ICC clears Muhammad Hafeez, allowed to bowl in international cricket

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday announced that following remedial work and re-assessment, Mohammad Hafeez’s bowling action has been found to be legal, and the off-spinner can now resume bowling in international cricket.

On April 17, Hafeez underwent a re-assessment of his bowling action at the Loughborough University where it was revealed that the amount of elbow extension in his bowling action was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations.

The match officials are still at liberty to report Hafeez in the future if they believe he is displaying a suspect action and not reproducing the legal action from the reassessment, the ICC said in the press release. To assist the match officials, they will be provided with images and video footage of the bowler’s remodeled legal bowling action.

Reacting to the news, Hafeez tweeted he was happy to be allowed to bowl again and made a special mention of the NCA staff, thanking them for remedying his action.

Hafeez was first suspended from bowling in December 2014 after being reported in November 2014 during a Test series. Following remedial work on his bowling action, he was re-assessed and permitted to resume bowling in April 2015.

The off-spinner was then suspended from bowling in July 2015 for 12 months following a second suspension within 24 months. He was re-assessed and permitted to resume bowling in November 2016.

Hafeez was reported for the third time during the Abu Dhabi ODI against Sri Lanka in October 2017, and was subsequently suspended in November 2017 after an independent assessment revealed he had employed an illegal bowling action.

PSL beats out IPL, according to an ESPNcricinfo report

The Pakistan Super League 2018 edition saw the best fielding standards across all major T20 franchise cricket leagues around the world, beating out the Indian Premier League, Big Bash League as well as the Caribbean Premier League.

According to an ESPNcricinfo report, which sourced data from Cricket21, the PSL third edition, held in February-March this year, had 82% of catches taken, with the champions Islamabad United converting 90.4% of their chances.

The PSL fielding stats are well ahead of the BBL, where last season’s conversion rate was only 75.6%. The champions, Adelaide Strikers, were third-best with an 80% conversion rate.

The IPL, as of April 29, 2018, has seen 81% catch-conversion rate. The CPL 2017 edition had an overall conversion rate of only 72%.

The catch-conversion percentage is calculated on the basis of the number of real catching opportunities and how many of them are held or dropped.

The catching standards in the PSL were widely praised by commentators and analysts, who placed the league ahead of its competitors in fielding aerobics and catch success.

Apart from the aesthetic wonder of the fielding aerobics seen so far, the math behind these catches is even more incredible: The catch success rate this season (so far) is 90% – the highest in any T20 league in the last two years.

Actually, Strings have replaced Atif Aslam on Pepsi Battle of the Bands 2018

Some major shuffles have happened this year in Pepsi Battle of the Bands.

We have it from sources that Faisal Rafi will not be producing the new season of the show and has been replaced by Shahi Hasan as a producer.

While Fawad Khan remains to be the face of Pepsi BOTB, news regarding the new panel of judges has been doing the rounds for quite some time. It was earlier confirmed that Atif Aslam would not be onboard this season; a very high participation price (we heard rumours of 25 crores being demanded) and/or unavailability of dates were quoted as reason, all unofficially of course. Then we heard, also unofficially since Pepsi made no formal announcement, that Ali Zafar would be replacing Atif.

That changed, for obvious reasons.

Now it has been confirmed that the musical duo Strings will be judges on the panel, along with Fawad Khan and Meesha Shafi. After having completed four successful years as producers on Coke Studio, the band is all set to judge the biggest music show and mentor aspiring musicians from all across Pakistan.

This should be fun!

2019 Cricket World Cup to follow 92 World Cup format

June 16, 2019. Mark the date. Two years after clashing in the Champions Trophy final, India and Pakistan will meet at Old Trafford in the marquee contest of the 2019 World Cup.

The tournament returns to the format used in 1992: all 10 teams play each other in the league stage with four of them progressing to the knockouts.

England will meet South Africa to unveil the most prestigious event in cricket at The Oval on May 30. The tournament will be played at 11 venues across England and Wales with Lord’s hosting its fifth World Cup final on July 14.

