if eddie truly couldn’t stomach being alone he could have filed for divorce if he had to and started dating in s2 or whenever he realized shannon wasn’t coming back and was truly out of the picture. he would have gotten caught up in the horror of his own singleness with mr. actually-can’t-stomach-being-alone in s3 after he met ana and liked her enough that carla called him on it. he would have asked ana out on the sidewalk in s4 instead of being pushed into it by buck and bobby. he would have overcompensated after his panic attacks to keep her around and make sure she didn’t notice that she scared him. pepa would not have had to force him to date. she also would not have had to give him a whole lecture about how he shouldn’t become too comfortable with his own loneliness. he’d have been all over the dating apps he downloaded trying to find anyone he could make a connection with. no one would be making fun of him for having never really dated. he probably wouldn’t have to have exhausting heart-to-hearts with bobby every time he considered dating again. chris wouldn’t have had to encourage him to call marisol. he wouldn’t have told her to move out right after she moved in for the wrong reasons. he wouldn’t have one foot out the door with her. do you see how this is a ridiculous thing to say about a character whose one consistent trait is “wanting to be alone and do everything alone and carry the world on his shoulders alone”

the thing about the will is that it is not, in and of itself, a weird thing to do. 'close friend' is a very normal category of person to put down as your kid's guardian in the event of your death - often even if you have family nearby, especially if said family is older. buck is very close with him and chris, he's already involved in chris's life, he lives in the same area, he doesn't have other children or responsibilities that would make him unable to care for chris. it all makes perfect normal sense.

what makes the will thing weird is LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE about how eddie went about it, lmao. the fact that he did it without asking, kept it from him for a year, then neatly sidestepped the question when buck asked WHY he'd kept it from him for a year - none of that is normal! eddie explain!!!
