May 31…..this morning I woke up with a sore throat!! We all freaked out because we had to go for our Covid tests at 10:00. I took one of the home tests I brought and it was negative but we were still worried that maybe it was false. After breakfast we walked over to the test place and got tested then had to wait about a 1/2 hour for them to email us the results. We are all negative!!!! So to celebrate we took a long walk to the big central market here and shopped around. After walking back to the hotel we decided to go to our favorite restaurant called “Red Pepper”. After a delicious lunch we spent the next hour uploading all the crap required by our airline. Then we went to the baths. Pics above. It was kind of creepy and we didn’t stay long. Tomorrow we fly home, sad but glad. Miss you all.😘😘

This is the Dohany Synagogue which was in the middle of the Ghetto during WW2. It originally had a garden in the center but during the war the Jews had no place to bury the dead so they used the garden. After the war all the graves were exhumed and the bodies moved but during exhumation they found 2 mass grave sites. Because they could only guess who these people were, they placed plaques around the garden with names to commemorate those who died. This tree above is a memorial to all of them and each leaf has a name on it.

The most delicious ham & cheese sandwich I’ve ever had. It’s called a croque monsieur. My spelling might be off.

May 30…. We didn’t realize that today was Memorial Day at home. Happy holiday everyone!! We had a tour of the Jewish quarter and 3 synagogues today. The guide was difficult to understand and we think she had a cold so we tried to stay away from her and wore our masks. We wear them everywhere here because very few people do. On the ship we had to wear them everywhere unless we were eating or drinking. They tested all the passengers that were flying home at the end of the cruise and everyone tested negative. We have to test here at the hotel tomorrow at 10:00am. We had a great lunch and then Charlie came back to the hotel to rest his dogs and the 3 of us went shopping!! Gaylee bought some tennis shoes but no success for Karen or myself. Unless you want a nutcracker or a beer stein or a refrigerator magnet, there’s not much to buy. I guess paprika and chocolate but no one wants to drag it home. See you all soon!!😘

These were bronze shoes placed at the spot where hundreds of Hungarian Jews were taken from their homes and pushed into the river. Only one woman was strong enough to swim underwater to avoid the bullets and made it to the other side.

We walked over to the Buda side and took this funicular up to the palace, which has the National Museum in it. We all were impressed with the collections and the grounds. It was high up above the river and we had beautiful views of the city.

This was lunch today. On the left is stuffed cabbage and on the right is pork schnitzel. Both excellent. It was a small Hungarian restaurant called Red Pepper located off some small square, of which there are hundreds!!!!
