Dahua vs. Hikvision: How to Make a Good Choice?
IP cameras appeared as an innovation in the security business, offering excellent features to clients who need high-resolution footage for lower prices.
Although initially, these type of CCTV cameras were of low-range, with fixed lenses and very limited options, companies like Dahua and Hikvision launched CCTV camera models with the features of high-range products, such as remote focus, powerful zooming, and high-quality audio, all of it for prices that were below the usual range.
Hikvision appeared in the surveillance market in 2001 and its success soon followed, becoming the leader of security technologies.
On the other hand, Dahua Technology, also founded in 2001, holds the second largest market share.
Both companies have dedicated their work to satisfy the requirements of those clients who look for quality solutions for the lowest price possible, that is, the most cost-effective options of the market.
Today, Dahua and Hikvision are practically must-be choices when it comes to a list of surveillance equipment providers. By offering similar products, these two companies frequently are hard to differentiate, so that is necessary to talk about the small but existing differences between them in order to help consumers make an informed purchase decision.
Tumblr media
Understanding the main features of IP cameras
If you need to make a decision regarding which camera should you purchase, it is essential that you have a general idea of what do their features mean.
Therefore, before comparing both brands, we think it is important to explain at least the main characteristics of an IP camera.
1. The range of Vision/Lens
This is a measure of the angle that can be covered by the IP camera. There are varifocal lenses that have a range of vision that can be lowered or increased. On the other hand, there are fixed lenses that can only offer an invariable angle.
Usually, a 2.8 mm lens opens 90-105°, making the range of vision go from wall to wall and a good quality image up to a linear distance of about 5-8 meters (focal length). The higher the number in millimeters, the narrower the angle of coverage is, but the longer the distance is covered.
Both brands of Hikvision and Dahua offer a variety of fixed and vari-focal lenses with their respective focal lengths, ranging from 2.8mm to even a few hundred millimeters.
2. IP Camera Zoom
First of all, there are two types of zooms: digital zoom and optical zoom.
Security IP cameras with a resolution of 1080p (and higher) include a digital zoom. This feature is more efficient as the resolution goes higher, because with lower resolution cameras, the image gets pixilated when trying to zoom in for details.
The motorized vari-focal zoom function is highly useful. It allows users to adjust the coverage distance and the angle of coverage after installation. This Dahua 4MP IP Camera package includes the motorized vari-focal function.
3. Size of the Sensor in the IP Cameras
This feature has a big influence on the capability of the camera to record quality images even in low-light conditions. Generally speaking, the larger sensor in the IP camera will have a better performance in dark scenes.
With a small sensor, pixels get crammed resulting in a lot of noise and consequently, a poorly detailed image. On the other hand, larger sensor size will allow more pixels to be part of the image, reducing the noise and offering more sharpness.
Both brands of Dahua and Hikvision support a good level of minimum illumination but Dahua has an advantage in some models thanks to the superior sensors they use, which allows a better night view with Starvis® and Darkfighter® technology.
4. Bitrate of the IP Cameras
The bitrate of a security camera describes the number of bits moving from one point to another in a network per second. Bitrate is measured in kilobits per second (Kbps) or megabits per second (Mbps).
For IP cameras, this number of bits include video and audio. For higher capacity cameras, bitrate is often measured in Mbps.
The maximum bitrate in Hikvision IP Camera can go to 12Mbps. Dahua’s maximum bitrate usually reaches 10 Mbps, although it is said that a bit rate of 10 Mbps is quite good for the usual needs.
5. Motion/Face detection
This is a desirable feature in surveillance systems. Motion detection is possible thanks to the comparison of consecutive images that the camera “understands” as the occurrence of movement in the scene under surveillance.
When IP cameras include the motion/face detection feature, there is a significant saving of storage space. Time is also saved since it makes the review of recorded images faster since it is possible to go directly to the scenes where movement occurs.
Facial detection in IP cameras is mostly used by companies, offices, buildings, houses and organizations that need to record the physical details of the people moving about. The inclusion of this feature in IP cameras can be quite helpful nowadays.
All the models from Hikvision and Dahua offer motion detection functions; while quite a large number of models from Hikvision and Dahua offer the function of face detection.
6. Simultaneous video streams
Both Dahua and Hikvision IP cameras come with the feature of “multiple video stream” which allows the output of more than one video streams at the same time. Different settings can be defined for each output regarding resolution, bitrate and other aspects.
The possibility of sending different and independent streams is a great advantage. Most of the Hikvision IP Cameras have dual streams (one main and one sub); while most Dahua IP Cameras have triple video streams (one main and two subs).
7. Missing Object Detection, Audio Detection, Scene Change Detections, etc
These are the smart functions included in most of the IP cameras of Hikvision and Dahua. They can be particularly helpful when there are such specific needs, such as you need to monitor a specific object like an expensive item in a store. If the camera detects the object is missing from the scene, it starts to record immediately and sends an alert to the system manager.
