To my fellow white women:

I said it about Lemonade, and now I’m here to say it about A Seat at the Table: this album is not about us or for us. Feel free to enjoy it because Solange is a stone cold fox but this album is for, by, and about black women and black womanhood. It’s okay for there to be music (and other media) that isn’t created with us mind or with us as the intended audience. Please, please, please do not appropriate the songs by creating covers for YouTube or dance routines for your recitals or using it in any way that would amplify your whiteness and white voice over our black sisters who deserve to be lifted up and celebrated. A Seat at the Table isn’t for us, as white women. It’s not about our hair, our struggles, or our lives. Don’t try and make it yours.
