How BTS Showed Korean Pride and Won the Grammys Red Carpet
The seven members of BTS now possess the sort of unfettered global influence that fashion houses dream of. When it was announced that the K-pop super group would be attending the Grammys, one immediately wondered what statement they would make with their clothes. Would it be Dior by Kim Jones, whom the boys just met in Los Angeles? Or would it be Gucci or Saint Laurent, with whom they had partnered before? Any designer with the faintest inkling of BTS’s fame should jump through hoops to dress them.
Moments ago, the band arrived on the red carpet in very crisp and clean tuxedos. At first glance, one might think it the obvious choice; a black tuxedo is the absolute epitome of classic American style. But BTS subverted this stereotype in one simple stroke by enlisting two South Korean designers. JayBaek Couture delivered custom looks for V, Jungkook, Jin, Jimin, Suga, and RM, while J-Hope’s came from designer Kim Seo Ryong, whose namesake label has long been a fixture at Seoul Fashion Week.
Tumblr media
There is a strong domestic market for custom suits in South Korea, as the country’s thriving entertainment industry leaves countless stars in need of occasion clothes. JayBaek Couture, for instance, often dresses actors like Hyun Bin for film premieres and K-pop stars like BTS and GOT7 for regional awards shows. Rarely, however, are these designers chosen for international events—and never one on the scale of the Grammys. It’s always a brand with big name recognition, chosen to underscore that implicit quest for Western acceptance. Yet Jungkook, Jimin, Jin, J-Hope, Suga, RM, and V looked better than ever tonight, particularly V who had dyed his hair a pale mint green for the occasion (Jimin’s lilac lengths made a nice complementary pop).
By choosing these respected, but lesser known names, BTS used their platform to shine a light on their countrymen. Consider it the ultimate power move and a poignant reminder: That whether it’s fashion or music, talent can come from anywhere.

the reason i want to be a writer is because sometimes i consume a piece of media, a book or tv show or movie, and i am so overwhelmed by how it touches me. sometimes, there is a character or a story line that stays with me, consistently, far past after i’ve finished it, and i become enamored by the idea that someone out there, a writer, created this. a writer gave me this feeling and made me fall in love with something that they wrote. and i want to recreate that feeling for someone else.

Coming Up With Scene Ideas
Tumblr media
This is also available on wordsnstuffblog.com!
– A lot of authors and writers commonly struggle with coming up with ideas for scenes that convey all the things needed to portray your story effectively to the reader. I’ve made a list of things to think about when you’re coming up with ideas for scenes in your story for use whenever you’re lost or stuck. Happy writing!
Patreon || Ko-Fi || Masterlists || Work In Progress || Studyblr || Studygram
Things To Consider When Brainstorming
What do you want to convey in this scene?
Character growth or regression? Plot progression or subplot significance? Figure out the technical purpose of the scene before coming up with what it’s going to be, because if you focus solely on what happens in it, you’ll end up having to cut a lot of it to make way for the stuff that makes the story stronger, rather than more dramatic.
Who should be included in this scene?
Every scene needs a cast, so after you’ve figured out what you want to convey to the reader through the scene, you need to decide what combination of characters will do that efficiently. What characters’ interactions could be used to get the information from your brain to the reader’s, and in the most engaging way?
How much page time can you dedicate to this scene?
Word counts and page limits don’t really matter much in the scheme of things because you can always go back later and cut out some stuff or add some things to make sure the page time dedicated to each subject is efficient and effective. However, it’s really helpful to have an idea of how much page time this subject is worth, and this of course goes back to the main idea you’re trying to convey. If you’re trying to illustrate an important aspect of two characters’ relationship, it probably constitutes a bit more time and attention to detail than writing a short argument between two characters that only acts as a set up for a future scene.
How does this scene contribute to the story progression?
This scene, like every other, needs to do at least two things. The first (and most imperative) is contribute to the progression of the plot, whether that be the building up the conflict or moving toward the resolution. It should convey important information to the reader that pushes the plot forward in some way. This also includes subplots. The second can be any one or combination of the following two options: A) develop the characters and show how they are growing/regressing, or B) develop the world the characters are in, and convey important information that will contribute to the reader’s understanding of the story. This is also a good place to start thinking about foreshadowing and the consequences of events in the scene on the future of the characters and the conflict overall.