The possibility of detecting noises with your IP camera can be useful when you need the most detail about the area under surveillance. In some situations, it can be helpful to detect car alarms, objects being hit or broken, people screaming, etc. Those IP Cameras include audio detection that immediately sends an alert via email or smartphone to the security manager so that an action is taken. The camera should also be directed towards the place where the noise comes from.
Both Dahua and Hikvision have certain models that include these features.
8. Maximum Resolution
Camera resolution indicates how detailed the image will be. The higher the resolution, the better, and of course, the cost will be higher. Resolution is given by the measure of the images recorded by the camera. This measure is made in pixels (width x height) and it is also referenced as the multiplication of both numbers followed by the letters “MP”. Most of the IP camera models for both companies range between 1MP and 4K (8MP) but there are some models with even higher resolutions.
Which brand should you buy, Hikvision or Dahua?
This is a very particular decision. Since most of Dahua and Hikvision products are similar, the key is to define your specific needs and make a review of the functions each model offer in that regard.
As for the price, both brands offer very similar prices in most of their product variety, which is very competitive when compared to the rest of brands in the market. The good news is, whatever your choice is, you can be sure of purchasing high-tech equipment from one of the two leading brands of surveillance systems in the world.

Server Rack: Server Racks and Their Sizes
Source: Server Racks and Their Sizes
Related Article: Buy Server Rack in Singapore: What You Need to Know
Tumblr media
As we know, server racks come in various types and dimensions, depending on the specific needs and the sizing of the equipment that will be mounted on it. In a particular way, the height of the rack needs to be considered, since it indicates the amount of spaces that can be occupied by the equipment.
Server racks have their own measuring unit, which is associated with the height of the device that will be installed. While the width can only have two sizes (19 or 23 inches, the first one being the standard and most common), the height increases by a rate of of 1.75 inches, and this quantity is called rack unit or just “U”. That said, it is possible to understand the notation used for server rack sizing: 1U, 2U, 3U and so on.
For example, a 9U rack has a width of 19 inches (for a standard rack) and a height of 15.75 inches (1.75 multiplied by 9). The size of the rack will depend on several factors, starting with the size and type of business activity of the company, which will determine the real needs regarding the number of devices for networking, communications, or any other applications.
Evidently, the needs of a small retail shop will be different from those of a telecommunications company or a small office.
Categorization of Server Racks
Server racks can be classified according to many features but the most usual is to categorize them by size.  We have grouped them in three general categories, considering the area of application.
1U to 12U Server Racks
These rack sizes have a common usage on IT applications. They can vary depending on each specific case, where space, traffic and other conditions must be taken into account.
Smaller racks, usually ranging from 1U up to 6U are used for low height installations that count with some kind of anchoring for wall mounting or for that equipment that can be placed on the ground. These are often found in telecommunication applications as well as monitoring equipment.
It is important to consider their weight capacity due to the fact that some devices (such as UPS’s, among others) might need a strong structure in order to be securely held.
18U, 22U, and 32U server racks
These are the most common among the medium size racks. Telecommunication devices, servers and network equipment can be stored in these structures, allowing visibility, good ventilation and many possibilities of arrangement.
This is a good option for small equipment, which provides security as well as a higher capacity in terms of weight. Among the advantages of this group of server racks, we can mention the following:
Easy and fast assembly
Great mobility (most of them are provided with wheels so that it is possible to move them from one place to other)
Versatility when mounting and arranging the equipment thanks to the adjustable mounting option, with removable doors
Security and safe functioning, with a structure that allows ventilation for the system
“Higher-U” Server racks: 42U, 45U and 48U
Most racks are 42U, (about two meters high) which are used for professional audio and video equipment, and of course, for housing the biggest servers and IT networks. This size allows an efficient arrangement of all the components as well as an important saving of space, a very significant feature when it comes to such an amount of devices.
Industrial energy and automation hardware are also two of the main uses of large-size racks; the range of 45U-48U is the most common in this type of companies. These racks are floor-standing structures and sometimes they can be customized in order to reach up to 58U for special cases in which there are a huge number of devices, for example, high-density data centers.
In addition, this category of server racks allows the possibility for a future expansion of the equipment, a great benefit for fast-growing businesses. They are also suitable if extra space is needed for cabling and other connections.
Compatibility with additional accessories is also an important feature. These racks are designed in a way that facilitates the maintenance of the equipment, an efficient airflow and allow a simple and fast installation.
Summary of the Sizes of Popular Server Racks
We have summarized the sizes of the most popular server racks in Singapore in the table below, so you can easily refer to it to find the most suitable server rack for your office or home:

Server Rack: What to Consider Before Purchase
Source: Buy Server Rack in Singapore: What You Need to Know
Considering to buy a server rack for your office or your home? Find out all the information required before buying the server rack: type of server racks, uses of server racks, features of server racks.
