the jet lag the game gender theories post

hi i am writing this post (with my friend @gotinnocuous <3) because i am no longer hiding it: i need to forcefem the jet lag boys. this is mostly a joke but it's also not a joke for certain people. namely: sam jetlag-wendover. here's our pitch.

(to cover all my bases: this is all FOR FUNSIES and i am pointing out things that are mostly true and then some conjecture. it's all just a theory a game theory please for the love of god be normal. thank you and enjoy)

the point of this post is to collect all the things we've been ruminating upon in DMs and have a good and easy place to reference them. and certainly this is not all of the egg content that exists on the internet but i don't want to do a wendover deep-dive and probably for everyone's benefit i shouldn't. i also hit image limit with this post. lol. anyways lets get into it

THE PITCH: sam is most likely a closeted & repressed trans girl who has not yet cracked her shell.

THE REASONING:

NUMBER ONE: SAM IS A BUSY LITTLE FREAK

has been doing youtube since he was like 17 and basically nothing else. to me this indicates a certain kind of freak already but running a successful channel with a high-volume output on top of being in university and then eventually starting a media company is like. well it's a lot of work. and many chalk this up to sam just being a #workaholic but i think it demonstrates something a lil deeper

also takes it incredibly seriously:

"the reason why you can tell he's a little more neurotic about youtube is that he's always super concerned about what the subreddit and the youtube comments have to say about him / his actions. he's constantly mentioning things that people on the reddit say. or what the youtube comments say. which is like, you don't have to check that stuff, you know." - my friend

(don't look at his reddit account. it's a little embarrassing how much he cares about what people post on there like girl log OFF)

he's also like. constantly traveling ("one in three days" acc to the layover (!!!)) and if you take a look at his instagram you can see how many places he's been in the span of like a year. which is crazay work to me like damn girl you're not tired?? i would be!

a small list of the places he's lived / visited in non-jltg capacity since graduating high school: scotland, france, australia, colorado, hong kong, rwanda, japan, switzerland, mexico, thailand, the bahamas. this is insane to me

to quote myself explaining this to another party: "[sam] moves through the world as if he is on a schedule so busy it's pushing back his immediate gender crisis by like, 5 years"

in short: running away from something queen?

NUMBER TWO: SAM'S ATHLETIC GLOW UP AND SUBSEQUENT DISCOMFORT WITH MASCULINITY

unfortunately for sam launching a youtube career when you're a literal teenager means that everyone gets to watch you develop into a full adult in real time. which does mean we get wonderful egg-y photos like these

"but joey" i hear you say. "these are just normal pics of a post-pubescent boy. the discomfort he is feeling is just normal teen-hood and suddenly being in the public eye"

and to this i say: perhaps. but then we ALL have seen sam suddenly experience an Athletic Glow Up of the kind that happens to the autistic nerd you knew in high school who you didn't talk to but still followed on ig and then five years later he's buff now and it's 2 am you're internet-stalking him and in lieu of finding a job this guy started lifting weights. except for sam this was running marathons and he also still held a full-time youtube career.

again: special kind of freak. anyways

in discussing sam's sudden and obvious Glow Up where he lost all his cheek baby fat and started growing out his hair we would be remiss to not point out that sam is also. kinda schleppy. sorry i don't mean to be rude sam. but it's true

because sam's wardrobe seems to exclusively consist of graphic t-shirts, athletic wear, and comfortable shapeless sweatshirt/pants outfits

he does not wear (masc) formalwear to events where it would look better for him to wear formalwear (see: many nebula premiere events)

adam & ben wearing blazers (and toby wearing THE TIE <3) and sam in. his japanese art shirt which i do know he wore to signal the next season's location i do think that's cute. but still.