Even though the World Cup will be played during the first half of the English summer, the ICC has insured the knockout matches – both semi-finals and the final – by having reserve days for the three games. Old Trafford will host the first semi-final (No. 1 v No. 4) on July 9 with the action shifting to Edgbaston two days later for the other semi between the second and third-placed teams on the league table.

The eleven venues that will host the tournament are Lord’s, the Oval, Edgbaston, Trent Bridge, Headingley, Old Trafford, Taunton, Bristol, Chester-le-Street, Southampton and Cardiff.

Defending champions Australia will play qualifiers Afghanistan in Bristol on June 2 under lights. That match is one of seven day-night contests scheduled for the tournament, including the June 29 clash between 2015 finalists Australia and New Zealand at Lord’s. In all, the tournament comprises 48 matches to be played across 46 days.

The India-Pakistan contest, at the same venue that hosted their Super Six clashin the 1999 edition of the tournament, is expected to once again attract record eyeballs, as was the case during both their meetings during last year’s Champions Trophy.

By the time India play their first match of the tournament – against South Africa on June 5, in Southampton – some of the other teams will already have played two matches. This is the result of a request from the BCCI, who wanted India’s first match pushed back to comply with the Lodha Committee’s recommendation that there needed to be a 15-day window between the IPL and India’s participation in any international series or tournament.

The return to the 1992 format, and the schedule, were approved by the ICC’ chief executives committee (CEC) during the ICC’s quarterly meetings on Monday and Tuesday. The ICC Board, which meets on Thursday, is yet to ratify the CEC’s decisions.

Along with hosts England, seven other countries – Australia, Bangladesh, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka – secured a direct entry to the World Cup last September. In March, Afghanistan and West Indies booked the final two slots after finishing as the top two teams in the World Cup Qualifier.

IPL 2019 Could be Moved to UAE Due to General Elections

With the general elections set to take place in 2019, the Indian Premier League (IPL) could well be moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). While talks are still in a nascent stage, it could be the more favoured venue as UAE played host to the IPL even in 2014. The first half of the league was played in UAE before the cash-rich league returned to India in the business end.

Speaking to CricketNext, IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla said: “With the Lok Sabha elections set to take place, UAE is definitely one of the options, but a final call will be taken after taking the view of all the stakeholders.”

Another official said that there are two sides to the scenario. If the entire tournament has to be shifted due to the elections, then the cash-rich league could well be moved to South Africa, but if it is a case of a few games or half the league, then UAE is the solution as that is logistically also more viable.

There is also an option of an early election in which case the 12th edition of the IPL will be played in India only.

Indian tennis stalwart Sania Mirza and Pakistani cricket star Shoaib Malik are all set to become parents as the couple recently announced Sania’s pregnancy on social media.

Sania and Shoaib took to Twitter to share this news with their followers, revealing that the baby will have Mirza-Malik as its surname.

Earlier, Sania revealed that she wants a daughter whenever she decides to start a family.

Sania’s father and coach Imran confirmed to Indian news agency that the six-time Grand Slam champion is indeed expecting a child. “Yes, it’s true,” Imran told PTI adding that the baby is due in October.

Attending a discussion on Gender Bias at Goa Fest 2018, Sania shared, “Today I will tell you a secret. My husband and I have spoken about it and we have decided that whenever we have a child, the child will have Mirza Malik as a surname and not just Malik. So that’s where we stand as a family including my husband. He actually wants a daughter.”

“I have not changed my surname (post marriage) and my name is still Sania Mirza and it will remain that way. The family name is going to go forward,” she added.

Sania and Shoaib are living a happy married life for the last eight years as their wedding had taken place on April 12, 2010 in Hyderabad Deccan (India).

Lure Hsu is a 41-year-old woman from Taiwan and she specializes in interior design as well as social media. Her Instagram account has racked up more than 623,000 followers and that number has only been rising after she shared photos of herself, her two sisters and her mother.