The NVR or DVR of CCTV Cameras, and some electronic equipment modules such as data processing centers, professional audio/video equipment, those used in telecommunications, and a wide variety of applications, require a lot of space due to the number of parts and pieces that they comprise.
Server racks offer an excellent solution when it comes to finding an optimal distribution, space saving, and efficiency.
What is a Server Rack?
Tumblr media
A server rack is a structure consisting of vertical columns and horizontal shelves that form a frame. This frame works as a special support for different kinds of computerized systems with special requirements.
More specifically, the most commonly used 19-inch server racks are standardized structures that provide an organized array of all the parts needed for the functioning of the equipment. A 19-inch rack owes its name to the measure of the rack’s width, which is defined so that the modules can fit perfectly, making it easier to mount and arrange them. All dimensions of a 19-inch server rack are normalized so that they are compatible with any equipment, regardless of the maker.
Types of Server Racks
There are several types of server racks, depending on the presence or absence of doors, rails, front and back doors, and side panels, among other features.
Open frame racks have two or four rails for installing equipment. They have no doors or side structure. They are also known as four-post racks and their use is very popular for data centers, thanks to their configuration which allows a better arrangement of cabling and power sources.
A two-post rack only has two vertical columns made of metal, usually aluminum, which can be attached to the floor or to the roof. This kind of rack is mostly used in places where earthquake protection is needed.
Server cabinets, on the other side, include keys, rails, doors and protective panels on the side. Sometimes these protective panels are isolated with foam layers for specific uses.
Also, there are racks with wheels, for those cases where mobility is needed. Some racks that can be mounted in walls, a good solution for locations with limited space.
Main Features of Server Racks
Tumblr media
Server racks are provided with edges on each one of the sides so that it is possible to fasten the module with the use of screws for a safe installation. This is very important because the equipment installed on racks is often expensive and its safety must be handled with care.
As a standardized structure, the height of a server rack is measured in units identified with the letter “U” which is equivalent to 1.75 inches (44.45 mm). Accordingly, there are frames that range from 4U up to 42U, depending on the required size. This represents an advantage regarding adaptability since requirements can be very different from one case to another.
The depth of a server rack is also an important measure. Though it is not a standardized measure, it usually ranges from 600 to 1200 mm for the deepest hardware pieces. It is necessary to have in mind that this number needs to be greater than the equipment’s depth in order to leave enough space for cabling and connections. In addition, when calculating the space and choosing the right server rack, it is important to include the necessary space between the hardware and the cabinet walls, if any, for good ventilation. This is necessary for the good functioning of the equipment, which can overheat easily.
Uses of Server Racks
Server racks are mostly known for their use in data processing centers, more specifically for housing servers, commuters, routers, NVR/DVR of CCTV Cameras, switches, and other network devices.
These frames are mainly used in companies that need a centralized cabling and places with space limitations. Their structure is able to support monitors, keyboards and many types of systems and devices of different sizes and shapes. This modular solution is the most appropriate for easy addition or substitution of components. The rack allows an easy process of expansion, change of accessories, repairs or any other kind of intervention, even without the need of shutting down the system in order to do that.
This means a huge benefit in terms of productivity since there would be no downtime whenever a change is needed, which represents a great saving for the company. Server racks are the perfect solution for companies and enterprises that need a continuous workflow.

HiLook: The Ideal Entry-Level Video Surveillance from Hikvision
What is HiLook and why HiLook?
Hilook of Hikvision
Are you one of the many who have recently started scouring the video surveillance market, trying to find the perfect CCTV camera that fits all your requirements at an affordable cost? You need to look no further than the Hikvision’s HiLook range of surveillance products: IP Cameras, Turbo HD CCTV cameras, NVR, Turbo-DVR, etc. Why, you may ask? The answer is pretty simple and straightforward: Hikvision has built the most entry-level products in the new HiLook category keeping in mind the needs and requirements of people who are just starting off in the world of video surveillance.
In this article, we will analyze the numerous reasons why the HiLook range of products might be in perfect sync with your surveillance needs.
Top-Notch Performance of HiLook
The first thing that any individual looks for in a surveillance CCTV camera is the performance. Is the video clear enough? Can it capture faces without blurring? Is the streaming quality good? Would there be any apparent lag? What about the quality of low-light images? The questions that you have, as a new customer, are aplenty. And the Hikvision’s HiLook answers all of those more than satisfactorily. The video quality in the HiLook IP Cameras is as clear as day even in low light. You would barely experience any lag in the streaming, so much so that every movement of the object will be captured and transmitted with the utmost efficiency. Faces, aye! It will be like you are actually standing face-to-face with the person in question; no visible pixels or squares and negligible blurring.
Unnervingly Easy to Assemble and Use
Remember that the product is manufactured to suit the requirements of novices in the field. Thus, you can assemble and install the camera without even needing to refer to the manual provided. But still, if you find it a daunting task, or you are simply bored to DIY, just ring up for a professional and a qualified technician will be dispatched at your doorstep. Hikvision understands that you are busy enough with your own personal and work-related problems to care about security enough to go through the manual. So, the technician will explain the basic workings of the equipment post installation so that you, or your surveillance man, can directly delve into securing your house and/or business space.
