whenever i start to have byler doubt, here are some things i like to remember:
the duffer brothers also created i am not okay with this, which features a wlw couple (where one half of the couple starts off with a boyfriend).
leigh janiak, the director of fear street, was married to ross duffer up until 2024. it has been confirmed that elements of fear street borrowed ideas from stranger things.
not only that, but the overarching story in fear street is of sarah fier, a woman who we are lead to believe was executed in 1666 for practicing witchcraft and starting the curse that runs through the entire trilogy. however, we eventually learn that sarah was actually executed because she fell in love with and was ultimately caught with another girl from the village, hannah miller. to save hannah, sarah falsely confesses to practicing witchcraft. this decision is what informs the rest of the story.
to continue with the point about fear street borrowing from stranger things, two of the most primary characters featured in the trilogy are a wlw couple, deena and sam (who just so happen to be ancestors of sarah and hannah). a large chunk of the plot is dedicated to sam being possessed and deena doing anything she can to free her from said possession, which she ultimately does - by using her love for sam. sure does sound like another "not canon" couple from stranger things, huh? (mind you, sam has a boyfriend at one point, but she is actually in love with deena. they DO end up together by the end of the trilogy).
for years, millie bobby brown was pretty much the #1 mlvn shipper on the cast. as of the last time she was asked (2023, i believe), she said her favorite ship is byler. supposedly, she is one of the only cast members who knows how the show ends.
when asked what his favorite scene to film in s4 was, finn wolfhard's (without prompting or pushing, despite what mlvns like to say) answer was the van scene.
finn wolfhard also said he "didn't understand how he [mike] can't see what's right in front of his face" and that the duffer brothers told him "it would pay off" (about the van scene).
yet again, from finn wolfhard: at the panel in france, he slipped up and said mileven are together "at the beginning" of season 5. this clearly implies they are not together past that.
the stranger writers once posted a tweet asking for questions that they would only answer incorrectly. when asked "do you believe in love at first sight" they answered "no." this directly contradicts the narrative that mlvn supposedly experienced love at first sight.
noah schnapp is a huge byler shipper, as we all know. if byler isn't going to be canon and will's love will be unrequited, why would he be so giddy about it all the time? why would he constantly talk about it? and most of all, why would he say will is going to have a happy ending - why would he say that something will go right for him?
on the track of noah schnapp, he has said numerous things to indicate byler will be canon. from "you aren't supposed to be able to tell if their [mike & will] relationship is romantic or just a really good friendship" to "they're building byler up, so definitely ship that" - noah is constantly dropping not-so-subtle hints that byler will be endgame. and why would a gay man who spent years closeted do that if the ending for the character HE admitted helped him find the strength & comfort to come out is him ending up alone, his love unrequited?
multiple sources have confirmed that most of will and mike's interactions in s5 are with each other.
the duffer brothers have stated many times that nothing - NOTHING - they do in stranger things is done without purpose. every detail is specific and particular.
even the rest of the cast at large have made byler-directed comments. gaten matarazzo saying "we pick up with mike going to visit his friend will in california...and eleven, who lives with them" to david harbour giggling with finn wolfhard while saying "will likes someone else in the group. you'll see soon."
there is also, of course, the sheer amount of things in the show itself that make no sense without the context of byler being canon. there are so many that i don't even have the space or time to list them here, but a big one is that byler's scenes would feel completely out of place between any other two male characters with a strong platonic bond. steve and dustin, jonathan and argyle, mike/will and lucas or dustin, lucas and dustin...etc. it wouldn't feel right for them to interact the way byler does, would it? if lucas called dustin the heart, would it not seem odd? mike and will are the only male characters to interact with each other the way they do, which also indicates feelings from mike's side - because their interactions are balanced. they don't seem one-sided on will's end whatsoever.
the cast, creators, and pretty much everyone associated with stranger things constantly talk about how the show is made for outcasts. the bullied, the people society ostracizes for being different. a show that already has a canon lesbian character. do you really think it's revolutionary to have a queer boy have an unrequited crush on his best friend? do you really, genuinely, believe this would go along with the general theme of the show being for the outcasted?
there is so much more, but overall: byler not being canon is simply bad storytelling. it won't just be queerbaiting, it will be genuinely terrible writing. a guy becomes detached and kind of mean to his friends, especially his self-proclaimed "best friend" for...a random girl he found in the woods? who he was more on board with then anyone to send her "back where she came from", that being a psych ward? a girl he found while looking for said best friend?

Both of the scripts for ST Season 1 and Season 2 will be released on September 2.

But the scripts for ST Season 3 and Season 4 will be released much later — after the release of ST 5 Volume 1 — on December 9.

In conclusion, ST 5 Volume 1 HAS to be at least AS GAY as ST 3 and 4,
if not GAYER.
I’m 99% convinced the reason for this delay is because it’s a giveaway for Byler endgame, as in they’re literally at risk of revealing the plot twist that it’ll be with these scripts. Aaa.
Bylers, I think we finally, finally won. And this is part of the answer. Spread the word! Oh, God. I’m definitely gonna sob into my pillow tonight.
