A Female Musician You Need to Know: Hiromi.
A Female Musician You Need to Know: Hiromi
During a class, the professor asked if we knew of any female artists who don't sing. And even though I'm sure there are tons out there, it was actually pretty hard to come up with an answer.
In the music industry, where men tend to gain the most popularity, I feel the need to bring you a recommendation for a female musician whom I personally love very much.
Tumblr media
Born in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture in 1979, she started playing piano at the age of 6 and studied composition at the Yamaha Music School.
At 17, she performed with Chick Corea. In 1999, she entered the Berklee College of Music in Boston. While still a student, she signed with the prestigious jazz label Telarc and made her world debut in 2003 with the album "Another Mind." Since this album, Hiromi has garnered acclaim and performed with an impressive variety of musicians, including bassist Anthony Jackson, drummer Simon Phillips, guitarist David Fiuczynski, and drummer Lenny White.
While Hiromi has solo compositions, she also has various collaborative projects with other artists. One of her most recent projects is "Sonicwonderland," with bassist Hadrien Feraud, drummer Gene Coye, and trumpeter Adam O'Farrill. This project explores new musical frontiers, challenging conventional jazz boundaries. Hiromi dives into bold new sounds, mixing jazz, rock, funk, and other genres to create something totally unique and captivating.
The project already two albums out, and if I can indulge myself by recommending a song, I'm sure you'll enjoy, I'd say "Yes! Ramen!!" Aside from loving the title and the album cover, the song itself is just so, so good.
Tumblr media
Although there's not much more I can say about Hiromi, beyond recommending her over and over, I'll allow myself one more indulgence: she is the composer of the soundtrack for "Blue Giant," an anime film released in 2023 about a young man who wants to be a great jazz saxophonist. She brought together around 30 musicians to create the music for this film.
And I almost forgot to say she has a Tiny Desk!
Without much more to add, I really hope you explore her music, and maybe we can start talking about more awesome female artists!

When vocals mattered in Kpop. Let's talk about MAMAMOO.
Back around 2018-2019 and subsequent years, when San Borja Park and GAM were filled with people dancing, Kpop even played on national TV morning shows, and the first bubble tea and Korean food shops were open, fans knew a wide variety of Kpop groups recognized for both their dancing and their voices (and to be honest, also for their visuals).
While many might think of BTS or TWICE (if we want to include a girl group) when I mention Kpop, today I'm here to talk about MAMAMOO.
Tumblr media
A group made up of four women: Solar, Moon Byul, Whee In, and Hwa Sa, belonging at the time to a small company, RBW. Their name comes from the word "mama," which is usually the first word babies pronounce. With this, they wanted to represent the closeness and intimacy they seek to achieve with listeners through their music. They debuted in 2014 with their first album "Hello" and their promotional song "Mr. Ambiguous."
Although they quickly became known in Korea for their incredible voices and for breaking a bit with Korean beauty stereotypes, with some of them being considered "ugly" by the media, MAMAMOO managed to expand worldwide. With their album "Purple," they reached number 1 on the Billboard album charts.
With their song "gogobebe," MAMAMOO became widely recognized, at least in the Chilean Kpop scene (where I was immersed). Many groups of people learned the dance and performed it, as it was one of MAMAMOO's songs with the most captivating choreography until then. In fact, the "Gogobebe" Dance Practice with MinaMiyoung reached the top 3 in the list of most-viewed practice videos on YouTube in 2019.
Tumblr media
Even so, MAMAMOO never abandoned the group's essence, where singing was their greatest strength. The mix of both powerful and soft voices allowed the members to create a harmonization full of colors.
The group has an extensive discography, but if you'll allow me to recommend a couple of songs: if you feel like crying, "I Miss You" from the album "Melting." And something a bit more upbeat: "Hip" from the album "Reality in Black," but only because it's iconic. I could spend a long time talking about this and recommending songs because there are so many, but it's time to stop.
Tumblr media
You might consider me a hater of current Kpop because of my blog title (and i am), but with this, i want to say: bring back songs with the artists' true essence, bring back enjoyment and good voices in Kpop, where you could listen to a song and know which group it was from by its unique style, not so influenced by North American culture.
STAN MAMAMOO!
Or actually, bring back MAMAMOO!