Reliability is What HiLook Stands for
Oh yes! You won’t find a more reliable manufacturer than Hikvision. Their products do exactly as stated, without deviating from even a single specification. Technology is as steadfast or fickle as its creator, and Hikvision is the most reliable company in video surveillance out there. No wonder that it has got the highest number of sales the world over. And their most recent offering, HiLook, is no exception to their stupendously positive profile.
(And our customer service to support the Hikvision, HiLook and Dahua is very responsive, to say the least! When/If you face any issue with the product, our customer care executive will always be available to help you out.)
Affordability Matters
If you think that Hikvision is the best video surveillance manufacturer out there just because it produces the highest quality products at unimaginably steep prices, think again! Their products are always tagged with a reasonable price. However, did you know that the HiLook is an exception to the rule? Not in terms of quality, but in case of the pricing. Let us quote it again – HiLook products have been manufactured to cater to the needs of amateurs in the field. Thus, you can expect a video surveillance camera from HiLook with unparalleled features at a highly affordable price. You won’t even need to think twice before placing an order, since it is bound to fit in your budget and all your expectations will definitely be exceeded.
Coming to the Specifications
The Hikvision’s HiLook offers two types of products – IP Solution and Turbo-HD Analog Solution. Let us take a brief look at both.
HiLook THC-B240
HiLook IP Solution: As you might know, IP cameras are all the rage right now. If you were to visit a brick-and-mortar surveillance shop, the salesman is bound to make a case for the IP market before delving into the features of the specific products. Understandably, IP networking has revolutionized the world of CCTV surveillance. With Hikvision’s HiLook, you get the technologically advanced H.265+ codec, which renders the best bandwidth along with the utmost efficiency in the storage of data. A 4-MP imaging with WDR to get the perfect video quality even in the lowest-lighting conditions is an added benefit.
HiLook Turbo-HD Analog Solution: If you think that the analog surveillance camera had already become extinct, you can never be more wrong. Hikvision may just have brought the analog back into action with its Turbo-HD or the HD-TVI technology (same goes to Dahua, such as the Dahua’s HDCVI technology with POC capability) increasing the maximum bandwidth and data efficiency by a huge number. HiLook’s HD-TVI cameras will render the high-quality video, similar to what Hikvision and Dahua can do.
Finally, we come to HiLook’s software offering – the iVMS-4200. The iVMS 4200 software is a blue-chip product that offers not just the regular transmission of video, but also file backup, alarm management, and a host of other features. Additionally, it will be compatible with any and every HiLook product that may consider purchasing in the future. Thus, you don’t need to hesitate before purchasing, say the most basic offering of HiLook, since you can readily upgrade it without changing the transmission software.
Interested in more about Hikvision’s HiLook Products? You can check here for the full range of the HiLook product. Feel free to contact us for more information.

PoC (Power over Coax) Explained & the Application on CCTV Cameras
Dahua Power Over Coax HDCVI Camera
Keywords: PoC, Power Over Coax
CCTV cameras are slowly becoming a basic necessity among corporate entities and homeowners alike. All one needs to do is select a CCTV camera online – Hikvision and Dahua being the leading brands in the market – and let the installation team do the necessary work of setting it up. However, did you know that this very installation work is oftentimes frustrating (extended reader: How much does it cost to install CCTV Camera in Singapore), not only for the workers but also for the camera owner? You might find yourself asking the installation team about the deadline every now and then.
And then there is the uncountable number of wires coming out of the camera. Even if major lengths of the wires have been covered and properly insulated, the ones emerging from the camera itself don’t exactly add to the decor of your apartment or commercial space. In IP cameras Singapore, there are at least two wires attached to the instrument – the video cable and the power source wire. After a few years when the insulation wears out, you might find the power cable visibly dangling from the wall.
So, how could these basic issues regarding the wiring of CCTVs be overcome? With the revolutionary PoC technology, of course! Power over Coax (PoC) is a relatively new concept that allows the camera to draw power from the coaxial video cable itself. Thus, there is no need to install an additional power wire. The single video cable will be enough!
How does PoC Work?
The concept is pretty easy to understand. You might have heard about the PoE (Power over Ethernet). The cable from which the camera downloads data can be used as a power source in case of PoE. PoC boasts of a similar concept, but it has simplified the technology a lot more. With PoC, the twist-fit BNC connector is used to draw power, which implies that only a single wire needs to be connected to the camera. How cool is that! You no longer need to face the camera just to find a number of wires emerging from it. Even the installation guy will thank you for reducing their trouble!
