A concept: CTU cuddle piles. The whole of GIGN (and Lion) dogpiling Doc to make him take a break. The GSG9 smothering Bandit’s bad mood in affection (and also conveniently holding him down if needed). The Spetsnaz boys lazing about, taking up as much space as humanly possible while also being connected to each other in some way. SAS piles formed by Smoke and Mute just kinda—flopping on top of Thatcher and/or Sledge.
A blessed concept, thank you very much for this ask 😍💕
Doc is too stubborn to realize he should have taken a break hours ago, so his team organizes an intervention. Monty just picks him up and drops him in the nearest couch, smothering him in a hug, while Rook cuddles almost on top of him, and Lion sits next to Monty, head on his shoulder and timidly touching Doc’s hand. Twitch lays on top of them all, and Doc plays with her hair, braiding it or unpinning the clips if she’s wearing it in an updo.
Bandit has been in a rotten mood for days, and the rest of the GSG9 is on the verge of snapping too. But they also know it’s close to the date of Cedrick’s incident anniversary, so when one of them sees Bandit sitting alone on his bed, they quickly message each other to come quickly to the dormitory. Bandit stood no chance of escaping when Jäger, IQ and Blitz all fall on him, holding him down and hugging him, no matter how much Bandit struggles to get away. But it feels nice, the warmth, and Blitz tells awful jokes, IQ hums melodies he can’t recognise but they’re so soothing, and Jäger keeps quiet unless directly prompted to talk, but his thumb keeps stroking circles over Bandit’s hand and he loves it.
Fitting four big Spetsnaz in a couch or bed is difficult, so it mostly happens on the floor. Kapkan sits on the floor, fiddling with some rope, testing which knots would work better for a trap; or maybe with a piece of wood and a knife, slowly making a form emerge from the wood. Then after a while Glaz sits next to him, with his head on the hunter’s lap, sketching something on a small notebook. Tachanka sits next to Kapkan, shoulder against shoulder, and he’s the one talking the most, he’s a big gossip, and when Kapkan leans against him Tachanka sometimes pets his hair and the hunter eventually forgets about his own project cause he just feels too relaxed to care. Fuze is also laying down, using Glaz’s side or stomach as a pillow, browsing stuff on his phone and sometimes answering to Tachanka. When Finka joins the team, she quickly gets included in the cuddle piles, although the first version she knew of those was during Outbreak, where they would all just sit and huddle together, in grim silence. Although the petting and rubbing each other’s backs or arms remained the same.
What’s more dangerous than a bored Smoke? Having him plotting with Mute how can they bother their other two SAS teammates. Help comes most unexpectedly from Clash, who overhears them and says to just hug Thatcher in public to make him yell at them. So the three of them go in search of the older man, and find him seated on a couch, reading peacefully. Smoke and Mute flop on top of him, trapping Thatcher and kinda smothering his yelling. The ruckus makes Sledge come running, in case he has to save his idiot younger teammates from certain death, but when he sees them hugging Thatcher, Sledge stops and smiles, cause it’s a cute sight. Or it would be if one of them wasn’t screaming bloody murder. The Clash pushes him towards the pile, except Sledge brings her down with him. With the added weight there’s a lot more complaints, and Smoke tells them to just be careful to not break the old man’s bones, for which he gets a kick from Thatcher. Eventually, they rearrange themselves for comfort. Thatcher gets to sit without being totally crushed, and it’s not like having Smoke and Clash on one side, and Mute and Sledge on the other, is so bad. Not that he plans on telling them that of course.

What happened with the White Masks?
As we all noticed, the storyline with the White Masks, which were introduced as the Big Bad Rainbow has to fight and the reason Rainbow got reactivated, is going nowhere. I don’t know if the devs don’t know what to do with it, or forgot it existed, or simply aren’t interested in exploring it more. So here I am, ready to analyse the clues we have of what happened with that plotline, and supplying it with my own theories. Let’s try to bridge the old plot with this new narrative shift!
Tumblr media
(Caveira seems to not get along with people in general, and Bandit has hair!?)
Let’s start at the beginning: the White Masks were presented to us as this big threat that required Rainbow’s intervention, and most of the situations (aka, the tutorial and sort of pseudo-campaign), are solo missions of some of the ops against the White Masks. It all culminates in the last scenario, Article 5, with that huge attack on Bartlett University (link to the video). Things look pretty damn serious, and Six herself says “we must remain vigilant in the face of this emerging threat, as the ultimate goal of our enemy is still unknown.”
Fast forward some time, and now Harry is in charge of Rainbow, since the old Six  left after accepting the position as US Secretary of State. Most curious that she would leave being in charge of an organization she reactivated, don’t you think? At the same time we learnt of this, we also got Harry’s board, with this interesting little note:
Tumblr media
Hmm, interesting. So they have seized some White Mask accounts, and old Six stepped down from Rainbow. This makes me think that during that time in between Article 5 and these events now, Rainbow was pretty damn successful in combating the terror attacks. They must have conducted some really good operations, dealing blow after blow to the terrorists, and now the White Masks are lying low, or at least what remains of them.
However, Harry isn’t convinced that the threat is over: “it is always that which we don’t know we don’t know that poses the greatest danger.” Perhaps he’s just being paranoid, perhaps he has some slivers of intel indicating the threat isn’t gone, or perhaps he’s just worried about another terrorist organization taking over and following in the footsteps of the White Masks. However, if there hasn’t been much activity lately, some people might start questioning why the hell is Rainbow is still active since they’re not needed at the moment, right? So Harry uses the accounts they seized to fund this new project of his: The Program.
Now, I see The Program as Harry’s attempt of reminding the nations and powers that be of why Rainbow is a good idea: we were successful in our task, our operators are the best of the best, keeping this program alive benefits everyone and we’ll be ready to act whenever it’s needed! And my theory is that, perhaps, he’s also using this competition thing as either a show of force/threat to keep potential enemies from acting… or as bait to lure them out!
Although, that depends of whether the Olympic-like competition aspect is just a gameplay thing or would also happen in lore. Cause I mean, if you were a terrorist and knew the most elite counter-terrorism operators from all over the world were all in one place, making a spectacle (probably military personnel to evaluate them or Rainbow as a whole) wouldn’t it be tempting to make a bold statement and try to wipe off of the map as many as you could?
In conclusion: the devs may have seemingly forgotten the main antagonist force they introduced at the start, but the new developments could potential make for very interesting scenarios (be it in canon or in fanfic, cause let’s face it, we’ll have to take the creative reigns too see that happen, most probably).
Thanks for coming to my (rambling) TedTalk! 😄