The viral photo caught the attention of mainstream media after the 41-year-old old showed off a picture of her with her 36 year old sister, Sharon, and 40 year old sister FayFay.

While they are both way past their 20’s there is no doubt that all three women look like they could pass off as college students.

But besides the sisters, their 63-year-old mother looks just as young as them (if not younger!). The four Hsu women can easily pass off as sisters on any given day.

Since the advent of their pictures on social media, Taiwanese media has kindly deemed them ‘the family of frozen ages.’ FayFay, who just turned 40 years old, casually remarked that when she goes out with her 8 and 10 year old daughters, people usually mistake the trio for sisters.

FayFay said: ‘when our mother was young, she was incredible youthful looking. Now she still looks great.’ (Yes, the woman in the middle is their mother…)

But the sisters insist that it is their diet that helps them maintain their youthful looks. In an interview with Friday Magazine, Lure said: ‘once your skin has enough water, you don’t even need to worry about aging and wrinkles.’

FayFay agreed by saying: ‘I have been doing that for more than a decade. I drink 350ml to 500ml [of lukewarm water every morning].’

She continued: ‘because I have two daughters, I stick to a routine. I go to bed and get up early every day, and I eat my three meals on time every day. I never skip breakfast because eating your food on time could help you stay slim.’

The youthful looking sisters, and their mother, insist that their 74 year old father is just as youthful as they are but he is just too camera shy to pose for pictures.

36 year old Sharon Hsu, is the youngest of the sisters, and she works as a model on her free time and is also a well known celebrity in Taiwan.

Kapil Sharma has become controversy’s favourite child, especially after his Twitter fight with a reporter and his former managers Preeti and Neeti Simoes.

Earlier this month, Kapil tweeted a copy of the legal document that he filed against them, saying that there will always be some people who just want to defame you for few bucks. On this, Preeti Simoes shared that she is concerned about Kapil as he is suffering from severe depression and requires medication.

Days after Kapil Sharma’s police complaint got leaked, Preeti Simoes told a news daily, “There is nothing to react. I am not losing my sleep over this.”

Here’s her statement:

‘If this gets into the legal zone, how poor Kapil will prove because, I, for one know that he is not in his right frame of mind.’

“There is media evidence of me being the first one from my team who asked people to not buy tickets, Kapil Sharma fan club knows that, they used to come watch the show for free. Unfortunately, I hoped that the allegations were up to my standard than theirs. I am not going to sit and sell tickets for Rs 30,000. Also, I am wondering who will buy a 30,000 ticket to watch the show? I don’t think this was a well-thought allegation.”

‘If I know everything about him, as Kapil claims, then I know that he made about Rs 100 crore over the last year…’

“Why will I only ask for Rs 25 lakh? I should be asking for Rs 25 crore, isn’t it? Which I probably should now as defamation suit because his team has come up with this ridiculous idea, but we are letting it go only because we genuinely feel it is not Kapil.”

According to Pinkvilla, Preeti at the end said, “Since you never remembered us during your success, please forget us during your failure.”

Kapil had filed a report against Preeti and Neeti Simoes a few days back. So, how about we read what Kapil’s LEAKED report said?

It all began when Kapil was looking for a manager for K9 Productions and met Preeti who later became a part of Comedy Nights With Kapil.

“Right from the shooting schedules to guest coordination, everything was managed by Preeti. For that, I paid her Rs 2 lakh a month. Soon, I hired her sister Neeti as well and as the show became popular and the channel benefitted from it. So, I raised their salaries. Simoes sisters were close to me and they knew everything about my personal and professional life.

‘In 2013, a girl named Anushree was hired as a talent manager for my show.’

But after Simoes sisters insisted I fired her in 2016. Preeti and Neeti told me that Anushree charges money from people for coming on the show but once I met her at some programme and she instead revealed that Simoes sisters were actually doing it. She told me that they charge money from the people who want to sit in the audience and the rates vary depending on which row. People who sit in the front row are charged more.

