Oh that's an interesting take on the hairpin. Everyone just makes the dots between Yona and Soowon (since he gave it to her) and think it will make him confess when it comes back or something. But I think it makes sense what you say. It was an obstacle for Hak for so long. Yona gave it away without a second thought. It was just a thing at this point. Yet we have Hak and Jaeha having a talk about it after Hak confessed (we love to see Hak opening up to his bff) where Hak opens up "I think it's good she gave it away" "I am the only one still living in the past". Hak has been wondering why Soowon gave it to her, with a smile at that for so long. Not Yona. So it'd make kinda sense if it returns for Hak to officially let go too. Hak already made huge steps and I'm very proud of him.

Me and the hairpin have peak ETL relationship. I hated it so much for years. Then I read a post saying it is the symbol of understanding Soo won, and was struck by an epiphany. Everything shifted and clicked in the right way, all the scenes with it had their new meanings.

I realized the reason it refuses to go away, despite being lost in woods and battlefields, was because it represents the hope of and for Soo won. Every time someone is doubting Soo won, and on the edge of giving up on him, the hairpin shows up to them.

Yona held on it for the first 100 chapters, when she was so confused trying to reconcile the betrayal. Then, at chapter 110, we reach the conclusion of Yona’s inner turmoil about Soo won.

She decides that their history was not a lie. She accepts what happened, while not denying it is the same Soo won she loved who did it. And she is willing to confront and understand him.

Then the hairpin is lost during the battle in Sei’s arc. Soo won found it and returned it to her. This is poetic, it as if he is somehow telling her not to give up on him. But Yona did not need it at this point, because she already sorted her feelings, reached her understanding of Soo won, and decided on facing him.

So, next time she has it, she gives it away, and to who? To Ogi. The one who was just losing his hopes on Soo won. Saying that he cannot find it in himself to excuse his actions, no matter how he respects him as a ruler, or how he loved him when he was a child.

The hairpin is given to this Ogi, as a sign to not give up.

Next time, Lili asks for it.

This is truly fitting, as she is the one who is activily trying to understand Soo won, without prejudices or predispositions.

These scenes are all great. But the one that makes me so emotional is the one with Hak. Every time, someone will decide on keeping the hairpin, like Yona, or it reaches them, like Ogi and Lili. But that scene with Hak in ch 125 was different.

He saw the hairpin, and it brought the worst memories. Hak’s inner monologue was filled with so much pain and anger.

He was so hurt about how Soo won completely disregarded Yona, how he betrayed her so painfully by smiling at her and giving her the hairpin only to destroy her life that night.

And amid this rage, this pain, you think that is it for him. That he is never going to forgive or understand Soo won. And you do not blame him. It was too much, too awful.

Then the hairpin falls off the cliff.

And he jumps to save it.

This says so much about Hak’s feelings for Soo won. He jumped off a cliff, amid his rage and hurt, to save the hairpin, imagine what he would do for Soo won himself?

That scene was so emotional. No matter what Hak tells himself, that he will never forgive Soo won, will even be the one to kill him, in truth he will never be able to see him hurt. He will always love him deeply.

Okay so like not to get too-fandomy here (but actually it’s my blog; I’ll do what I want) but re: the Yona of the Dawn update—

There is absolutely NO WAY Hak is dead. I reFUSE to believe that. There are so many things in his story line that need to be resolved still.

What happened to his parents? Why is he so freaking OP? Him and Yona need to get their sh*t together. He needs resolution w Soowon. Does he have anything to do w the “sword and shield” from the prophecy?

IF Hak is dead (he isn’t) then I feel like that would change the entire story, at least for me. And Kusanagi-sensei has written and developed such a beautiful story so far. I trust them and would continue reading no matter what (it’s not my story, after all. They can do what they want) but idk seems like a big risk.

Like despite whatever opinions you have on Hak, you can’t deny that he’s crucial to Yona’s development. Maybe he needs to like not be in the story for a little (tragic, truly) so she can figure out how to stand on her own a little better and kind of reconcile with Soowon (not that I think there should be a chance for any real reconciliation between them, but that’s a different post). But like ? they balance each other out and support each other in a way that the dragons (bless their hearts) cannot.

I agree with you! I’m loving this anime! 

Okay, well, I started Fena: Pirate Princess without many expectations because I hardly saw anyone commenting on it and ... someone explains to me why THIS ANIME IS NOT BEING THE MOST COMMENTED AND SEEN OF THE SEASON ??????? IT'S TOO GOOD FOR I'M GOING SO MISSING !!!!!!

Without going into spoilers and commenting on basic things to whet your appetite: in terms of plot, setting and BEAUTIFUL ANIMATION it is one of the best things I have seen lately. Yes, ok, possibly it does not have the most striking or innovative premise but OH GOD, they take everything so well !!!!!!!

It is that typical anime that ye delivers, keeps you hooked and makes you love all of its characters. A setting with pirates, historical...

Our protagonist: Fena, safe and strong. Yukimaru ?????? possibly fall in love with him every time he appears in a chapter. He's that serious guy, but his ears blush when he's embarrassed about something (especially if Fena is involved)

The entire cast of main characters is wonderful and they join that trope of found family that many of us like ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Also, CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE PIRATES ????? How many ANIMES have you seen where all the cast of pirates are women ???? We LOVE see THIS EMPOWERMENT

• • Pd: I leave without mentioning the mystery that is in the subplot, the "mysterious" past of the protagonist, because it is worthy that each one discovers it for theirself. If YOU love adventures, romance, strong characters and a good plot or you want to see something like Akatsuki no Yona ... This is your anime

I'm sick of Hak's haters.

First thing: he is helping the Earth Tribe for free.

He had to lie about the senjuso in order to protect Yun and, indirectly, even Yona. It's not even for Soo-won's sake that he did it.

Yun and Hak are on a mission. They were granted the chance to leave the castle on condition that they bring back the medical herb and they can't explain it because the King's illness is a secret which can cost everyone's life.

They can't do whatever they want like before because Yona made a deal with Keyshuk and I think he could take the chance to imprison Hak again if they don't accomplish the task, even though the situation changed and they were involved in the chaos.

Hak would never deny help to Guntae or whoever, unless in doing so he could end up causing harm to someone dear to him or to the country itself.

He's just doing his best (like he did for the past 213 chapter tbh) and he's doing even more than required.

Just look at all those wounds.

Look at how he immediately lies and takes the blame to help Yun.

Look at him going back to battle even after the soldier's criticisms.

Like Raan said, he is the backbone of the country and nothing will ever make me change my mind on this.