Power over coax (POC) explained
Benefits of PoC in CCTV Camera (Dahua HDCVI & Hikvision Turbo HD Camera)
Did you think that you will need to buy an entirely new camera to experience the benefits of PoC? Not at all! You can easily upgrade to the PoC technology in many Hikvision and Dahua cameras if you have the standard RG59 coaxial cable. There are even a few ‘shotgun’ cables available in the market which run RG59 video and power wires side by side. Simply remove the power wire for the RG59 cable to be compatible with PoC.
With the new Hikvision Turbo HD Cameras and Dahua HDCVI cameras offering this revolutionary technology, you will not only save time and money on the installation but also keep the beauty of your apartment’s interiors intact. Additionally, with PoC, you can also increase the length of the cable to a whopping 400 meters. Thus, you can comfortably carry out the surveillance from your neighbor’s house if you want!
The Dahua HDCVI and Hikvision Turbo HD are only the first in the range of numerous PoC cameras yet to come. We believe that the technology will go on improving with time, but the upgrades will always be at hand. So you don’t need to wait for the upgrades. Just purchase one of the newer models of Hikvision and Dahua, and you would be good to go.
Needless to say, PoC won’t necessarily be compatible with the older versions of the DVRs. The DVRs need to be PoC compatible in the first place. Thus, if yours isn’t, then you would need to purchase a new one. Furthermore, PoC compatibility requires that you connect the wire directly to the DVR. Wireless connections won’t work. Even the earlier versions that connect directly to the monitor won’t be compatible with PoC. If you wish to switch to this type of CCTV Cameras, then make sure that you have a direct wired connection with the DVR.
The points mentioned in the previous paragraph are the only exceptions for PoC, wherein you need to upgrade the DVR itself. Apart from that, PoC and its numerous benefits are up for grabs. Interested in the PoC CCTV Cameras? Check here for the applicable products, technical specifications and prices.

Hikvision DS-2CD2143G0-IS vs. Dahua IPC-HDBW1431E: IP Cameras Comparison
Hikvision IP Camera DS-2CD2143G0-I(S)
When it comes to video surveillance IP Camera, one simply can not stop comparing the top two brands – Hikvision and Dahua. The fun lies in analyzing the pros and cons of two different IP Camera products of the two brands in the same class. That way, you can get a clear glimpse into the minor differences that lie between the leading horses in the surveillance race. So let us don our thinking cap and compare Hikvision’s and Dahua’s newest offerings – the Hikvision IP Camera DS-2CD2143G0-IS and the Dahua IP Camera IPC-HDBW1431E respectively.
The IP Cameras, in General
Let’s try to decipher what both these IP Cameras have to offer when it comes to the main component of surveillance – the camera itself.
The image sensors of both the Hikvision IP Camera DS-2CD2143G0-IS and the Dahua IP Camera IPC-HDBW1431E are the same i.e. 1/3” 4 MP progressive CMOS, which means that you get top-notch sensors with both the products. The shutter speed range is also the same (1/3s to 1/100000s), thus allowing each camera to capture higher quality images in low light with slow shutter speed. The Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) again is the same (120 dB), rendering perfect light balance to the image.
The only visible difference between the two IP cameras lies in the intensity of minimum illumination. With the Hikvision DS-2CD2143G0-IS, you get slightly better low light benefits, given that it offers 0.01 Lux @ (F1.2, AGC ON), 0.018 Lux @ (F1.6, AGC ON), and 0 Lux with IR. The Dahua IPC-HDBW1431E isn’t far behind with its 0.08Lux/F2.0 ( Color,1/3s,30IRE), 0.3Lux/F2.0( Color,1/30s,30IRE), and 0 Lux/F2.0 with IR on.
The Lens of the IP Cameras
The major difference between the two lenses lies in the variety of focal lengths offered. Apart from the regular 2.8mm lens, the Hikvision IP Camera DS-2CD2143G0-IS offers 3 additional focal lengths – 4mm, 6mm, and 8mm; whereas theDahua IP Camera IPC-HDBW1431E only has one additional lens of 3.6mm. Thus, the Hikvision DS-2CD2143G0-IS grants better portability options if in case you decide to change the position of the camera.
The Alarm Trigger Range
Both the IP cameras trigger the alarm for motion detection, video tampering, network disconnection, IP address conflict, illegal login, and storage anomalies. The one advantage that the Dahua IP Camera IPC-HDBW1431E has over the Hikvision IP Camera DS-2CD2143G0-IS is that the Dahua IPC-HDBW1431E alarm triggers even during a change of scene. How futuristic is that!
Video Compression of the IP Cameras
Dahua IP Camera IPC-HDBW1431E
The main compression specs of the two devices are the same viz. H.265/H.264H/MJPEG with smart codec support. However, the Hikvision DS-2CD2143G0-IS trumps the Dahua IPC-HDBW1431E to a greater degree with the former’s three-stream encoding. The Dahua IPC-HDBW1431E, on the other hand, offers the regular dual-stream. Thus, the Hikvision DS-2CD2143G0-IS can transmit 3 different resolutions of streams simultaneously. It also offers a slightly higher bit rate with its 16 Mbps maximum than Dahua’s 10 Mbps maximum. Thus, though you can experience lag-free streaming in both the products, the quality of the video in the Hikvision IP Camera DS-2CD2143G0-IS will be a wee bit better than the Dahua IP Camera IPC-HDBW1431E.
