the tiefling closes their eyes for a moment, back pressing against the rocky walls of the underdark and takes a deep breath. they hold it for a moment, allowing the unique air of the underground to rest in their lungs before slowly exhaling and allowing their body to relax with it. it had been a very long day traipsing through the underdark, torn between the absolute amazement of the new environment and exhausted by its dangers. it was nice to finally have a moment away from the others and set aside the metaphorical mask that they always wore to just breathe and not worry about slips. not worry about whether they came across as too selfish or accidentally let slip too much of their own past while listening to one of the others discuss their pain.
a sudden sound reaches their ear,Ā the slightest scuff of boot sole against rock, and causes their eyes to snap open. mismatched eyes look up as the metaphorical mask slips back into place with ease, seeking the person who tread upon their private moment. "i may not be the most educated or smartest of people," they said, voice quiet but tone kind. "-but i'm fairly certain that it's not exactly polite to attempt to sneak up on someone."
