Her giggle settled into a small smile as she gazed up at him, wondering just how she lucked out with Amycus. If it had been any other person, she doubted they would look at her with the same softness he did, let alone give her the time of day. Her small smile widened as his words settled. “The Carrow family library? You’re being serious right now?” Beaming, she nodded. “The library in the Nott Manor was always my favorite room in the house, though I’m sure it pales in comparison to yours…”
Seeing Elodie happy-and knowing that he played a part in causing that happiness-made something warm settle in Amycus’s chest. He wasn’t used to caring about many people-for years, it had really only been his sister-but Elodie made him smile, made him feel at ease more than anyone else ever had. “Of course,” he told her, drinking in the sight of her smile. “It’s lacking in more of the modern publications-mother and father both don’t care for reading as a passtime, but my grandmother was quite the reader,” he explained, smiling fondly at the thought of the old woman. “It was her passion project, the library.”

“He did, I was studying and he apparently decided I wasn’t paying him enough attention,” Winnie huffed, shaking her head. As he handed her the treats, her face lit up slightly. “Oh Merlin, thank you. You’re honestly a life saver. I was gonna bring some with me, but I ran out yesterday and haven’t had time to go back to Hogsmeade and grab some.” She rambled on.
Amycus hummed, nodding his head. “Cats are like that,” he said, taking note of the colors accenting her uniform. “There’s a few spots between the Hufflepuff common rooms and the kitchens where I tend to see a lot of pets,” he mentioned, thinking of a few corners he knew Apollo liked to curl up in. He hesitated, never really one to help, but thinking about the cat that was currently missing. “Do you want help looking?”

“Thanks.” She said once she was finally able to open the door. “I didn’t forget, but thank you for the reminder. I left my wand in the classroom with all my other stuff.” Alice explained. “I’m really not as thick and I may look from being stuck in a broom cupboard.”
Amycus snorted, offering a curt nod to Alice to acknowledge her thanks. “How’d you end up here when all your stuff is in the class room?” he asked, looking between her and the broom cupboard. “I mean, I assume you didn’t lock yourself in there, but you also couldn’t manage to keep your wand on you.”

“how… boring.” he said plainly. antonin had been hoping for something more exciting to talk about but the younger student obviously wasn’t going to talk. “happy to be back?” he asked, hoping to get something else out of the other.
“Well, it doesn’t sound like yours was much better,” Amycus said, looking up to offer Antonin a tight smile. He shrugged at the other boy’s question. Hogwarts meant mixed company, a thing he didn’t particularly care for, but it also meant time away from his parents and seeing more of Elodie. “I suppose so,” was the answer he settled on. “Are you?”

Amycus was walking down the halls when he heard someone call out. Normally, he wouldn’t have bothered stopping, but hearing someone ask for help unlocking a door was bordering on ridiculous. “Alohomora,” he muttered lazily, wand movements bordering on sloppy. “Forget that you’re a witch or something?” he asked, tilting his head to the side. “Thought most of us mastered the unlocking charm by now.”
“Damn it, Peeves!” It was no secret that the poltergeist had a thing for pranking Alice, but seeing as it had been while, she thought that perhaps he had finally grown bored of her. Wrong, not even a day back and he had already locked her in a broom closet. “Hello? Could you- could you unlock the door?”

“Did he escape from your common room?” Amycus asked, curious if only because there was a cat wandering around the halls. He took his bag from his shoulder, digging around for a small container he kept for Apollo. Shaking out a few treats, he offered them to the girl. “They’re not meant for cats, but they’re safe for them to it and it might help bring him to you,” he said with a shrug.

How she was able to lose a cat of his size, she would never understand. Nevertheless, Winnie was having to roam the halls, a frown across her lips as she searched for her pet. “Aslan! Come on, boy!” She called out, a heavy sigh escaping her lips as she ran her hands through her hair. “You haven’t seen my cat have you? Bright orange, fairly huge and probably lying on the floor somewhere. He’s extremely lazy.” She asked the person next to her, frown growing.

Amycus slid into the seat next to Jasmin, questioning why exactly he had bothered to show up for the latest dinner party. The food was never good enough to make up for the noise and Slughorn himself, and Amycus would much prefer to be in his dorm now. “How long do you think I have to stay to avoid being too rude?” he asked her, fiddling with his place setting. “Like do you think I could just go now?”

“You will always be a child, Carrow.” Rodolphus taunted the other boy. Not just because it was simply fun; having had grown up around the other, he couldn’t help but still see Amycus as that little kid. “Another Nott? I’m not sure whether I should be congratulating you or giving you my condolences. All I can hope for is that she’s not like that older Nott.” He added, still bitter about the revelation of Bellatrix and Stefan’s relationship. Maybe they were friends, but he wasn’t willing to believe it. “Of course I can. It’s fun trying to get you all flustered and annoyed.”
Amycus didn’t bother to hide his eye roll, not particularly fond of being referred to as a child. “That make you an old man, then?” he asked, irritation coloring his words. All he had wanted was to read a bit further in his book, but that was too much to ask. “No need for condolences,” he snapped, unsure of why Rodolphus’s words seemed to strike a nerve. “Elodie is-she’s nice,” he settled on finally, unsure of how else to put it. “You’re a dick, Rod,” Amycus replied, wondering if he turned his attention back to his book if Rodolphus would go away.