Audio Compression of the IP Cameras
Surprisingly, the Dahua IP Camera IPC-HDBW1431E doesn’t feature an audio chip, especially given the number of AV surveillance cameras that are in demand. The audio facility in the Hikvision IP Camera DS-2CD2143G0-IS has a sampling rate from 16 kHz to 48 kHz. It also supports the environment noise filtering component. Kindly note that this audio compression feature is available in model Hikvision DS-2CD2143G0-IS, not in Hikvision DS-2CD2143G0-I. When you order this model, do pay attention to the ending “S” in the model number.
Network Protocols
The network protocols of both the IP Cameras are more or less similar. Both offer ONVIF and ISAPI compatibility, with the Dahua IP Camera IPC-HDBW1431E being compatible with smartphones as well. The Hikvision IP Camera DS-2CD2143G0-IS makes up for it by featuring a wide array of security options like one-key reset, Anti-Flicker, heartbeat, mirror, password protection, privacy mask, Watermark, and IP address filtering.
Miscellaneous Features
The other miscellaneous features of the two IP cameras include operating conditions tagged to withstand any kind of weather, be it hot (up to 60 degree Celsius) or cold (up to -30 degree Celsius), or even a highly humid one (up to 95%). You can even attach them on the outside wall without bothering to cover them with plastic. In addition, both Hikvision IP Camera DS-2CD2143G0-IS and  Dahua IP Camera IPC-HDBW1431E offer a vandal resistance feature at the level of IK10.
So, which one to choose? Hikvision DS-2CD2143G0-IS or Dahua IPC-HDBW1431E?
With a bird’s eye view, the Hikvision IP Camera DS-2CD2143G0-IS and the Dahua IP Camera IPC-HDBW1431E are quite similar. But when you zoom in on the specifics, you will find a few good differences between the two. Thus, if you are willing to sacrifice audio and a better video quality for a robust construction and an additional trigger, then go for the Dahua IPC-HDBW1431E. If best-in-the-class transmission quality and focal length variety matters, then the Hikvision DS-2CD2143G0-IS is the surveillance cam for you. However, it’s not like the Hikvision DS-2CD2143G0-IS transmits low-quality videos and the Dahua IPC-HDBW1431E breaks with a touch! Don’t sweat and pick the one that suits your requirements best.

Hikvision US Cybersecurity Roadshow 2018: All You Need to Know it
Hikvision US Cybersecurity Roadshow 2018
It has been more than a week since Hikvision announced the date of their cybersecurity roadshow in the US – March 27, 2018. The roadshow will kick off in Los Angeles, gradually moving to other shortlisted cities in the country. The events are going to be hosted by Chuck Davis, the director of security (Hikvision North America). Read on to know more about the roadshow and the company before attending their event in your nearest city.
What is Hikvision?
Hikvision iDS-9632NXI-I8-16S – Artificial Intelligent NVR
If you didn’t know already, Hikvision is the name of a Hangzhou based digital surveillance company that is statistically the largest international supplier of surveillance equipment, such as CCTV Camera, IP Camera, NVR, DVR, etc. It was founded in 2001 by Zhejiang HIK Information Technology with Gong Hongjia holding the second largest part of its shares. It is better known for its high-tech security cameras and its gumption toward technological advancement. The company has employed over 25000 highly proficient individuals for its research and development facility alone! Currently, it has close to 2400 partners in over 155 countries around the world.
What is a Cybersecurity Roadshow?
Cybersecurity roadshows are essentially conducted by security and surveillance companies for the sake of corporate conglomerates and government agencies. These roadshows communicate the imminent threats faced by organizations in the virtual world and impart possible strategies to tackle those threats. They also run promotional campaigns to display and market their newest offerings.
What would I Gain from Attending One?
If you are a proud owner of a brick-and-mortar company, then you are bound to need someone or something to watch over the goings-on at the office. You cannot hope to sit there and scrutinize every bit of information that passes over the servers. A multinational conglomerate will definitely seek the aid of technology for security purposes. That is where a Cybersecurity roadshow comes in. The host will furnish you with the knowledge that you may never have imagined about in your wildest dreams. Awareness about the threats that circulate the virtual world is what matters. Only then could you go about tackling those.
What Issues will the Hikvision US Cybersecurity Roadshow Address?
As mentioned earlier, the roadshow will be led by the director of security for Hikvision North America, Chuck Davis. He may share the name with the renowned dancer and the prodigal conman, but he is his own man. Chuck Davis will bust the myths surrounding Hikvision cybersecurity in the country and unearth the long-forgotten facts. He will impart all the knowledge regarding the best IP security practices under his belt, eventually propagating the need for cybersecurity installation. Rest assured that you will be profoundly enlightened by the strategies voiced to contain the security threats using Hikvision products.