‘Due to their lack of coordination and not informing me on time, several celebs were left miffed with me.’

Preeti and Neeti were responsible for handling the celebrity guests and letting me know every detail beforehand. They tried to create misunderstanding between my other fellow actors and me.

‘Due to Preeti and Neeti’s miscommunication, I suffered a lot.’

Many celebs were upset with me and this hampered my public image. And surprisingly, all of this was told to me by Anushree. I realised that people I trusted the most were trying to pull me down and tarnish my image and my teammates were scared to tell me fearing a job loss.

‘In 2016, I warned them to improve their work.’

However, soon after that, we had an argument and the Simoes sisters quit the job. But they came back to me after three days saying let bygones be bygones and we must work together. Again I found out that they are trying to hamper my work and after a heated exchange, they left the show in March 2017.

‘Soon after their exit, a leading entertainment portal started publishing negative and false stories about me.’

In September 2017, one of my close friends Gurjot met Preeti in a cafe where they talked about me and my work. Gurjot told me that to take revenge from me, Preeti has leaked the info to the entertainment portal. When my friend asked her not to do such things, she demanded Rs 25 lakh for it. The portal continued to carry negative stories about me, and it affected my work.

‘In February 2018, I confronted Preeti at her house and requested her to end all of this.’

She replied saying, ‘You are nothing without me in the industry and I will not leave you. I will swipe you away from the industry and if you want to end all of this then pay me Rs 25 lakh.’ I left her house after that.

‘I contacted my lawyer Tanveer Nizam and decided to file a police complaint.’

Meanwhile, the portal continued with its negative stories about me and on April 6, I called Preeti, but she did not respond. After that, I took the number of the journalist from Neeti, who WhatsApp me. I called the guy, and soon it became heated.

‘My managers, Preeti and Neeti Simoes have tried to malign my image and hamper my work.’

The journalist spread negative stories about me which affected my mental health. The trio demanded Rs 25 lakh from me, and this left me with no choice but to file a police complaint.”

Afridi, Malik to participate in Windies T20I for ICC World XI

ICC World T20 winners – Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik and Thisara Perera – have confirmed their participation for the ICC World XI in a T20I against the West Indies to be played at Lord’s on May 31. The match is being organised to raise funds for stadia in the Caribbean that were badly damaged following Hurricanes Irma and Maria last year. More names for the ICC World XI will be announced before the fixture.

Afridi and Malik were part of the Pakistan squad that won the ICC World T20 2009 at Lord’s, while Perera was a member of the Sri Lanka side that lifted the trophy in Dhaka in 2014. The star-studded line-up will be led by England’s white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan.

Shahid Afridi:

“I am humbled to have been selected for such a noble cause,” said former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi. “Cricket is one big family and no matter how hard and tough we play against each other, there is tremendous comradery within the group.

“As such, it is our moral and professional obligation to stand up and support whenever and wherever we can, to assist our members, colleagues and cricket fans.

“Lord’s is an iconic venue and the perfect location for this match. I have some fond memories of this great venue, having played the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 1999 and the ICC World T20 2009, and I look forward to visiting it again in May with an aim to entertain the fans.”

Shoaib Malik:

2009 ICC World T20 and 2017 Champions Trophy winner Shoaib Malik said: “It’s a matter of great honour and pride to be selected in an ICC World XI and a wonderful opportunity to play along with and against some of the biggest names in world cricket.

“As much as the chance of figuring in such a select group, I also see this as an opportunity to contribute in a meaningful cause. We have all heard of the damage caused by the two hurricanes in the West Indies last year, and it is really good to see so many cricketers come together for the objective of raising funds to repair the damage to cricket venues. “That the match is being played at Lord’s makes this event extra special for me. Lord’s obviously is one of the most revered cricket venues, but I also have some very delightful memories there. One that really stands out is anchoring the chase along with Shahid Afridi when we beat Sri Lanka in the final to win the ICC World Twenty20 in 2009.”

