Multimedia Journal Summary
I learned a lot about different cultures, backgrounds, and lifestyles while writing my blog posts. It was interesting to learn about how Malcom X and everything he went through to become such a public figure for activism. I also found it interesting to learn all about different cultural websites and films. I liked seeing how there was a different journey in the rise to power for each person I chose to write about. Each film or television show that I wrote about had diverse cultural perspectives, experiences, and ideas when genuinely included it can contribute to a more nuanced understanding of societal issues and the development of more effective solutions.

I chose to write about the National Museum of African American History and Culture: The Coming of freedom Celebrating Juneteenth. Juneteenth also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It specifically marks the day June 19th, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas and announced General order No.3, informing the people of Texas that all the enslaved people were free. This order was based on the Emancipation Proclamation, which President Abraham Lincoln had issued on January 1st, 1863, but its news had not yet reached all enslaved people in Confederate states. While the Emancipation Proclamation declared that all enslaved people in confederate states were free, it wasn't immediately effective in all areas, especially those still controlled by the Confederacy. The delay in informing the enslaved people of Texas about their freedom highlights the challenges of communication and control during the Civil War. General Granger's arrival in Galveston and the subsequent reading of General Order No.3 on June 19th, 1865, marked a crucial moment in the practical end of slavery in Texas. The first Juneteenth celebrations began in Texas in 1866 and have continued ever since, evolving from local gatherings to broader national commemorations. Juneteenth was first recognized as a state holiday in Texas in 1980 and became a federal holiday in 2021. Juneteenth is a time for African Americans to reflect on the history of slavery, celebrate their freedom, and acknowledge the ongoing struggle for equality and justice. Celebrations often involve cultural exchange, with people from various backgrounds participating in educational events, food festivals, music, and storytelling highlighting the richness and diversity of Black culture. Many Latinos also celebrate Juneteenth, recognizing the shared struggle for freedom and equality, and participating in cultural exchange and dialogue about social justice. By celebrating Juneteenth, communities can foster a deeper understanding of each other's histories and experiences, building bridges of solidarity and promoting a more exclusive society. Juneteenth is an opportunity to acknowledge the diverse contributions of all Americans to the nation's history and culture. The way this tie into my culture and historic background is my great ancestors were slaves and actual lived throw slavery. If it was not for them and fighting for freedom and civil rights. Who knows what the world would be like for all of us. The thing about Juneteenth is everyone seems to celebrate. This marks a great day in the history of man.

Multimedia Journal Film
For my multimedia film I chose Malcom X. The film came out in 1992 it was directed by Spike Lee. It stars Denzel Washington, Angela Bassett and many others. Malcom X is based off of true-life events. The film showcases Malcom's journey from a young man experiencing the impact of racism in America to a leader in the nation of Islam advocating for Black nationalism and separation, and finally to his later embrace of a more universal approach to racial unity after his pilgrimage to Mecca. This transformation is central to the film's message about the potential for change in individuals and the possibility of transcending previous divisions. A pivotal moment in the film is Malcom X's pilgrimage to Mecca. During this experience, Malcom witnesses Muslims of all colors and backgrounds worshiping together. The experience challenges his earlier separatist ideologies and leads him to believe in the possibility of racial brotherhood. He comes to believe that all men can be brothers regardless of race. After the pilgrimage Malcom X becomes alienated from the nation of Islam due to their ridged and racially exclusive ideologies, which clash with his newfound understanding of Islam's universal message. It shows how Malcom moves toward a broader vision of human unity rather than an oppositional stance towards racial unity. The film doesn't shy away from depicting the harsh realities of racism and the fight for racial justice in America. It portrays Malcom's experiences with systemic racism, police brutality, and the violence of the KKK. This depiction highlights the need to address these issues and work towards a more equitable and inclusive society where all individuals are respected and valued. It also shows Malcom's assassination in 1965. The film's impact is further highlighted by its ability to provoke discussion about racial issues and encourage audiences to engage with complexities of Malcom X's ideas. This fosters dialogue about the importance of understanding and respecting diverse cultures and perspectives, a key aspect of multiculturalism. In essence the film Malcom X contributes to a broader understanding of multiculturalism by portraying the evolution of Malcom X's thought process. Illustrating how an individual can move from deeply ingrained prejudices towards a vision of universal human connection, emphasizing the importance of respecting all human beings regardless of their color. My connection with this film comes from culturally / background as African American man in today society. What this film represented to the black community is iconic. Malcom X is still revered until this day in the world, not only in the black community. The struggle that some still face all over the world when it comes to religion /racism he is a hero and gave me something to be proud of.

Multimedia Journal Post (Television)
My Post (Television) show I chose is Queen of the South. The show is a crime drama series. The show is about the rise of a poor Mexican woman who becomes a powerful drug lord. She navigates the dangerous world of drug trafficking, betrayal, violence and the constant threat of being caught. The series is centered around Teresa's journey from escaping her boyfriend's murder in Mexico to building her own empire in the United States. The series was directed by MA Fortin and Joshua John Miller. The main character in the series is Alice Braga who plays Teresa Mendoza. I believe that this series correlates with what we have been learning about in class. It has culture immersion. It explores the culture and style of the drug trade in Europe, Mexico and the United States. In class we are also learning about different cultures. The series also ties in with cultural exchange and blending. It creates a dynamic where Mexican culture intersects with American culture. In the series you also see a blend of traditions, different languages and values as different characters from different background interact and merge their lives and operations. It explores the world of Narco-Culture. While this lifestyle is dangerous it is a distinct cultural expression shaped by distinct cultural expression shaped by specific societal conditions and regional influences. We have also discussed immigration in class and the series showcases Immigration and Assimilation or the lack thereof. Teresa is a Mexican immigrant who goes to the United States. It highlights the experiences of individuals navigating new cultural landscapes. It examines the challenges and opportunities that arise when people from one culture adapt or chose not to adapt to another. The series also has a diverse cast of characters from all different cultures and backgrounds representing various ethnicities. With everything we have been learning about in class I believe that this series represents a lot of it. With the different cultures and the blending as well as the immigration and diverse cast I feel that it the series ties in with and represents the multiculturalism that has class has been about. I have also seen the series, and it is a good one to watch. Reflecting critically on my own cultural identity and background and personal history at one time in my life I was very involved in the distribution of narcotics. In my teenage years my family was very involved in the sale of drugs and firearms. This is no longer the case because the majority of my family as well as myself was incarcerated as a result of these activities. I have turned my life completely around and I now only engage in law - abiding behavior. This Television show is very relatable to me because of firsthand experience of the content of the show.