Where Exactly will the Roadshow Kick Off?
The venue of the first Hikvision event is in Los Angeles, California. It will take place at The Colony Theater Company, 555 N 3rd Street, Burbank. It will start at 10:00 hours and will be wrapped up by 12:00 hours on March 27, 2018.
Can I Just Walk In?
No! Since it is a free entry event, you will need to RSVP by registering here. But make sure that you reach the Hikvision venue nice and early to grab the best seats in the house.
What if LA is Too Far for Me?
Don’t worry! The Hikvision roadshow will travel to other cities as well. As of now, we are certain that it will happen in Las Vegas, Chicago, Washington DC, Boston, Miami, New York City, Philadelphia, Houston, Atlanta, Phoenix, and St. Louis. Needless to say, the event will carry on for several months hence.
Now that you know everything about the event, says its content itself, you have quite a few weeks to ponder over it. You may have already installed Hikvision cameras in your office quarters, but are you aware of the strategic placements? What about the threats that may still lurk around the corner? Knowledge is important, and you can amass it all during these 90-minute roadshows.
Let me tell you a lesser known secret. If you are based in Canada and are apprehensive about traveling to the US just for the sake of the roadshow, then don’t! Chuck Davis is reportedly visiting the second largest country as well. After he would have successfully wrapped up all the Hikvision events in the US that are. You only need to wait for a few good months to behold the ecstatic charisma of the event in Canada. Stay tuned for more updates!

Dahua vs. Hikvision: How to Choose? Which is Better?
Dahua vs. Hikvision – how to choose?
In this ever-growing world of video surveillance, there are no other brands more famous and reputable than Dahua and Hikvision. If you, as a customer, have just started researching about the numerous surveillance options available in the market, you are bound to end up shortlisting both the aforementioned brands. And that is when you might just behold a dead end before you. It really is difficult to pick one of the two.
Generally speaking, Hikvision is a wee bit more popular than Dahua. If you were to ask over the online forums, more people would recommend Hikvision over Dahua. However, popularity alone cannot be the deciding factor. The other aspects of the two brands more or less cancel each other out.
While Dahua and Hikvision are ruling the roost, nobody has yet been able to point out the brand that takes the top spot. So, without further ado, let us begin our quest to expose the undisputed king of surveillance CCTV cameras.
The Differences between Dahua and Hikvision
Global Market Share: It is no surprise that Hikvision rules the global market shares with a 17% forecast in 2017 (reference from IHS). Dahua comes second with a forecast of 5.5%, which is considerably lesser than the former.
The Similarities between Dahua and Hikvision
CCTV Camera Singapore
Now that we have taken a look at the differences between the two top brands, let us comprehend the similarities.
ONVIF and RTSP: The Open Network Video Interface Forum (ONVIF) is an international forum that is responsible for creating a globally recognized standard for the interface of IP-based products. Both Hikvision and Dahua support this protocol. They are also compliant with the Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) that grants access to all the non-ONVIF streaming software and hardware.
The Sensors: Both the brands install similar sensors in their products. For instance, both the DS-2CD2042WD-I and the IPC-HFW4421S have the popular 1/3” Progressive Scan CMOS sensor. Since this type of sensor is ideal for 3MP cameras and the two products above have a 4MP output, they are equipped with a 120dB WDR to enhance the quality of the output.
The Minimum Illumination: You would be surprised to know that both Hikvision and Dahua offer the same minimum illumination for their products in a particular class. Let us take the example of the DS-2CD2042WD-I and the IPC-HFW4421S again. Both these cameras can make a minimum illumination of precisely 0.01 lux and 0 lux with infrared switched on. Thus, you can expect optimum video quality in low light from both the products.
The Number of Simultaneous Streams: Most other brands of cameras are furnished with the regular dual-stream technology. Hikvision and Dahua, on the other hand, boast of the triple-stream technology! This means that their cameras can transmit three different resolutions of video streams simultaneously. However, only a select few of their products have the privilege of triple-stream; the others are equipped with dual-stream.
The Lens Variety: Both surveillance brands offer fixed lenses at varying focal lengths. Here, Dahua one-ups Hikvision by offering a better selection of lengths with each of their cameras. For instance, the Dahua IPC-HFW4431E-AS has three focal lengths at your disposal – 2.8mm, 3.6mm, and 6mm. Its Hikvision counterpart of the same class, the Hikvision DS-2CD2142FWD-IS offers similar focal lengths. (Further Reading: Hikvision vs. Dahua: Comparison of IP Camera DS-2CD2142FWD-IWS and IPC-HDBW4431E-AS)
The Maximum Bitrate: Both Hikvision and Dahua render similar max bitrate in most of their products.
The Prices: The CCTV Cameras, IP cameras, DVR, NVR, etc offered by Hikvision and Dahua are very close in price. As close competitors, Hikvision and Dahua have large variations of the products. Both brands offer really competitive prices compared with other established brands nonetheless.
