There are some annoying Sandras in the replies on a few of my posts, so I feel compelled to say:

It’s not that I am angry that they had Dany go “mad.” I am not mad that Dany went mad. I stan Littlefinger. You think I wouldn’t have loved me a villainous queen riding a dragon to war??? You think I would have been perturbed by a dark character? 

Heck, I probably would have stanned her sooner, and harder. 

I am mad that it was unearned. Up until 8x03, Dany is the hero. The last shot of The Long Night is her, sword in hand, sinking down to cradle Jorah’s dead body. We see her grieving her fallen friend, a man who loved her, who betrayed, her, who she forgave. 

Tyrants don’t forgive. 

Tyrants don’t acquiesce to the wants of others, to the detriment of themselves, as Dany did when she went North with Jon, instead of taking King’s Landing there and then. 

Sure, there are moments of darkness in Dany prior, just as there are moments of darkness in every character in the series. If I’m expected to still root for Jon after he swaps Gilly’s baby for Mance’s and threatens her about it being burned, I am still expected to root for Dany even through those dark moments. 

You can even argue that her visions of Quaithe and the visions she had when she was sick after flying off on Drogon are hints of her madness– except… Quaithe was barely included in the show, and her sickness not at all, so there’s no groundwork there. 

And with the Melisandre is 6000 years old reveal, it’s not that much of a stress to think Quaithe is another red priestess with magical glamour projections. 

There’s no development of her madness. No descent into villainy. 

Daenerys was always written as a hero. She was always a girl, sold at 13, who survived unspeakable pains and abuses, and who rose up and took her agency and autonomy back, yes with fire and blood. And still, after all her abuses, found it in her to be merciful and compassionate woman.

To reduce her to madness in the space of an episode is insulting to everyone who has looked to her to help them move past anger, who has looked to her to understand how she manages to forgive. 

Daenerys is the prince that was promised. The savior who woke dragons from stone, the stallion who mounts the world who led her khalasar across the sea. If she were going to be the villain… she should have been the greatest and most terrifying one we’d had ever seen.

And yes, I still would have stanned for her then.

“It was the dragons we bowed to…”

The blood of a dragon might flow through his veins, but Jon has always been shown to be a true wolf, Ned Stark’s son in every way it matters, resembling him more than Ned’s biological children. In nature, wolves are extremely fierce, strong and resilient; however, their most unique quality is their loyalty to their pack and faithfulness to their mates, in fact, they do mate for life. Ned Stark had always been loyal to his wife, his family, his best friend, his sister, sometimes even at a great cost to himself; and that is the sort of loyalty Jon shows to Dany both prior and after the Battle of Winterfell.

Not only did he trust her with the truth of his parentage, but despite knowing what Robert Baratheon did to Dany’s family, Jon also revealed Gendry’s identity to her because he believes in her, he believes that she wouldn’t judge a son for his father’s sins and she doesn’t betray his trust, in fact, she exceeds his expectations. She legitimizes Gendry and names him the lord of the Storm’s End and never actually says the word bastard. Back on that ship, as they were sailing from the Eastwatch, Dany told Jon that she hoped she deserved his trust and loyalty and from the moment they met she keeps proving that she does.

Jon almost immediately realises how Tormund’s drunk ramblings might hurt Dany and quickly looks at with a worried expression, wondering whether she is alright, whether she doesn’t mind and whether he should shut his friend’s mouth, but he only sees her reassuring smile and smiles back, unaware of her inner turmoil.

“You are my queen. Nothing will change that.”

Later, when they are alone and Dany shares with him her worries and insecurities, he assures her that he doesn’t desire the throne, falling down on his knees in front of her, several times desperately repeating that she is his queen. Jon might not have confessed his love to Dany directly, but he has his own ways to express it. There are his actions, his vocal public support of her, his conversation with her, but most of all, there are three particular words which, whenever he says them, are love confessions on their own: “Dany” and “my queen”. He always articulates them with so much emotions, making them sound like endearments and caresses. A lot has been said about how significant it is that Jon is the only person calling her Dany, but his choice of calling her “my queen” is as much poignant and fitting. By calling her “my queen”, Jon expresses everything he feels for her in those two words. On one hand, it means she is the one he chose to follow, his love, life and loyalty and everything he is and has belongs to her. And on the other, he is also staking his claim on her, that she belongs to him as much as he belongs to her. Life taught Jon never to want anything, but now he wants her and is prepared to hold on to her no matter the costs.

“The Northern forces will honor their promises and their allegiance to the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. What you command, we will obey.”

