sometimes you'll see a bird for the first time and when you look it up you learn that its name is the Common Dirt Bitch and its range is Everywhere and there are 400 million of them in your state alone

That post about death note being "everyone's first anime" (untrue statement) made me curious and now I want to gather data for science
Can you reblog this and tell me where are you from and what was your starter anime?

This is why i always tell people to question their motivations when they talk/ask about reconnecting, because if your first thought or action upon saying that you are "reconnecting" with alleged Native ancestry is to start calling yourself "twospirit" then I'm not sure reconnection was your initial goal here. It seems like you feel special if you get to use that specific term, and you think claiming Indigenous identity would give you a free pass to use it.
And if you had to essentially ask a random ndn on tumblr for permission to reconnect or use a cultural term on anonymous, then what do you think the answer is, if you had to ask?
#I know this road is super tricky for folks who are trying to reconnect because it can be so fraught with a sense of unworthiness and shame#it's easy to get discouraged because you're worried you're violating a space or taking advantage of a group of people for your own wants#wanting to reconnect with an ancestral culture is not an inherently violating or selfish thing#but it's so important for people to reconnect for the right reasons#if you're doing it for some kind of clout that means you're doing it for the wrong reasons#these journeys are deeply personal and impactful and its difficult because its a reckoning you're putting yourself through#if you're reconnecting because you wanna wear the outfits or use the words then that's surface-level stuff and you need to dig deeper
