100 Dialogue Tags You Can Use Instead of “Said”

For the writers struggling to rid themselves of the classic ‘said’. Some are repeated in different categories since they fit multiple ones (but those are counted once so it adds up to 100 new words). 

1. Neutral Tags 

Straightforward and unobtrusive dialogue tags:

2. Questioning Tags 

Curious, interrogative dialogue tags:

Note: everyone is entitled to their own opinion. No I am NOT telling people to abandon said and use these. Yes I understand that said is often good enough, but sometimes you WANT to draw attention to how the character is speaking. If you think adding an action/movement to your dialogue is 'good enough' hate to break it to you but that ruins immersion much more than a casual 'mumbled'. And for the last time: this is just a resource list, CALM DOWN. Hope that covers all the annoyingly redundant replies :)

hello all my name is bambi and when i was in middle school i got bullied very badly because i drew furry art (mind u it was literally just cats) so in 6th grade i was going down the stairs to leave the school bc the day was over and i was distacted and looking down at my phone and the next thing i know i get pushed down the stairs (i fell about 10 steps i think) and then i look back up to see who did it and one of the boys in my class is just standing there like scar from the lion king when he was watching mufasa fall into the gorge (i have to make everything about tlk). and in the same afternoon my mum and i got followed home and a few hours after school's over we hear barking from our window and this group of 4 boys from my class are barking up at my window (absolutely no idea how the fuck they knew which apartment i was on because. lit no one else from my school lived there?? it was just a small building of one bedroom apartments)

other stuff happened too like me and my friends getting harassed by this group of girls spamming the n word (she can say it so idrc about that) and the f slur on us, getting lettuce thrown at me, somebody bringing dog food and throwing it at me at school, and also getting called a zoophile (that one made me cry in class) and whenever i reported anything the best that would happen is the kid being given a slap on the wrist and then going back to their antics; it got so bad that my mother had to go into the school and set up a whole ass meeting with the principal so he could find the kids who were doing shit to me (aka everyone in my grade) and talk to them in front of me (nothing changed). i left for catholic school in 8th grade lol

so quite a lot of people expressed interest in a guide to lion dance! and since the lunar new year is coming up in a couple weeks, which means everyone’s exposure to lions is probably going to increase, i figured i’d go ahead and make it! right click + open in new tab to fullview, etc etc, i hope it’s helpful, although if you only take one thing away from this powerpoint, it’s this: lions are not dragons

disclaimer: i learned fut san style at an american university, and the senior members of the troupe were almost all from hong kong and taiwan, so most of my knowledge is drawn from what they taught me. lion dance varies widely depending on the style and the country of origin, and many schools do things differently! this is just an attempt to establish a baseline and give you a really basic intro to one of my favorite art forms. :)

No but Jax and Pomni becoming close friends makes so much sense BECAUSE Jax would rather eat glass than have Pomni be his therapist friend. Like when he's talking to her, he's talking to her like a peer vs letting her fix his problems. Because he would rather die than have anyone do that.

And Pomni...kinda needs someone who doesn't bullshit her but keeps her from getting too anxious. And Jax needs someone who will take all his bullshit and accept that about him instead of trying to fix him or make him better. Funnybunny shippers how are we feeling?

JAX AND POMNI FRIENDSHIP IS REAL I LOOOVE BEING RIGHT

Look, I like Ragatha as much as the next guy but to me, she’s a work friend. You talk to her at work but forget about her on the way home. She’s nice. Kind and caring but it’s obviously a coping mechanism, she’s trying way too hard to pretend everything’s alright. When Pomni said that she can think for herself it made me realize how much Ragatha was basically projecting her feelings through Pomni and I think that’s why she’s visibly bothered by seeing Jax and Pomni getting along. She’s been trying so hard to connect to Pomni only to see Jax do it effortlessly. Her having a controlling mother explains SOOO much about her behavior. She’s so nuanced I love it.

kinda messed up that people are more forgiving of Jax for his own coping strategy and not Ragatha for hers... like they're all trapped here together, they all have problems, and sometimes people clash over opposite coping methods.

Its not about taking sides, Pomni wants to be on good terms with everyone. She even brought up Kinger's wife, hoping it would be an opportunity for everyone to know more about him.

can i just say i loved jax and pomni's dynamic since the pilot and i'm very glad they're getting closer now

The amount of emotion that Jax showed in this episode is crazy. So I wanted to showcase some of it

When his friend got brought up he looks so angry

He gets really annoyed with Ragatha and then follows it up with dumb insults and his regular expression

Also with the friend in the animation you can see him hesitant as he reaches for the door knob

During the scene where all the characters are talking about their backstory he is the only one who doesn’t mention anything and looks to be uncomfortable when he realizes everyone else is having fun and chatting about their lives. He also deflects with pointing out Kingers lack of a past to which Pomni reveals.

When they put him in the maid outfit he looks genuinely upset and embarrassed. He even gets the squiggly eyes

Jax seems to think that the other members of the digital circus don’t take his “bullying” seriously or hes doing it so he won’t get close to another person. Which doesn't seem to be working since he gets close with Pomni who starts to see through his act.

also some things to add is how horrified Jax looks to see he is without his tail. Which he did most likely have. Also the look he gets when trying to figure out how Cain turned him into a vegan. Like he's starting to realize Cain is more powerful then he let on

maybe im just biased because most of my music taste is this. but warrior cats animation community. you have GOT to start using more music made at LEAST 30-35 years ago. make more 80s pop maps make more new wave maps make more soft rock maps make more grunge maps make more yacht rock maps make more jazz fusion maps make more soul maps make more funk and disco maps make more of ANYTHING that isnt just music made after the year like 2005. i dont give a fuck if its going to get copyright claimed because its stricter with copyright and you shouldn’t either.