Concluding Thoughts on Hikvision and Dahua
With so many similarities in the mix and the differences barely discernible between the two brands, it is a tough task to pick the winner.Hikvision, as the market leader, the higher streaming speed coupled with the best hardware money can buy renders top-notch video surveillance at an affordable price. As the inventor of HDCVI technology, Dahua is keeping a fast pace to chase the market leader. You can never go wrong with either Hikvision or Dahua.

Hikvision Protects Singapore’s World-class Building
Hikvision Protects Singapore’s World-Class Building
(15 April 2016) The stunning and iconic building – is a more than 20,000 square meter architecture masterpiece located in the center of Singapore. One of the busiest center in the world since its opening in 2002, the building has hosted more than 31,000 events, drawing a total of 84 million visitors as of 2016.
With its distinctive twin shells, this architectural masterpiece features world-class spaces in its two main venues – the Hall A and the Hall B; with capacities of 1,800 and 2,000 respectively. In March 2014, the Building was listed as one of the world’s 15 most beautiful building by Hamburg-based building-data company Emporis.
Today, the Building is renowned for possessing some of the best events in the world. With its innovative and refined characteristics, the world-class building suits a wide range of events. The hall regularly features world-renowned companies and guests, contributing to Singapore’s international and cultural vibrancy.
In 2014, after a decade of operation, management at the Building, a not-for-profit organization, and registered charity – decided to update their existing CCTV surveillance system. Working with Hikvision, a new surveillance system was designed to deliver effective internal and external surveillance and perimeter protection for this prestigious art center.
The challenge faced by HikVision
The Building’s prominent faade directly faces a number of tourists spots in Singapore. In order to preserve the aesthetics of the iconic arts building, the new IP-over-fiber surveillance system utilized carefully planned out locations for every CCTV camera.
Beyond providing effective video for general security, the new system also needed to provide 95% visual coverage of the entire site to assist with day-to-day management and visitor traffic flow as well as the implementation of required health & safety practices.
The Solution faced by HikVision
Hikvision Turbo HD (HD-TVI) CCTV Cameras
In the main hallway and inside the building, Hikvision’s 2 MP Full HD Indoor Dome Network IP Cameras (model number DS-2CD4124F-IZ) were installed to provide 1080P imaging; these cameras features Smart Focus motorized VF lenses, BLC, Smart audio, and intruder-detection functionality. Providing 24/7 coverage in the car park, 2 MP Full HD Outdoor Dome Network Cameras (DS-2CD4324F-IZ) were installed. Featuring built-in infrared (IR) LEDs, they can provide up to 165 feet (30m) of night-time viewing in complete darkness.
Preserving the internal aesthetics of the building’s architecture, compact and unobtrusive IR Mini Dome Network Cameras (DS-2CD2532F-IWS) were installed in the reception and counter areas. To assist with any disputes, the Hikvision Mini Domes, with their built-in microphones, were installed at the ticket counters and monitor all ticketing transactions while also observing any problems that might occur at the entry turnstiles. The surveillance footage from these dome cameras is a great asset in helping the building’s management team speed-up the flow of guest traffic by reducing queues and waiting times.
Providing an ideal surveillance solution to monitor the building’s perimeter, surrounding driveways, and walkways, Hikvision’s IP66-rated, 2 MP Network PTZ Dome Cameras (DS-2DF5286-A3) were installed, fully utilizing their 30x optical and 16x digital zoom and Smart Tracking functionality.
Powerful control faced by HikVision
In the control room, supporting live viewing, storage, playback, and control of the over 300 network IP cameras, are Hikvision’s DS-9664NI-XT-Series NVRs using one of the possible RAID configurations. In order to support a large number of PTZ speed domes, general security, and event management, the NVRs record both audio and video from each camera. Ideal for any size installation, the NVRs support hot-swappable HDDs and RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 storage.
To control Hikvision’s full range of Smart camera functions, including Smart search and playback, Smart detection, and record backup, as well as Smart applications such as people counting, heat mapping, and interactive mapping, all system equipment is managed by Hikvision’s open-platform iVMS-5200E Enterprise Video Management Software. Designed specifically for large-scale projects with multiple channel surveillance, this VMS offers video preview, video playback, and comprehensive alarm management. Fully integrated with the Hikvision array of NVRs, the iVMS-5200E also provides full control over the customization of video tags, playback by tag, and video searching; and for additional security of video footage, the locking and unlocking of any recorded files.
“We proposed the Hikvision solution based on our experience of using the company’s products on many other successful projects. We know Hikvision products are reliable and serve the needs of the customer perfectly. The end-user was delighted to work with us and Hikvision, the number one brand in video surveillance.”
With the Hikvision-powered security system now up and running, the Building’s team of dedicated professionals have a powerful security and site management surveillance tool at their fingertips, assisting their quest to offer a great experience for visitors, inspiring audiences, and cultivating the culture of Singapore.