Describing Characters Through 'Showing'
Describing characters can be a little bit of a ‘telling’ minefield. While you are almost certainly going to end up with some ‘told’ description of a character, try to keep it to a minimum, ‘showing’ things about their appearance through action and dialogue instead.
Examples:
Instead of ‘She was short’, use ‘She clambered onto the chair, her legs dangling several inches above the floor’
Instead of ‘He was tall’, use ‘He ducked under the doorway’
Instead of ‘He was a smoker’, use ‘He shook my hand, his yellowed fingers leaving the scent of cigarettes on mine’
Instead of ‘She had bad teeth’, use ‘She laughed, instinctively covering her open mouth with her hand’
So you see how a lot of information can be shown to your readers rather than simply told to them.
And remember that your readers have imaginations, imaginations that they enjoy using. Let them fill in the gaps - don’t give them a detailed head to toe description laying out mole and strand of hair.

The trope of the Rule of Three is the concept of grouping sequences or characters in threes to provide a certain effect. This trope is very widespread. For example, many speeches feature a word or phrase that is said three-times, novels has three acts and a lot of the time we provide three examples like I am doing now. This concept is barely even a trope anymore because of it so ingrained into everyday life and literature that it is sometimes invisible.
The Rule of Three tropes suggests that characters, examples or events that come in threes are more effective and satisfying as three is number that you can identify a pattern.
Using the Rule of Three
This principle is used quite widely with characters. A classic use of this trope is the three siblings, the first two fail, and the youngest succeed at the central conflict of the story, example: three billy goats gruff and the three little pigs. This trope is used to create satisfaction when the sibling final succeeds. The more modern use of the trope is the three best friends, usually each of them, on a surface level, an archetype. This concept is useful because you only need to create three different relationships but are still able to have diverse opinions and culture.
Another positive example of the use of the rule of three is in the three-act structure in storytelling; each act has its trial for the characters. For a positive arc often the character fails two times before learning their lesson in the third act or climax. This principle works well as the reader thinks that the protagonist has struggled enough. On the other side of the spectrum, in a negative arc, the character might succeed the first two times but fail the last act as they haven’t learned the lesson of the novel.
Although helpful, the rule of three can sometimes become predictable as it is used so frequently; this is when subverting the trope can be useful.
Subverting the Rule of Three
Subverting this principle has both positive and negative effects in the story since the rule of three is so easy and straightforward to use.
The negative effects of subverting the concept character-wise are that it can cause unbalance in the relationships. Adding one character to the three characters of your story means that you will have to have six different character relationships or if you add more, you might have to bench one of your characters arcs. A popular film that suffers from unbalanced character dynamics is Avengers: Age of Ultron. This unbalance is quite significant in the character Thor who becomes a static character, that movie has plenty of other problems as well. However, if you can balance the character arcs and relationships, I believe this would be good as it could shake up the story.
I believe that the positive traits of subverting this trope can be exemplified in one scene from the HBO series Game of Thrones. In episode 9 of season 6, there is a scene that shows our Protagonist’s, Jon Snow, younger brother Rickon running to Jon across a field just before a battle. However, the antagonist Ramsey Bolton is firing arrows at Rickon with the intent of killing him. Ramsey shoots the first arrow, and it misses Rickon. The second arrow has the same result. Then the filmmakers specifically focused on the third arrow, showing Ramsey lining up the shot with precise detail. The audience is now on the edge of their seat, this is the third arrow, and if their subconscious knowledge of storytelling is right, this arrow will hit Rickon, but it doesn’t. The arrow misses Rickon again. The audience is relieved, they begin to believe that Rickon might have a chance. But then out of nowhere, the fourth arrow hits its target, killing Rickon. This fantastic subversion of the rule of three keeps up the tension, the suspense while also shocking the audience. I believe this the best example to show of the subversion of the concept.
Extra Notes
Hey guys I hope you like this new subject I am writing about. I find tropes fascinating because they are sometimes super great to use in story telling but then get often over used. If you want me to talk about specific tropes, let me know.