This is such a wonderful moment between them because despite their argument the previous evening, their partnership is as strong as ever. Dany listens to Jon’s advice and you can clearly see how much he appreciates it and he doesn’t hesitate to go against his sisters, the very family he wants to share the truth with, and pledge his forces to her. He basically renews his vows of loyalty to Dany and calls her the “Queen of Seven Kingdoms” - in a way, he indirectly and publicly renounces his claim to the Iron throne - and tells her that she commands and he follows. Especially, poignant is the dark, silent threat in his voice when he tells Arya and Sansa the Northern forces will fight with Daenerys. He is imposing his authority on them, warning them not to question him. He has never talked to his family this family. It’s both frightening and thrilling to watch him this way. And you can see how much Jon’s loyalty and support means to Dany.

I love Mad Dany.

Mad Dany who legitimised the Usurper’s bastard, gave him his legitimate name (Gendry Rivers though LMFAO) and ancestral seat because of his role in the war against the Others.

Mad Dany who fought for the North at great personal loss and still didn’t win their gratitude or trust (yes I’m looking at you Sansa and Arya) and if not for Jon their military support either.

Mad Dany who swerved at the last minute from burning Euron’s fleet after he brutally killed her child, and was able to check her anger because she knew it would be a suicide mission and would end up killing herself and Drogon in the process

Mad Dany who watched her best friend Missandei get mercilessly beheaded by the real mad Queen and her zombie stooge and still walked away.

Mad Dany who is still listening to Tyrion and Varys’ useless advice even though we all gave up seasons ago.

Mad Dany who’s still letting these entitled men push her around and doubt her claim to the throne because she doesn’t have a cock.

Mad Dany who has emotions such as anger and grief because she’s… a human being???

I love Mad Dany, I hope she stays.

Now You See Me (Sneak Peek)

Hi everyone.  I know, I know.  I haven’t been writing as much these days.  However, I’m happy to say that I’m just about done with the next update for my Dom Jon fic “Now You See Me” and plan to post it tomorrow morning.  It’s 8000+ words!  In the meantime, here’s a preview of chapter 13 - Dany’s mom comes to visit!

The remainder of the car ride home was almost unbearable as Rhaella continued grilling Jon non-stop.  He handled it better than expected, however, answering all of her questions with ease despite how nosy she was being. Dany breathed a huge sigh of relief when they finally pulled up to their townhouse. She hopped out of the car immediately, her mother close behind, while Jon hung back to take care of the luggage.

Rhaella looked impressed as she walked through the house.  “This is nice, Daenerys.  I love the hardwood floors and vaulted ceilings.  You and Jon bought this together?”

“No, we’re renting,” she responded.

Her mother tutted reprovingly.  “Well, thank God!  It’s bad enough you’re shacking up with the man but tangling your finances up in a long-term loan as well…that would be a disaster!”

Dany had heard enough.  She looked back to make sure Jon was out of earshot before unleashing on her. “Look, Mom, I’m happy you’ve come to visit, but I won’t have you disrespecting Jon, all right?  He hasn’t done anything wrong!”

“Hmmph!  Well, Jorah said…”

“I don’t care what Jorah said!  He’s lying!” she hissed angrily.

A hush quickly fell between them at the sound of Jon lugging suitcases up the stairs.  “Everything all right?” he asked once he’d made it up to the top.

“Just fine,” Dany said briskly, giving her mother a warning look. 

Once Jon placed the luggage in the spare bedroom, they continued walking around a bit to give Rhaella a tour of the house. 

“I assume this is the master bedroom?” she asked, wandering into Jon and Dany’s room. 

“Yes, it…” Dany began, the words dying in her throat as a look of horror swept across her face.  A leather-strapped swing hung suspended from one corner of the ceiling, clear evidence of her and Jon’s penchant for kinky, bondage sex, and she was instantly mortified.  She looked at Jon in disbelief as she’d specifically told him to disassemble the sex swing before they went to the airport.  He met her gaze apologetically, a blush creeping up his cheeks as he mouthed the words, I’m sorry.

This is clearly post-reveal. Jon wouldn’t be so confident walking up to the dragons like this. So at this point, Dany already knows Jon is her nephew and has a stronger claim to the throne than she does. But what do we see? The two of them calmly walking towards the dragons as if this is routine… as if they’ve ridden them together before. We also see the two of them TOGETHER.

So much for the nonsensical anti theory that Dany would go mad and turn on Jon upon finding out his true parentage. So much for the theory that Jon would take control of the dragons and have them burn/eat Dany. So much for the theory that Dany would be so consumed with the throne she would turn away from the fight with the Night King ☕️
