^^^^^^^^^ Please use them! If there is reason to have them then the Library will continue to get funding to provide it. If no one uses it we literally get rid of it. Please please please use what your library offers! If so we will just get other cool options for resources to invest in.
"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.
It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).
Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.
One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.
*Yes, this is a blog post, but it's a blog post filled with links to news articles. If you can click one link, you can click another.

Whoever invented "open in app" links that redirect you to the app store instead of actually opening the app even when you already have the app installed on your phone should be involuntarily turned into a beanbag chair

Can't you see they're so in love. It's obvious how in love they are. OMG JUST GET MARRIED ALREADY.
Me An Aroace Intellect: Idk guys I just feel like reducing their bond to only a romantic relationship or attempting to label it at all completely counteracts the point of their bond in the first place but idk maybe that's just me.

before you reach out to someone you miss, remember why they’re not there anymore. understand the possible consequences of reopening that door. it’s easy to impulsively run back to something that feels so familiar. but not every door is worth reopening.
