Theory: Andy Samberg is a Time Traveler

i don't think people realize how insane andy samberg being cast as real life photojournalist david e. scherman in Lee (2023) actually is. we moved on from that way too fast. like yeah okay the movie went straight to VOD in most countries. no awards buzz. barely-there press tour. kate winslet got an oscar snub despite putting her whole winsletussy into it WHICH IS SO UNFAIR don’t even get me started

but i simply can't move on from samberg's casting. this is almost an "anne hathaway's husband looks like shakespeare and shakespeare's wife's name was anne hathaway" situation.

this started as a joke and now i’m on ancestry dot com. i don't even believe in past lives but i’m going full pepe silvia about this. string on the corkboard. let’s go:

Evidence 1: they're identical

Evidence 2: all the coincidences

David E. Scherman was a photographer for Life Magazine; Andy's dad is a photographer

David was from New York, Andy's family is from New York

They're both Jewish

Andy's middle name is David

Despite being a serious, award-winning photojournalist who did impressive things, David is described as a goofball and the life of the party by multiple official sources - although the movie didn't really show that side of him. Andy's... well... Andy Samberg Here's an excerpt from Lee's biography about David:

dude was out there being a silly little guy and making puns in the middle of a literal war, doing a high-stress, life-threatening job while being in love and in a five-year situationship with his work partner (lee miller). like sorry but that’s jake peralta behavior

scherman died in 97. he definitely knew what SNL was. his ghost was probably haunting the casting director's dreams like "put sandler in there so they'll know i was goofy :D" but sandler's almost sixty so they got his movie son

mind you: andy did that spread in march 2020 while doing press for palm springs, two years before he was even cast in Lee and three whole years before the movie got out, perfectly mirroring a photo the internet hadn’t seen.

the image on the left lived in lee miller’s archive until being digitalized recently. barely had any public circulation, no pinterest boards, nada.

Evidence 4: Rockefeller Plaza

so i’m just casually googling david e. scherman like a normal person, right (meaning i’m 13 tabs deep into genealogy sites hosted by the mormon church). when all of a sudden... i find his WWII draft card

scherman worked at LIFE Magazine for decades, since the forties

LIFE’s offices moved to Rockefeller Plaza

guess who else worked at Rockefeller Plaza, aka 30 Rock

guess who basically lived there for seven years

Evidence 5, if you wanna go full tinfoil hat: his wardrobe changed

if you follow andy, you know he’s a plaid and white t-shirt guy. that’s it. that’s the whole wardrobe. he owns like five shirts and they’re all flannel. he’s also famously private, and since since Lee premiered he’s barely been seen — just the SNL 50 event (mostly in character), that Everybody’s Live show with Mulaney, and one interview about The Roses.

and suddenly… he’s out there wearing green jackets and trench coats. i’m sorry, when has he ever done that, unless he was in character.

i'm afraid this is an austin butler/elvis presley situation. he’s halfway there. the trench coats have started. all we need is for andy to start doing the davy scherman voice. you know, the new york accent he did in the movie. just go full new york 1940s grandpa, my guy. i support you.

in conclusion: i don’t even know anymore dude so yeah. this man either waited an entire reincarnation cycle or time traveled and used andy samberg's body as a vessel. he knew someone as extraordinary as lee miller would eventually get a biopic, and he’d be in it since he played an important role in her life during the war, so he came back as an actor with a photographer father just to make sure he'd get the camera grip right.

david e. scherman said “no one else is doing it right, fine, i’ll do it myself... again.”

and when the stars aligned… the movie dropped on VOD with no press.

but he nailed the role, of course

maybe andy samberg is david scherman. maybe time is a flat circle, maybe 30 rock is a wormhole. idk, i’m seeing reincarnation patterns in men's journal editorials. i'm just kidding by the way. i did all of this as a silly little bit. or i didn't. who knows? i don't