She stared up at him for a moment, an easy smile on her face as she heard how soft the tone of his voice was. “Well, then, those things are just for you.” Elodie bit her lip, a blush coloring her cheeks. “Yeah…I guess this is just for us too.” Despite knowing that they never would have begun spending time together if it wasn’t for their betrothal, it still felt as though it was their choice to spend their time together. “This and reading,” she said with an awkward giggle.
He wondered if his parents realized what they were doing when they betrothed him to Elodie. He doubted that they gave it much thought past her last name, but sitting here, the quiet between them comfortable, he couldn’t help but think that there wasn’t anyone better suited for him. Elodie was everything he could have hoped for, and the sight of her cheeks coloring caused a smile to pull at his lips. “I don’t have any complaints about either,” he said, voice soft. “Maybe over the Easter holidays I can show you the Carrow family library?”

“Just a paper,” she repeated with a chuckle, reading what little she could of it before she heard his question. Elodie looked up at him, realizing how close she’d gotten to him while trying to read his paper. “Um…” Tucking her hair behind her ear and backing up a bit, she looked down. “I like drawing and it calms me down, but Healing is what I want to do. Drawing is more for me, I guess?” She cleared her throat and looked up at him again. “Do you have something that’s…just for you?”
He watched her carefully as she moved closer to read what he was writing-and felt a pang as she moved back to a more appropriate space between them. He wondered, idly, if when she wasn’t busy drawing, if he’d be able to get her to link her fingers with his own. “That makes complete sense,” he said softly. Amycus shrugged at her question, “I dunno, really. I don’t do much besides read and spend time with the magical creatures for class.” He paused, then added, “And I guess, this, now, too,” he said, offering her a smile.

Amycus looked up from where he was petting Apollo, the niffler happy to be back at Hogwarts where there more corners to explore to find something shiny. He shrugged at Antonin, uncomfortable with small talk and discussing himself. “Break was standard,” he said without much interest. “I imagine it wasn’t much different than yours.”
@finestra-starters
“dinner parties, betrothals, festivals, and family. kind of glad to be back at hogwarts after the break that i just had. how was your break? do anything interesting?” he asked boredly, just looking something to do. maybe the poor person who had the misfortune of speaking to him would be interesting. though he highly doubted so.

It had only been a few days since Stefan was taken to Azkaban, and their family was keeping it under wraps so as to not hurt their reputation. But not being able to talk to anyone about it was an emotional strain. She surprised herself when she reached out to Amycus–not to talk, but for the comfort that their mutual silence granted them. She was a bit startled when he spoke, not realizing how long they’d been sitting there silently as she sketched. Elodie looked up at him, momentarily distracted from her drawing. “O-Oh, thank you.” She smiled softly, trying to look over at what he was doing. “What are you working on?”
Amycus knew he could have done much worse than Elodie-knew that logically, a girl as nice as her would have never looked at him twice without the betrothal in place. Doing anything to damage it would mean fall out from his father, but also, Amycus couldn’t bring himself to do anything to jeopardize it. He liked the quiet hours he passed with Elodie, liked her shy smile on the rare occasions he did something to earn it. “Just a paper for class,” he said with a shrug, not interested in his own work as he looked at her parchment. “Is this-is art what you want to do when you finish school?”

“You’re betrothed now?” Rodolphus asked, looking over at the other curiously. “Look at you, becoming an adult. Who’s the lucky- or the unlucky girl? Anyone I’d know?” He questioned Amycus. In all fairness, he was genuinely surprised that Amycus had not gottten betrothed sooner than that- after all, his sister and Rod’s brother were betrothed for years. “Now, this isn’t about me.”
Amycus rolled his eyes slightly. “Just because I’m younger than you doesn’t mean i’m a child,” he told his housemate. “And my father has decided I’m to marry Elodie Nott.” Amycus shrugged, fingering his book. He wasn’t sure who was the lucky one in the match-both families were were equally as important in the right circles, and they seemed to get along well enough so far. Elodie was pretty, and Amycus couldn’t help but wonder if he was the one who lucked out. “You can’t expect me to do all the talking,” he complained, already longing to have his face buried in his book once more.

“Ouch, I’m almost hurt.” Corban rolled his eyes, “Well, what’s off limits? Because I’m itching to mess with some of these mudbloods.”
Amycus hummed. He usually wasn’t one to misbehave-not because of a sense of right and wrong, more because he just couldn’t be bothered normally-but the party left an itching under his skin, a need to do something more engaging. “Sure,” he agreed, “though that seems a bit neanderthal-no creativity in that mind of yours?” he mocked, if only to instigate something bigger to keep him occupied.

all of these betrothals seem to be going sour. who are you watching the most intently?
The only one I currently see working out are Rod & Bella, Amy & Elodie. So while I will be rooting for them, I will be watching all the rest more because there’s where the drama will be.

He could admit to himself at this point that he looked for excuses to spend time with Elodie. Their betrothal was still new, but he found himself enjoying the moments they had together. Currently the two were sitting close enough together at a table in the library that he was attempting to sneak peaks at what she was drawing. “You’re very talented,” he said finally.