TWO SEPARATE EVENTS BUT WEARING THE EXACT SAME OUTFIT IS CRAZY. im miserable

the rare occasions he does wear formal wear i do think he gets kind of femmy with it. ignore brian this ain't abt him

(like ok sorry i just think the streamys fits are sooo dykey. like the converse and the BLUE it just looks so pretty on her <3)

but anyways the point is that sam does not really seem to enjoy masculinity. in fact sam seems to perform it with a sort of full-body grimace

and his HAIR. ok we can talk about his hair now. my beautiful princess with a fuckass bob

it's important to note that seemingly the only active choice sam has ever made in his appearance is to grow out his hair and keep it at the length that it is. because we all know that one guy who over the course of 2020 lockdown grew out his hair because no haircuts and then chopped it off. for many cisgender guys this is just a phase

it is not just a phase to sam though. he has had and maintained this length for almost 4 years

he made the switch from a barbershop to a hairdresser and liked it sooo much he talked about it on the layover. and they give him a discount because he's a youtuber yes but it's also like. damn gender euphoria from a nice hair experience at the hairdresser

and yet despite all this!! still kinda schleppy!! like she is looking a wee bit greasy sorry love!

for the love of god get bangs or something. yknow. or a hairtie. can someone teach her about DRY SHAMPOO /lovingly

"he's also vain about his hands and nails" says my friend, citing the layover NZ when sam discussed how digging the lucky hole fucked up his nails and he was upset about that. could mean nothing!!

in conclusion: as a trans person who has recently tried to overhaul his entire wardrobe because all of it is shit from when i was seventeen, Real Recognize Real okay i Know where he's dressing from

NUMBER THREE: SAM DOES NOT HAVE ANY FUCKING PICTURES ON HIS DAMN WALLS

this is a complicated point to make. i'm gonna break it down as much as i can

whenever the boys* are on a podcast you can see their front camera views

and sam is always in a room of his house that looks bizarrely bare

aah yes me in my house with Grey Couch and Foam Roller and Pop Filter. and Ugly Lamp I Bought Because There's Not A Light Here

(in comparison, adam and ben both have art on their walls, because they are normal boys*)

"sam's couch looks like it comes from a box. like i wouldn't be surprised if he googled "couch" and picked the first thing that came up" - my friend again

he has ONE visible photo on his wall and it's skiing related. and it's kind of a random placement like he didn't know where to put it. and it's small. lol

sam OWNS this condo. presumably he has a mortgage on this condo. and yet he seems to spend absolutely zero time in his home or any effort into making it look like a person lives there

i'm not like, saying that it's inherently cisgender to decorate your house, but it's just an insane repression of identity to the point where you just can't tell anything about sam from his house at all. his house that HE PAYS A MORTGAGE ON

again i ask: running from something, queen?

*we will not be getting into this here but i have reasons to believe ben doyle is getting a little dyke-y, a little lesbiotic with it. adam unfortunately is the most cisgender man alive but i do think he'd enjoy taking a class on drag (as in, how to perform it)

the period of sam's career where people (AND BRIAN?) were calling him "wendy" (short for wendover)

(this honestly seems like a joke from brian that people started picking up on and parroting back to sam. wild to me but whatever)

i'm just saying. if even REDDIT and TWITTER can catch on to your eggy-ness and start saying misogynistic/homophobic things at you i think you have to sort some things out.

to close us out: here's @gotinnocuous it all very succinctly:

Listen I may not remember my dreams, travel 1 in 3 days a year, live in an isolated, rural area alone, have no art or photographs on my walls or room decorations to indicate a real person lives here, skip out on going to disneyworld with my coworkers/friends to do work in a hotel Room alone, skip out on spending time with my coworkers after work ends, say stuff like "people tell me l have emotions that I don't even remotely remember having," constantly stay busy with work (which l've been doing since I was 17, in college) or my intense athletic hobbies, Jokingly reply "yes" when someone asks me if l'm a guy or girl, but I'm very satisfied in my life

IN CONCLUSION: it is very easy to look at one or even some of these various facts & points and think "oh sam is just a weird guy youtuber, but he seems pretty confident he knows what he's doing." and sam literally has a rapidly growing media career and is already successful at that so i'm not gonna knock his hard work or try to baby him by saying "poor baby sam doesn't know she's a girl :( we must save her". but when collected together it feels fairly obvious to me that sam's entire relationship with gender & identity is one where it just. might be easier to be a girl. you know?

i have absolutely no intention of like, harassing any of the jltg crew about any of this (AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU), because that is insane, and i am just a simple blogger with too much time on his hands. i DON'T want to answer the question "does sam know?" and don't try to answer it for me. as stated before reddit & the rest of the internet LOVE to say misogynistic and homophobic things about him, often to his face, and the only thing i really want is for people to leave her alone and let her figure it out on her own time. but this is #real to me. i collect #evidence. you may field me any questions, comments, concerns, further evidence in my askbox. thank you. happy off-season to you all. goodnight
