Mel hugged him tight, but not too tight, before finally pulling back, a bright smile on her face. Her hair was down for once, and she seemed... softer, gentler; mellowed out, almost.

"Okay!" She obeyed, not even trying to peek. Daisy spun with Muguet, their happy trills together filling the air with a joyful aura.

Melody is due back from Galar for the summer today! Her ship is scheduled to arrive within the hour! "Do you want to come wait at the docks with me?" Her mother asks AZ.

AZ has been watching the road for weeks. Ever since they told him she would be coming home. Home. A funny word, for a man too big for houses. A man who has wandered since houses were invented. He starts to rise to his feet at the Madame’s words. He found the preserved flower he had obtained just after she left and tucked it into his pocket. He missed the girl.

Anya leads the way, grateful for his company. Melody's father meets them down there; the two are back on friendly terms, but there's some distance between them still.

Here comes the boat! The students are all at the railings, waving and calling to their families. Melody is waving too, even more enthusiastically when she sees everyone she loves is there waiting for her! Daisy can't wait another second and zooms down to greet them all first.

She's one of the last off the boat, but wastes no time sprinting to her family and giving them big hugs - first mom, then dad, and then tutu.

"I missed you!!"

Mel hands them all over to him individually to say hello. A Sizzlipede (Slappy), a Togepi (Mia), a Galarian Corsola (Lapu), and an Applin (Dumpling)!

"...i missed you."

Mel is home for a week! She's gonna tackle hug tutu and show him her new pokemon!!

He ends up falling over from her tackle, and hugs her warmly. He greets each Pokemon gravely.

AZ drags himself inelegantly inside. He has a small plant (roots and all) in his hands to show Melody. “Container for this.” He mumbles into the floor where his face has taken up residence as sandy soil runs slowly from his palm to the top of his head.

Melody did as she was told, hurrying out to the garden toolshed and grabbing an unused planter and some potting soil. She plopped it down in front of him, guiding his hands to gently place the plant inside, and patted more soil over the roots.

"What is this? Where did you get it from?"

Brett's wandering Turffield waiting for Milo's next match to start, before he spots a familiar face. He gets closer, only to realize his suspicions are correct! It's Melody! "Hey!! Melody looked up from her work, hearing a familiar voice.

"Brett?!" She grinned, sidestepping the many Wooloo surrounding her and rushing to the fence, hopping it and offering a hug. Shes covered in dirt and hay, but doesnt seem to notice or mind.

"I'm actually working with Milo! I'm kind of an exchange student here, this is the "work" part of the work-study!" She looks very proud of this fact, hands on her hips. "He even said he'd endorse me for the Gym Challenge! But what are YOU doing here?"

Vega is the one that delivers Melody’s gift, straight to her house. Psychic types are very helpful, to say the least. Once Melody hears Vega's head banging at the door, the gift is handed over. Inside there’s a book of Sinnohan legends, since Melody was so kind to share Alolan ones, and two pins: Flygon and Golisopod! Melody answers quickly and is delighted to see Vega! She gives head pats and a cookie while she reads the note. The pins immediately are attached to her backpack and she quickly skims through the book with a smile; she was definitely reading this over the weekend.

Before Vega goes, she sends the little pokemon off with a gift of her own for Brett - a book on astronomy and wayfinding, along with a box of homemade cookies and her own note:

"Mahalo Brett! I'll take you up on that battle sometime soon! Come visit in the spring sometime, the crowds aren't too bad and the weather is perfect!

"It says my name, silly! And everyone gets a uniform, it's how you can tell we're gym challengers! I kinda like it..." Melody turns back around and tugs at the hem a bit. "The opening ceremony is later today, it's gonna be on TV! Mama's gonna watch and record it too, you can watch with her!" She's got a sparkle in her eyes that hasnt been there in quite a while.

Daisy chatters away, telling Muguet about all about the places they've been. And lots of flowers!!

"It's my uniform for the gym challenge! Check it out!" She backs up a little so more of her is visible, and turns her back to the camera, moving her hair out of the way. There's her name on her jersey, with the number 5 printed below it. "I got to pick the number!" She radiates excitement.

Melody is there on the screen! She waves, and Daisy waves too! Hello!! She has some kind of uniform on, and her hair is down for once.

"Tutu, you there too?"

Melody examined the whistle, admiring every little detail. It was beautiful! She put it around her neck and gave it a few test blows. It sounded just as nice as it looked.

"Mahalo, tutu..." She hugged him tight. "I'll call you when I get there, mom can help show you how video chat works again if you forget okay?"

Daisy clung to Muguet and cried as well. She didnt want to leave her behind! Melody held them both close in a hug and kissed Muguet's little forehead. "I'll be back, I promise."

Melody is here, looking a little sad. She has a backpack and suitcase with her. "Today's the day, I'm leaving for Galar for a little bit..."

AZ doesn’t open his eyes as he lazes in the sun. Instead he reaches into his coat pocket and brings out a small object. He holds it out to her, and when she takes it, she can see its a carven whistle made in the shape of the tattoo over his heart and the flower that Muguet carried. It was toughly palm size, with finger holes along two petals, tied to a leather cord that fit about her neck that was strung with a couple of wooden beads painted with tiny fairy handprints.

He was taking this better than Muguet. She had burst into tears and was holding both Daisy, and her trainer.

“Hush, cher. They will return.”

Melody flails about and puts herself out, the long sleeve of her new sweater a bit scorched. She sighs in annoyance. The "slice of bacon" goes for her boots next, trying to bite through and light those on fire. She scrambles backwards out of the grassy patch and up against AZ.

"It's so sassy!"

The firebug crawls out of the grass just far enough to hiss and spit a few more embers, but doesn't dare come closer with the giant nearby.

"I think it's camera shy..."

“Snack sized and snack shaped.” AZ holds rookidee between his forefinger and thumb. Lifts the bird towards his mouth.

Her head pokes up over the grass, giving him The Look. Silly tutu. At least the bird got a snack out of it!

Melody opens her mouth to sass him but gets distracted by rustling grass; she ducks back down and scoots closer...

"Hey, little buggy, what are you?!"

A click of a phone camera is heard, followed shortly by a ferocious little squeak and a poof of flame.

"Ah-Ow! No! Bad! This shirt's brand new-!!"