Monty will never give up tho😂 He's mastering that slightly disappointed "you are better than this and we both know it" look but sadly they're getting immune to it too and will exchange extremely rude gestures behind his back
Ok but... Montagne trying to get Doc and Lion to make up 💀

I don’t have tik tok and I saw this in a compilation. This is the best quality I could find of it on its own.

Ahhhhh thank you for the correction it makes so much more sense now!!!! I wrote this post before I had the chance to take a closer look at the new map but now I assume what's inside the stadium is mostly just training zone xD And the full view of the base looks really great, now they just gotta get themselves comfy in there until it feels like home sweet home😊 (and since a theater is mentioned, a movie night is a must!)
Archiving what I found on the official website so I don't have to go back there everytime I wanna reread it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looks like they have a new home now, which is neat because while Hereford is originally a SAS base, this one is something built just for the Rainbow team, and the location feels neutral enough. The fact they built it inside a stadium can be weird but I'm fine with it as far as it's not filled with actual crowd. (I know there was a crowd in the trailer but I'm considering them as... representation of fans watching pro leagues, not real people watching secret ops training like it's a casual sport match)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It has dormitories, lounges, cafeteria, gyms etc etc... it doesn't sound exactly new since everyone was already portraying the base as such in their works, but it's nice to have it officially confirmed.
On the side note I was wondering why Mira specifically said "Kali and I" will be using the R&D lab without mentioning tons of other tech nerds and my theory is they're more or less the members of R&D department (not that Mira would order them around, I think the dynamic would be more horizontal but she is the director) but Kali isn't, so it's more like "Kali and us"? I don't know if I'm making sense but I couldn't think of another explanation🤔
Questions aside, I decided I like this update even though it doesn't shed much light on individual characters, because it seems like a good place to start, supposing there's a lot more to come in year 5. Maybe Ubi is really planning to do things right. Just maybe.

As of now I think they'd probably work on different projects, maybe asking for each other's opinion occasionally but not so often, since it's hard to imagine Kali as a team player when she's not the boss. She doesn't want to give away her own tech and will only exchange some when it benefits her and Nighthaven, and if her stance is so, Mira would return the same attitude. Purely my opinion tho xD

How do you think Doc would react to the members of the GIGN getting injured? Your blog is amazing btw 😁
Ahh, thank you so much! 💜 Well, aside from the obvious “he wouldn’t be happy about it”, let’s delve in more depth into the answer, shall we?
It’s obvious that in genral the shtick for the GIGN team is protection: Doc heals, Rook gives extra armor, Montagne literally acts as a huge shield. And then we have Twitch, who doesn’t fall so neatly into this category (and isn’t even a three armor operator). So Doc always worried extra about her, since she doesn’t have the additional protection their other two teammates have, and she’s so terribly vulnerable to attacks while she’s focused on controlling her drone. Twitch getting injured will always worry him, of course, but it doesn’t necessarily surprise Doc.
Montagne seems nearly invulnerable with his shield, but watching him tank ahead or protect a teammate from bullets or explosions will always bring a jolt of sudden fear to Doc. Still, Montagne’s injury record is quite low, so Doc will trust that shield to protect his teammate’s life. For the most part, at least; there always will be a sliver of doubt and anxiety gnawing at him in the back of his mind.
Rook’s expertise in armor and holding a position should theoretically ensure his safety, at least to the extent one can be safe in a line of work as theirs. Therefore, it’s always a jarring surprise when Rook gets hurt, worry consuming Doc as soon as he gets the call for medical assistance. It doesn’t help that he’s the youngest of the GIGN and they all feel a little protective of him, even Twitch who’s barely older herself.
Whoever’s the injured party though, Doc will always act swiftly to help them. Although it’s true that if it’s one of his fellow GIGN teammates, he’ll spend a little more time around them even when the wound isn’t that serious, or he’ll stay by their side and hold their hands if it’s a serious injury. He’s a bit of a mother hen fussing over his teammates, and Rook and Twitch have jokingly called Doc “team dad” more than once. He can be a little overbearing sometimes, and he knows it annoys his teammates, but Doc can’t help worrying about them.
Now, have some bonus angst: what if one of the GIGN died during a mission? He would try his damn best to stabilize them, but the blood keeps pouring out no matter what, and Doc doesn’t even have all the necessary supplies here, and he knows what’s gonna happen but refuses to accept it. Doc would fight tooth and nail to keep them alive, and when he realises his teammate is dead, he would just go really quiet, wouldn’t even answer to anyone’s questions about what happened. He can’t really hear them. Doc’s lost patients before, but none of them were his friend. This is one of his nightmares coming true.Doc would blame himself, even if he knows it’s not true, part of him would still feel like he failed them because he wasn’t good enough at his job. Someone better remind him it’s not his job to perform miracles.
