Itto flinched at first, half-expecting Yanqing to bolt, but instead, the boy burst into a full-bodied laugh. Itto’s grin widened into a proud smirk.
“If you’re sure! That’s what us oni are all about—being the best helpers!” he declared with enthusiasm, leaning in close to the boy, his crimson eyes sparkling.
“You like ‘im?” Itto asked, pointing at the massive beetle perched on his head. “His name’s Kabu! Y’know, ‘cause he’s an onikabuto. Not the greatest name, but hey, it fits, right? The kids back home call him Buggie, and he kinda responds to that too!” he added with a laugh, rocking his head back before holding out a hand for a proper introduction.
“Arataki mother-frickin’ Itto at your service! The one and ONI, the greatest oni you’ll ever meet!” He puffed out his chest in mock grandeur, though he made a point to keep his cursing clean for the kid’s sake.
Itto’s smile faltered briefly when Yanqing mentioned his guardian being busy. He furrowed his brows but shrugged it off quickly. “Well, he shouldn’t have left you alone, so guess what? I’m sticking around.”
He grinned again, shifting the focus back to something fun. “Alright, little man, what’s on your mind for food? Anything you like—on the house!” Itto gestured grandly to the line of vendors ahead, squinting at their signs and trying to figure out what looked best.
As he scanned the stalls, he missed the subtle exchange of glances between Yanqing and someone in the crowd—a mentor keeping watch from a distance. But for now, Itto’s attention was fully on his new companion, determined to make sure the kid had a good time.

Itto nodded thoughtfully, crouching slightly to meet the boy’s gaze. “You want me to help look for ‘em? Bet your parent’s probably runnin’ around looking for you everywhere,” he said, holding his trusty onikabuto in his hands. The bug fluttered its wings as Itto absentmindedly stroked its shell, his eyes scanning Yanqing’s face for a reaction.
“Why haven’t you seen him?” he asked, tilting his head curiously. He straightened up, glancing around for anyone who might remotely resemble the boy. Blonde hair, maybe? Someone who looked equally worried? No one stood out in the crowd.
“If you’re hungry, I can grab you another snack,” Itto offered with a wide grin. “Or, if your feet are tired, we can just walk around together till they come lookin’ for you!”
To lighten the mood, he struck a playful pose, flexing his biceps with exaggerated flair—his onikabuto now perched confidently atop his head. “I can carry ya too! See these bad boys?” He flexed again in a different silly stance, grinning as if he were showing off for a crowd.
He hesitated, hoping he hadn’t overdone it. People had been wary of him before, intimidated by his larger-than-life appearance and energy. But this kid? He seemed different. Itto just hoped his antics would make him laugh instead of scaring him away.

Itto strolled down the bustling streets of Luofu, his eyes darting between the colorful vendors and the mouthwatering displays of food. He practically salivated at the thought of trying something new. Adjusting the giant beetle perched on his shoulder, he casually tossed his weapon into the air, watching it vanish into thin air as if it were nothing.
As he wandered, a vendor caught his attention—a man handing a tanghulu skewer to a small, blonde-haired boy. Intrigued, Itto approached the same stand, glancing at the kid as he walked away to sit alone nearby.
“I’ll take two of those, and a fruit cup to-go,” Itto said, his excitement bubbling over. While waiting for his order, he kept an eye on the boy, who remained seated off in the corner. Itto couldn’t help but wonder, Where are this kid’s parents?
Once his snacks were ready, he handed over a generous tip, thanked the vendor, and dug into his treat as he wandered off. The tanghulu was gone in no time, but the kid still sat there, unmoving and alone.
Breaking off a small piece of mint, Itto fed it to his trusty onikabuto companion before making up his mind. Alright, big guy, let’s hope we don’t freak him out. He walked over, careful not to come on too strong.
“Uh, you doin’ alright?” Itto asked, crunching the last bits of his sugary snack. He smiled warmly down at the boy. “You lost? Not that I’m great at playin’ tour guide or anything, but you got a guardian or someone around? You seem kinda lonely.”
He rubbed the back of his neck, his concern more genuine than the casual tone he tried to project. “Oh, and solid recommendation on the snack!” He gestured toward his empty stick with a grin. “Totally hit the spot.”

