Currently losing my mind a little bit thinking about my stupid fucking vampire twins. They’re immortal. They’re stuck forever young. They have all the time in the world to grow up and get wiser but they never do because they won’t let themselves heal. Sure, their bodies heal supernaturally quickly. They’re nearly unkillable. But goddamn if they don’t try to do it to themselves.

Arabella is ruthless because it’s the only way create certainty. And Bellatrix follows along because it’s all they’ve ever known, and it’s familiar. And the kindness of others is like fire to them: it’s warm, and it’s terrifying, and at least with Arabella they know exactly what to expect of the cold. No flickering light, no bursts of heat, just ice as solid as ever.

They’re beautiful, and they’ve got all the attractiveness of a bloated corpse. They’re pretty in the way a serrated knife is. They melt themselves down into weapons first and people second, so that the material of them can’t be seen as anything but dangerous and sharp and painful, even to themselves. There is no other choice, is there, when others came to prey on them first? Maybe they want to break the cycle but they won’t actually look at what it is they need to break.

They play the part of each other, this amalgamated Bella that doesn’t really exist but needs to exist if they are to keep going. They can never be honest. They want so desperately to be, though. It would be easier, if they could stand side by side instead of dividing up their duties and pretending to be just one person to make sneaking by the littlest bit easier. They share burdens and it is not a burden halved. It is doubled. They are two separate people in theory, but neither of them know where one ends and the other begins.

Arabella would kill Bellatrix a hundred times over if it meant their own happiness—but it never will. Bellatrix would die for Arabella—but they’ll never need to. To kill each other would be to kill themselves. They know it, and they don’t want it to be true, but they don’t know how to undo it.

They’ve caught a hundred other people in their web, trying to give sacrifice to a god who might not even exist to grant their prayers. A god they don’t know is dead, who can’t reshape the world no matter how much they want it. Arabella wants to become god themselves. Bellatrix just wants them to be happy.

Both of those things are impossible.

It’s always touching when my older art circulates around some fandom or other again. Like I can look back and go “damn. I could definitely do better.” But that doesn’t change the fact that others love what I made years ago. It could be better but it doesn’t have to be, and just because it could be better doesn’t mean it isn’t Good Already.