BTS Paved The Way for other K-artists worldwide.
By Camila Campos Vargas.
In the records of music history, few acts have single-handedly reshaped a genre's global trajectory quite like BTS. Before their meteoric rise, K-pop, while boasting a fervent fanbase, largely remained a niche phenomenon outside of Asia. However, through a potent blend of strategic innovation, authentic artistry, and unprecedented fan engagement, BTS didn't just break through Western barriers; they obliterated them, forging a wide-open path for K-pop to become the worldwide cultural powerhouse it is today.
Tumblr media
Paving the Way
BTS's groundbreaking approach to social media was arguably their most revolutionary tactic. Avoiding traditional media gatekeepers, they cultivated a direct, intimate relationship with their burgeoning fanbase, ARMY, across platforms like Twitter, YouTube, V-app, Fancafe and Weverse. This direct communication fostered unparalleled fan loyalty and mobilization, allowing them to amass a global following organically and bypass conventional routes to exposure.
Tumblr media
Their music itself was equally transformative. Addressing universal themes of mental health, self-love, and societal pressures, their lyrics resonated deeply with young audiences worldwide, transcending language barriers through raw emotion and relatable experiences.
Tumblr media
This authentic storytelling, combined with consistently high-quality musical and visual content, showcased the profound artistic depth and production value inherent in K-pop. Crucially, BTS achieved significant milestones in Western markets that were unprecedented for a Korean act. They were the first to top the Billboard Hot 100, secure a Grammy nomination, and address the United Nations General Assembly. These achievements didn't just elevate BTS; they validated K-pop as a whole, proving that music sung predominantly in Korean could not only compete but dominate on a global scale without compromising its identity.
Tumblr media
Ultimately, BTS's impact extends far beyond their own monumental success. By demonstrating K-pop's immense commercial viability and cultural resonance to a global audience, they effectively opened the floodgates for countless other K-pop groups to follow in their footsteps. Their strategic use of digital platforms, universal lyrical themes, and barrier-breaking achievements didn't just popularize K-pop; they globalized it, forever changing the landscape of the international music industry.

About Sabrina Carpenter
When I went to the first class and Professor Simon handed me the marker asking me to write an artist on the board, the very first one I thought of was Sabrina Carpenter. I never imagined it would become such a big topic to talk about. I live by the phrase “it’s never too late,” and that’s the reason I decided to share now my opinion on Sabrina Carpenter and her music—and because I’m kind of shy when it comes to talk in class. But first, I’m going to talk about my perspective on music these few weeks and how it has changed.
As the classes went by—especially the one where the center of the discussion was the one and only Sabrina Carpenter—I started to reflect more deeply on the music I listen to. I’m a big fan of a lot of artists, but I had never really questioned why I started listening to them. The very first thought I had was that, many times, I like an artist simply because they are trendy at the moment and that made me realized I was being superficial about my tastes, I felt ashamed.
I consider myself a musician—I like to play songs on the guitar and sing them, and I also know how to play a few classic pieces on the piano. These recent feelings of shame have made me rethink everything about my musical tastes and everything I thought I knew about them. I felt a bit disappointed, but after a few days with this thought in mind, I stopped caring so much about the logical reason behind liking an artist. Of course, there are some artists I like because of what they do or have done—or dislike for the same reason—but instead of focusing on that, I began thinking more about how their music makes me feel. And this is where Sabrina comes in.
I watched a lot of videos about these topics to feel more confident in what I write. One video I especially liked was from a YouTube channel called It Girl Playbook, and the video was titled Sabrina Carpenter Mindset—don’t judge my sources. The way they portrayed the artist made me realize I had been approaching the topic the wrong way. It was such a relief, because I was becoming too serious about it. And while it’s totally fine to analyze the artist if it resonates with you, in my case, it just didn’t make me feel good.
They show Sabrina by the way she expresses herself through her music, she enjoys it especially the catchy ones, she fits into some stereotypes but no ones like her honestly. She was a Disney Star and that made her recognized in acting and singing but I feel like if people still like the artists when they’re out of Disney is because they’re doing good. Yes, she had it easy in a way by being in that Industry but still she is a person that wants her music to be known.
Sabrina makes life look easy with her music, because makes you feel understandable, in that way I can take daily things more lightly. She doesn’t take herself seriously and she is always joking in her songs that’s what I like about her. She makes me want to dance or even perform her songs just by the beat of it.
One of the quotes that I liked the most of the video is “confidence doesn’t have to be loud and femininity doesn’t have to be fragile”, even though people don’t like her she still is a role model because of how she shows herself in stage or videos, with that mindset she attracts attention
So that’s how Sabrina has changed the way I feel and perceive music in these past few weeks. Hope you like it.

Chappell Roan and the visibility of lesbians
Your favorite artist's favorite artist.
Chappell Roan, an artist celebrated by many, isn't exactly a newcomer to the music scene. Having signed with her first label in May 2015, she's accumulated nearly a decade of experience. Despite facing setbacks, including being dropped by her initial label, Roan persevered, continuing her independent music creation until May 2022, when she released "Naked in Manhattan" and "My Kink is Karma." Her career then surged forward with appearances at major festivals like Coachella and Gov Ball in 2024, followed by an opening slot on Olivia Rodrigo's GUTS World Tour.
Tumblr media
Her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, arrived in September 2023, featuring the singles "Pink Pony Club" and "Hot to Go!" Notably, in early 2025, she received the Grammy for Best New Artist. Her single "Good Luck, Babe!", released in April 2024, also achieved significant success, entering the Billboard Hot 100.
Tumblr media
So, what's the connection to the lesbians? Well, Roan's lyrics and performances are undeniably and unapologetically sapphic, a refreshing and even liberating experience for lesbian listeners. For a community that has often faced invisibility just for being women loving other women, seeing such a talented and openly queer artist embrace and share her identity with the world is incredibly liberating, fulfilling, and heartwarming.
Tumblr media
Personally, I spent years believing that love just wasn't meant for me, mainly because I didn't knew that there was another way to love romantically... one that didn't include men. Obviously, that wasn't represented in mainstream media —let's be real, it's barely properly represented nowadays. Discovering my sexuality was a challenging and frightening yet ultimately freeing journey. I truly believe that having representation like Chappell Roan earlier in life would have made things a little easier for my younger queer self. Nevertheless, I'm grateful to have found her now, and I wholeheartedly embrace my admiration for her.
Tumblr media
'Cause I was never told that I wasn't gonna get
The things I want the most
But people always say, If it hasn't happened yet
Then maybe you should go
California— Chappell Roan.

