BBGM GM Simulation Part 2 (UTA)
Basketball is a complex sport. To successfully manage and build a franchise is an task that requires the following:
- Advance knowledge about metrics from PPG to VORP.
- Managing contracts, ticket prices and budgeting.
- Knowing when, who, and why to trade.
The Utah Jazz is the smallest market in the NBA, with an estimated population of 1.2 million. Due to this fact, extremely difficult to turn a profit, and is rarely a popular free agent destination.
To subvert all expectations and create a dynasty from nothing in Utah is the goal. Here are the steps.
The draft one of the best times to stock on players and picks.
This year, the lottery was quite generous, with the Jazz landing the 3rd overall pick.
Draft Targets
With a pick as high as the 3rd, team's tend to gain massive leverage on the trading block. I took advantage of this by conducting a 3 team trade between the Utah Jazz, the Sacramento Kings, and Boston Celtics.
With the 5th and 12th picks, the Jazz select Anthony Hahn, and Jon Frank respectively.
Frank however, would never step onto a Jazz court, as he would be traded for Asa White, Henry Painter, and 2 SRPs.
White would soon have a breakout season with the Jazz, going from 8.8 PPG to 14.4 PPG; he netted 6.2 WS by the end of the 23'-24' season.
The 23'-24' season was the first season we were contending. The regular season was a massive success, as the Jazz earned a 45-37 record, the 6th seed in a tightly packed Western Conference.

Just like that, a season riddled with injury comes to a disappointing halt. Our core was still young, and needed time to develop. The team is banking on Asa's and Hahn's rise to an all star caliber player.

BBGM GM Simulation (UTA)
Basketball is a complex sport. To successfully manage and build a franchise is an task that requires the following:
- Advance knowledge about metrics from PPG to VORP.
- Managing contracts, ticket prices and budgeting.
- Knowing when, who, and why to trade.
The Utah Jazz is the smallest market in the NBA, with an estimated population of 1.2 million. Due to this fact, extremely difficult to turn a profit, and is rarely a popular free agent destination.
To subvert all expectations and create a dynasty from nothing in Utah is the goal. Here are the steps.
Here are the rosters and the standings. This team was poorly built mainly due to the fact the team was headlined by rookie foward Josh Foreman. Josh, being a rookie, was severely offensively limited, and couldn't lead a team at this point in his career. There was also a distinct lack of a point guard, with 30 year old Michael Jenkins taking the brunt of the playmaking duties.
First Game
In the first game of the season, the Jazz steal a win from the Bulls 126-94. Zach Pack went off for 22/7/4 on a scorching hot 8/13 shooting. I was still weary as Pack was shooting on unsustainable splits while only scoring 22 points.
Week 1 Standings
Unfortunately, I hit the nail on the head. The Utah Jazz went on to go 0-5 for the rest of the week, ending up with an abysmal 1-6 record.
The second week went just as well as expected, obtaining a record of 2-14.
Trade #1
This trade saw Lithuanian sharpshooter Deividas Valeika join the Utah Jazz in exchange for Jon Daniel, Julius Thrower, and a 2028 SRP. In 18 games with the Detroit Pistons (13 starts), Valeika averaged 8.2/1.9/2.9 on 42.9/43.9/86.2 splits. His true shooting in his time with the Pistons was 57.8%.
Trade Deadline
The Utah Jazz were 15-34.
Trade #2
This trade landed John Coleman in Utah, a volume scoring big into the Salt Lake area. Once he landed, his production shot up from 8.4 PPG to 15.4 PPG. His role was increased from a 3rd string big man into a starter. While his production was greatly valuable, his true upside came in the form of his contract. 3 years 2.82M for 15.4 PPG.
All Star Games!
This is your rest stop on this post. :)
Playoff Picture
The Utah Jazz missed both the playoffs and the play ins. We'll be back soon hopefully.
The best team in the league at that point were the Minnesota Timberwolves, posting a record of 67-15. While the team played good basketball and was strucurally sound, it should be noted that the 2 best players are unwilling to resign with the team dispite the record. They went on to win the championship against the Hawks in 7 games.
