DRINKING LAWS

The age of drinking, in Dhangrest, is 16 years old. It is not looked upon too favorably at that age, but it is accepted. 18 is the generally more accepted age where you are allowed to get drunk and no-one would be surprised or upset about it.

Harry Whitehorse started drinking at 16 in attempt to grow up faster, much to his grandfather’s distaste, and has made a fool of himself. But, because he started drinking early on, he has gathered himself a reasonable tolerance for alcohol and enjoys the flavor of harder liquors.

His favorite is a Framboise Beer made in Dhangrest.

“Then perhaps I should make you a cup of tea?” he offered up. It wouldn’t be easy doing work f the other was uncomfortable around him. 

Giving a small smile, the Emperor looked over what they already had before looking at the schedules Flynn had help set when Aurion was being built. 

“Maybe the best plan of action would be to ask the Commandant what did and didn’t work when he helped build Aurion then use that information to work the scheduling.”

Harry had never been good with authority.

“ nah. don’t need tea, though if ya’ve got somethin’ stronger, i’d take that. ”

Growing up primarily in the Guilds also, unfortunately for Ioder, soured the guild leaders disposition towards the Empire and whatever tactics it may use to help it’s case against them. Not that Harry had any doubt his Highness was any different to him.

Which, truthfully, was one of the only reasons Harry felt anywhere near good about doing this.  “ that sounds good. the union’s a little more on edge recently without barriers around, so we’d need more time ta prepare a team either way. ” And they would like to prioritize the people needed and how they could work together with everyone else.

Just as an extra measure against incident.

“ perhaps if we had more information ‘bout what’s goin’ on when the empire needs our help, we could more readily work without havin’ ta send an envoy- ” himself, this time, “ - every time. ”

    “ it ain’t like that! ”

 Harry was quick to retort as Casey threw her words like calculated stones. They hit harder than he would ever like to admit, puncturing and breaking glass armor he had built up slowly and steadily. 

Though some truth was left in his words as Harry looked to the side. Averted gaze an indicator for the fellow guildee how her ‘Don’ felt.

“ it ain’t that life terrifies me. it’s … “ he hesitates. On the tip of his tongue, Harry pulls in a sharp breath before slowly letting up. “ … it’s what i’ll do with life. that worries me. “

“Hmm. That’s a political nightmare if I ever saw one. No wonder it’s a touchy subject,” Alvin observed. He settled back in his chair, mulling all of that over. It mostly tallied with what Patty had told him, although she’d left out the part about the monsters.

Then again, she didn’t necessarily have a reason to know that. On the third hand – Alvin was running out of hands – she obviously knew more than she let on if she was lying about Aifread. Why would she, though? All things considered, Aifread sounded absolutely infamous.

All of that led to more questions while Alvin chewed on the rest of the story. “So the Black Hope’s just left to drift, huh? Or is it docked somewhere? No one’s been out to put down the monsters?” 

“ e’yup, left to drift. ”  It was a political nightmare. Some people believed it disrespectful while others would then jump on Altosk’s attempt at retaining the boat as showing their personal opinion on them. Not to mention… “ it’s sad, really. Th’ ship seemed relatively nice. But I can’t get sailor’s ta go collect it ‘cuz of their superstitions, an’ I don’t gotta ‘nough hands currently in Altosk to go and get it even if I thought I could starve off scrutiny. ”

Harry was focused on one thing at the moment: Keeping Dhangrest running and protected. It was a hard sell, needing to keep all his jobs in line, the Union under control, and maintain the city on top of it.

Crazy his gramps had any time left in the day.

There’s a pause as Harry leans back in his chair, brows furrowed thoughtfully. “ Are ya sure yer pint-sized friend talked ‘bout Aifread? Maybe they meant Seifer. ”

“Ugly as Barnacles. He makes poor cuttlefish cry when they see his face ”

Sea blue hues watched him as she kept smirking, though it was slowly dying down into a smile as she watched him.

“I’ll overlook the old remark since ya went and called me pretty, lil'lad.” A smile as a gloved hand moved to ruffle his hair. What a cutie. “Whats yer name, lil'lad?”

“ Nuh-uh!! Cuttlefish would love his face! ”

Not that Harry knew what a cuttlefish was, nor why they would be crying(or if they even could cry). He just knew that he had to defend his Pappy’s honor! Nobody should make fun of his face. After all, if you didn’t want to be made fun of, you don’t make fun of others.

Puffing up cheeks, Harry crossed his arms stubbornly over his chest in a similar fashion to Don. Squinting eyes narrowly, as-if that could threaten anyone.

“ M’name’s Harry! Harry Whitehorse.” There’s a lifting of hands, trying to swat Aifread away from his head as she ruffled blond hair into a fluffy, soft mess. “ Hey!! That took me forever! “

There was a snort at that, resting her hand on her hip as she watched the kid. He probably had the Don wrapped around his finger with how cute he was. Kneeling down, she smirked at him.

“As nice as whale’s butt crack, ya mean?” Oh, this boy was going to be fun to tease. It’d be a while till things would wrap up and she had to leave… but until then, she’d be sure to give Don a nice headache.

“ Nuh-uh! He’s. He’s ten bajillion million times better looking than a whale butt. ”

   Harry stood firmly there, brow knit forward, lips pulled out to pout at this wrong (very wrong) woman. Even as she kneeled closer to meet him eye-to-eye, he wouldn’t change his mind!

“ Just cuz you’re a pretty, old lady doesn’t mean you gotta be mean like that! ” What did his Pappy ever do to her? Nothing! That’s what. And he knew it too, because his Pappy would never hurt a pretty lady. Especially an older one at that!

   Harry had snuck out of the guild hall once again without a guard over his shoulder. It wasn’t anything against his grandpa’s vigilant watch, it was just that they were so boring! He never got to do or explore where he wanted to.

   So it struck him a surprise as a woman seemed to block his path. Looking over the short child, almost amused. He couldn’t take such rude comment! Pappy was so amazing, why would anyone say anything like that?!

“ Pappy’s face looks nice! That’s rude! ”

   Ah. Literal even at such a young age.