Without piracy, I wouldn’t be here writing this.
Without piracy, you wouldn’t be here reading this.
Piracy… Unfortunately, this isn’t a One Piece blog I’m writing. Not yet, at least. Right now, I’m going to tell you about the time I discovered one of my favorite romance manga and how I eventually contributed to fixing the subtitles on its new movie, which was just uploaded to Crunchyroll.
I know I’ll probably get some side-eye when I share the name, but… whatever. It’s not like I care anymore. In fact, I wish for everyone to read this manga (and of course, watch its anime).
The name is Sasaki to Miyano.
It’s a BL manga—Boys’ Love, or whatever the youngsters call it.
The story is about Miyano, a BL fan who’s insecure about his feminine features, and Sasaki, a seemingly extroverted senpai who grows fond of Miyano after a school fight. I discovered this story through TikTok. It was a snippet from one of the first chapters of the (at the time) ongoing anime. I thought it was hilarious and adorable… also, the redhead was kinda cute. I’m only human!
Tumblr media
So, I started watching it and eventually read the manga.
I can’t stress this enough: I was getting full-on butterflies—giggling, kicking my feet, rolling on my bed, squeaking. The way Shou Harusono portrays the yearning, love, and devotion between these high school boys is something I will always praise.
So. I hyper-fixated on it. For months. When I found out they were going to release a movie, animating the graduation of their older characters, I went crazy. Even crazier when considering Japan’s copyright policies and the months and months I had to wait for Crunchyroll to release it for us, the rest of the world.
Imagine my surprise when I saw one of the MOST IMPORTANT SCENES of the whole series translated wrong... just wrong.
The scene was about (SPOILER ALERT) Miyano coming out to his mother. She immediately says one of the most beautiful lines:
Tumblr media
Now, what does this have to do with the whole changing-subtitles-on-Crunchyroll thing? Let me show you the receipts✨✨.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thankfully, this story had a happy ending for the fandom. But it’s important to mention that this wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t consumed the manga via piracy. Because of that, I was able to share my feelings with people who love this series as much as I do, and help improve the translation.
I think piracy is inevitable, but I also believe that artists deserve recognition for their hard work. Even though I got to know Sasaki to Miyano through "illegal" means, I’m still growing my collection of the series, with manga volumes, the official artbook, and hopefully, in the future, some merchandise (which is way more expensive because it’s only released in Japan).
Sasaki to Miyano opened doors I didn’t know existed. I improved my English thanks to interactions with fans all over the world, and I even shared some of my own fanfiction about the characters (as cringe as that might sound). Without this experience, I wouldn’t have been able to write this for this course, and you wouldn’t have been able to read it.
Thanks for reading this far!

Hahahah Luffy hates Doflamingo (or mingo like he likes to call) because what he did to Law, even if he doesn't know the full story
I can only imagine Cora being a little insecure because they are brothers so he is not sure about Luffy reaction
But Luffy doesn't give a shit and liked Corazon
(and he also hates Doflamingo even more because he not only hurts Law but also Cora)
Maybe Luffy has even more issues seeing a brother betraying the other? Like not Cora because he knows the good intention, but for Doffy
He can't imagine how a brother could possibly kill his young siblings, since Sabo and Ace always protect Luffy and Ace was more than determined to die for Luffy
So yeah, Luffy has now a lot of reasons to hate this flamingo
Tumblr media
Luffy was more than happy to be friends with Corazon.
Corazon was just confused why Luffy trusted him so quickly.

What do you say when you find out your future self is in a relationship with your bitter rival...?
It's here!
I've been working on this ZoSan comic on-off for almost a year and it so happened I finished it on Valentine's Day. This thing is !40 pages! exactly, aka way too big for me to post on Tumblr, so you can find it on Ko-Fi as a tip-what-you-like free PDF download. A separate txt file with image descriptions is included.
I juggled a lot while working on this (including frequent pain flare-ups in my drawing arm) so if you have any coins to throw my way they would be greatly appreciated, but above all I hope you enjoy the comic! Happy Valentine's Day! ♥