Thisara Perera:

Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera said: “I’m privileged to have made the World XI side for a second time after having also played in the series against Pakistan in Lahore last year. I’m looking forward to the match at Lord’s next month with great enthusiasm as this is one of those rare opportunities when you get to rub shoulders with the best in the world. To be playing alongside so many top players from different countries will definitely be a high point of my career.”

Mom-Son Started ‘Special Milk’ Business That Needs No Animals, Got Rs 2.5 Cr Funding Within Months

The younger generation, today, is coming up with brilliant entrepreneurial concepts in various sectors. From agriculture to dairy, we can witness new techniques being adopted; are not just going organic. These practices also bring good money to farmers.

With increasing awareness around animal abuse int the country, people are gradually cutting down on their consumption of animal products like meat and dairy items. Little by little, people are adopting veganism and house after house is replacing its paneer with soybean, and animal milk with vegan milk.

To promote the idea, 22-year-old animal lover Abhay Rangan started a vegan milk business, encouraging people to shun animal milk and eliminate animal cruelty. Abhay established his business along with his mother and today, the mother-son duo has made their place in the dairy industry.

Vegan milk what?

Vegan milk is prepared from various fruits and flowers rather than extracting it from an animal. While most milk comes from factory farms, and is extracted from confined animals, vegan milk refrains from using cattle.

“I want people to use this milk so that we can stop animal abuse,” says Abhay in an interview with KenFolios.

Abhay, an engineering student, does the manufacturing and marketing of the milk. He is currently pursuing his higher studies abroad. A few months back, he started his venture along with his mother. He would travel 500 km every week to get a steady supply of vegan milk. He would cover the entire South India from Bengaluru to achieve his supply target.

However, his exhausting journey ceased when he finally started his website and started selling the products online. He tells that he had to face a lot of hardship in the beginning. A major part of the milk was spoilt because of the journey, also resulting in losses.

Less investment

Initially, Abhay would prepare milk using household utensils, which was a challenging task. Gradually, he bought the required machinery and began his start up Veganarke. He also started his own website. Today, he sells different types of vegan milk online. He says that even though there are many animal activists, not many people are working on this level, as the technique is expensive.

Abhay wanted to bring these products in the market at an affordable price. Gradually, his hard work started paying off. As a student, he began researching on cheaper methods for manufacturing so that the investment could be controlled. He started with almond and coconut milk as they were cheap and easily available. As people became more aware, they started purchasing his products.

Funding worth millions

Along the journey, he met another animal activist. He loved Abhay’s concept and his work to prevent animal cruelty. He raised funds of Rs 2.5 crore for the venture. Abhay plans to utilise the funds for massive expansion of his business.

Abhay also started a non-profit organization SARV (Society for Animal Rights and Veganism), at the age of 16, to promote veganism and animal rights. With the help of its volunteers, SARV was active in more than 10 cities.

MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor is facing trolls for standing up for eight-year-old Asifa Bano who was raped and murdered in India-occupied Kashmir.

The actress posed for a picture holding a placard which demanded justice for Asifa.

The picture was posted by Kareena’s co-star Swara Bhasker on Twitter which went viral on social media in record time.

While many Twitter followers praised the actress for standing up for such a noble cause, a user criticized the actress that she should be ashamed for marrying a Muslim and naming her son Taimur who shares the name with a Turco-Mongol conqueror.

“She should be ashamed of the fact that despite being a Hindu is married to a Muslim. Has a child with him and named him Taimur, after a brutal Islamic barbarian,” he wrote.

However, Bhasker did not hold back and instantly slammed the troll by saying that he is a “shame on India and Hindus”.

“You should be ashamed you exist. That God gave you a brain which you chose to fill with hate and a mouth you chose to spew filth from. You are a shame on India and Hindus. That sh**s like you feel emboldened to talk this crap publicly is this government’s legacy,” she wrote.

Other Bollywood actors have also stood up for Asifa.
