.

Love Letters To My Dad
A ‘sexy beast’ is probably the one thing you never want to hear your Dad referred to as, but unfortunately that, along with many more equally cringe worthy descriptions of my darling Pops are now forever ingrained to my conscience. All because in amongst a box of old photos and vinyl records, I stumbled upon a wonderful collection of love letters. more than 100 pages of romantic, innocent, sexy and very cringe worthy words sent by various women to Dad between 1974 and 1982.

Some of them made me laugh, some made me cry, others made me wish I could unread them (note to self: sexting existed pre mobile phone in letter form), but all of them made me smile. They are golden.
You know that awful stomach churning moment when you finally pluck up the courage to send that WhatsApp message to the person you’ve been dating a while, only to freak out when you don’t get a response within an hour? Imagine having to wait days, weeks even for a letter to come through your door confirming whether your affections are unrequited. Our parents had it damn tough.
We’re fooled into thinking our parents are the enemy, that they don’t understand your teenage angst, your mid twenties heartbreak and your unfounded crisis of confidence, but let me tell you something: they have all experienced it too.
My Dad is the kindest and funniest man I know, and I love him dearly. He’s one of the only people who can consistently make me laugh until I cry, and even my friends affectionately refer to him as Papa C. Now I’ve read these letters I’ve been offered a glimpse into his life as a ‘me’, a twenty something singleton in London trying to get it right, and despite the graphic details of his pre marriage sex life being branded into my brain for life, it’s kind of worth it because I have so much dirt on him now that never again will he attempt to embarrass me with awful anecdotes of my childhood.
Once I found all of these I figured I wasn’t the only one who’d want to know what dating was like in the 70s, so I’ve started a podcast where you can listen to me reading, cringing, crying, laughing and judging the contents of these letters with my friends.