(LD)UTS - prologue two
Tumblr media
(Last Dance) Under The Sun
Synopsis: “The end of the world is really, nearly here. You can taste it in the air, feel Earth’s sentencing through every heavy hour that passes in seconds, too quick, too short, too thin. It is written across the skies and stars, a timer or ticker, not visible but palpable in every panicked eye that looks above.
The end is coming.
It’s coming, and it’s terrifying.. or at least, it should be terrifying.
Except it isn’t. Not quite yet.”
After it’s discovered that a gigantic, 111-mile wide asteroid named Athos is on a collision course with Earth, strategies are set in motion to deflect or destroy it before it can hit. However, when all plans fail, the world has less than seven weeks left before impact. Scientists are calling it the real “end of the Earth”: there will be total, global extinction with no chances of life surviving.
But the news doesn’t stop a group of five friends from making the very most of their remaining time. Together, they set out on a journey to complete their bucket lists in the forty-six days that the world has left.
Characters: OT7, reader, other characters to be added later.
Genre: science fiction / pre-apocalyptic (extinction-level event), extremely heavy angst, sickly sweet fluff, offensive low-class, middle-finger, highly offensive banter-between-best-pals style humour.
Warnings: multiple major character death, discussions of death and the afterlife (non-religious, mostly speculative), mentions of crime, riots, mercenaries, alcohol, dark humour, other sensitive topics which I will update here as the story progresses.
Chapters: Prologue (1) | Prologue (2) | One | Two | Three | Four | Five | Six | Seven | Epilogue
—–
Home.
Finally, you are home.
It hasn’t really been that long, you realise; not even a year since you last stepped foot in this house. But as you stand in the doorway you are still surprised to find that everything is just as you remembered it being the last time you were here. The furniture unchanged, cream walls lined with bookcases loaded with story upon story, familiar faces in photo frames, smiling back at you as you take it all in. The room still smells like summer blossom and linen and the grandfather clock is still ticking forward.
Yes, everything is just as you remember it. And yet nothing is the same anymore.
Your family are not here, and you guess that they have been gone for a short while now, and had definitely left in a hurry. There is a half-drank mug of cola on the coffee table, dusty lip-balm glossing the rim and a pair of glasses with their arms extended lay next to a book that is flipped upside down, open on the last page that your mom must have been reading. The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo. You don’t allow a second to remind yourself that, with them gone, you are missing some of your own lights. Nor do you think on how this world, too, will fall very dark, very soon.
It takes a few moments for you to gather your thoughts, take in the emotions that are brewing within you. There is something in the air, something you can’t quite pinpoint, that is tense and uneasy. You are home and yet you feel like an intruder. Like you have opened the door to the past, walked straight into a memory where you almost don’t belong, and even though the memory is yours, you feel like you don’t deserve it. It is too raw, too bitter-sweet and wonderful and painful. To be home has never felt so wrong, and it shall always feel wrong, so long as your loved ones are not here. But you ignore the ache in your chest that is telling you that, and take a seat anyway. And again, you do not allow yourself to think on never seeing them again.
>>
“Yoongi?”
“Mmh?”
“Can I ask you something?”
“Shoot.”
Jungkook pauses, and suddenly all of his words fall flat on his tongue. He knows exactly what he wants to ask, but the words taste cold, too cold and sharp and he cannot mentally bring himself to sound them out. Yoongi seems to notice this and smiles.
“I get it, Kook. You don’t need to say it.”
“I don’t?”
“No,” Yoongi says, and moves to stand next to Jungkook. It is a peaceful day, and both men take a moment to appreciate the silence that settles between them, staring out at the river where the dog is still playing with Jimin and wrestling with a very large stick. In the background, Taehyung is laughing with Seokjin, and Hoseok has managed to find an even larger stick – no, log – and is doing his best to swing it hard and launch it far into the water. At the back of his mind, Yoongi is wondering whether now is a good time to be honest with the young man standing next to him, but he quickly bats the thought away. It doesn’t matter right now, he reminds himself.
Though he doesn’t forget, either, that there isn’t much time left now. And he still has a lot of promises to keep.