Itto let out a long sigh before standing up. “Wait here,” he muttered, disappearing into the back. After rummaging for a moment, he returned with a pack of henna.
Cutting it open, he settled back into his chair and carefully began to draw a spider lily, using red for shading and detail. He gave a small nod, satisfied with the makeshift solution.
“Alright, keep that on. This one’s, uh, free of charge or whatever,” he said, waving a hand as he put away his equipment. “It’s not the real deal, but it’ll stay for a few days. Just swing by when you need a touch-up—it’s on the house since these don’t take long.”
He mumbled as he finished the design, stepping back to give it a final once-over. With a grin, he leaned back in his chair and gave the guy a thumbs-up.
“See ya, Blade! Name’s Itto. Feel free to stop by anytime!”

Itto leaned back in his chair, giving the brooding guy a once-over before flashing a wide grin. "Alright! One tattoo comin’ up!" he declared, grabbing his sketch pad and snapping on a pair of gloves. "Go ahead and take a seat."
This wasn’t anything new to Arataki—it wasn’t the first time some brooding type had walked in for a some cryptic tattoo. Over time, he’d learned to navigate the quirks of his clients: the coarse textures of scarred skin, the cryptic meanings behind their requests, and, occasionally, the downright foolish designs people insisted on immortalizing.
But hey, as a gang leader—and a seasoned tattoo artist—he’d seen it all. He’d inked plenty of folks, himself included, so every session was just another chapter in his book of chaos.
He rolled his shoulders, settling in as the stranger sat across from him. “Alright, buddy. What’s the plan? What can I get ya?” he asked, laying his paper out with an eager grin. >> I fear he's the silliest....
Call it curiosity for the world. He had once attempted this before in a city. Wondering just to what extent such inks kept, to what degree his body would consider any such intrusion a wound to be healed over. Sleeve rolled back and arm held out. "A spider lily." He tapped his fingers right over the wrist. More advanced methods faded too quickly. He couldn't help but think about the possibility that it might just heal over itself as he was marking it to begin with. "No need to be careful, I have a high pain tolerance." If it wasn't such an odd request he might have even encouraged him to amp it up on purpose.

“Huh. Should’ve mentioned this beforehand,” Itto muttered, poking at the man’s skin again. He watched in disbelief as it healed right up, smooth and unmarked. “Yeah, death can retain beauty, alright—unlike your skin,” he grumbled under his breath, reaching for a thicker needle.
He started working again, his mind racing for ideas on how to make the ink stick. “Most people come in here with bruises and cuts—makes my job easier. No wonder you look like a freakin’ newborn.” His teasing tone was light, but his eyes were glued to the skin as, once again, the tattoo vanished into nothing.
“What the actual fuck?” Itto rubbed the back of his neck before chuckling in defeat. “Oh boy...” He shook his head, letting out a long sigh.
“Alright, since it looks like I’m gonna be running a whole science experiment on your skin, can I at least get your name?” he asked, swapping out the needle for a longer one, ready to try yet another approach.

“Ahh???” Itto leaned closer, glancing at the guy’s wrist before grabbing a sheet of paper. He pressed it over the area to size up the space, muttering to himself as he worked. Once measured, he sketched out the design and prepped the client’s skin.
“Kinda morbid, huh? What’s the deal with this?” he asked, his curiosity getting the better of him. Sure, it wasn’t really his business, but they’d be stuck together for the next few hours, so why not make conversation?
The moment the needle hit skin, Itto settled into his rhythm, humming as he focused on the clean lines of the design. Everything was going smoothly—until it wasn’t.
His brow furrowed as he wiped the ink away, only to find the lines... gone. Vanished. Itto blinked, staring at the dark-haired man’s wrist in disbelief.
“Hate to be that guy, but uh… Do you, like, heal or something?” he asked, his tone somewhere between confusion and intrigue. He dabbed at the skin again, watching as the ink seemingly absorbed into it.
“Oh, boy,” he groaned, throwing his head back in mock defeat. “Guess I gotta bring out the big guns!”
This wasn’t just another tattoo anymore—this was a challenge, and for the eccentric oni, that was where the real fun began.
