Personal Life: When looking to be sustainable I am not only looking at eco friendly brands, but I also want to try and reduce the number of paper and plastic products I use. These rubber covers can be placed over bowls and contains. I can use these while reheating food in the microwave instead of using paper towels, and when storing food in the fridge instead of using tinfoil or plastic wrap.

Personal Life: Sea2See was founded by François van den Abeele and this company uses 100% recycled plastic from the ocean to make eye ware. Not only can I get optical eye ware through this company, but I can also get sunglasses. This is a great way to not only support the recycling of plastic, but to also encourage ocean clean up! I love sunglasses and cannot wait to order my newest pair form a company that is so eco friendly.

Personal Life: Chester Candle Company is a company that was created right here in my home town. They do more than just make candles. They make organic soaps, lotions, scrubs, and so much more. A way in which this company supports sustainability, and I do to, is that if you buy their candles and bring back the glass jar once it is gone, they will refill the container and give you a discount. This encourages their customers to come back and reuse the gas containers rather than just throwing them away.

Professional Life: Working in a hospital it will be best to have my hair up so it stays out of my way. Hair scrunchies are a great way to not only be sustainable, but to also bring creativity into my outfit. Scrunchies are made from fabrics and elastic while hair ties are made from rubber. By using scrunchies I can cut down my usage of rubber and they will also last much longer than a typical hair tie does. Something fun about this product is that I can also get designs on my scrunchies to bring some smilies to the children's faces!

Professional Life: Working in a hospital everyday disposable latex gloves are something that I will constantly have to be using and changing every time I come in contact with a new patient. GREEN-DEX has created the first ever biodegradable nitrile single-use glove. Although I may not be able to get the entire hospital on board, I can certainly bring them on my own and encourage the people I work with to use them as well.

Personal Life: Seventh Generation is a company that creates toilet paper and other paper products made from 100% recycled paper. They have been a leader in green cleaning for 25 years and I cannot wait to use their products. Toilet paper and paper towels alone are something that I use quite a bit of every day, and this is a huge way I can work on reducing my ecological footprint on this planet.

Professional Life: As a student studying to be a Child Life Specialist I will be using toys throughout my work day to cheer kids up, and to create an interactive way to explain procedures and diagnoses. Green Toys is a company that uses recycled plastic milk jugs to create toys right her in America. Along with that none of their toys are electric so none of them require batteries. This is a fun and unique way I can get children involved in helping the environment as well as supporting it myself!

Personal Life: After one of my pervious posts I got to thinking about how many plastic and cloth bags I use and it made me wonder if there were even more sustainable options. The ReActive Collection by Vera Bradley was just one of the brands I found that used recycled water bottles to create bags. By using these bags, and bags like them, I can take my drive to be sustainable one step further. I can do this by not only reducing my use of plastic, but also by supporting a brand that uses recycled materials.

Personal Life: After looking around Patagonia’s website I was able to find information on the brands goals. Patagonia wants to create products that last for generations, but do not leave an ecological footprint. They do this by making their products out of recycled fabrics and materials. They also want their products to have the ability to become reusable materials when they have seen their final days. Although I am not big into climbing I will definitely look to Patagonia for rain and winter gear.

Personal Life: This Makeup Eraser tool is chemical free and reusable. I go through at least one makeup wipe every day but this towel I can reuse, and when it gets dirty I can throw it in the washer and use it again. This will also keep my skin healthier by not leaving behind any extra makeup or residue form the wipe.

Personal Life: I have been using Tide laundry detergent for years and I have seen this product before but never really looked into it. After doing some research I found out that Tide purclean is the first 75% USDA certified plant-based detergent. Switching over to this detergent will be super easy considering I already love all the products that Tide has made thus far.

Professional Life: Through this link I was able to find multiple different sneaker brands that are eco-friendly. Although a lot of the sneakers at this link are lounge-wear based I found two pairs that I will be able to wear around the hospital while staying comfortable all day! Both Adidas and Nike have shoe designs that are eco friendly, and I have been wearing both brands for years. I cannot wait to try out Adidas + Parley’s recycled plastic based sneakers and Nike Flynit sneakers which uses recycled polyester and plastic!

Professional Life: As I enter into the work force I will be working in a hospital and after doing some research I found a company that makes environmentally friendly scrubs. The fabric that was used to make these scrubs is made out of recycled polyester and plastic bottles! I always wanted to incorporate an environmentally friendly piece of clothing into my wardrobe, and now I will be able to put these scrubs on for work every day knowing I am choosing sustainability!

Personal Life: It is important to look up homemade recipes for cleaning products because many of the products in stores have harmful chemicals. This can also help cut down plastic usage because every time my bottle runs out I can just remake and refill the product! I usually just use water and vinegar (sometimes bleach), but I cannot wait to try out these recipes!
P.S. these ones will smell better than mine :)

Personal Life: I already use metal straw instead of plastic ones and I have a Hydroflask water bottle that I use everyday, but the reusable grocery bag and the wooden utensil stood out to me. As a college student I do all of my own grocery shopping, and the amount of plastic bags I go through is disgraceful. Exchanging those plastic bags for a reusable cloth ones would save so much plastic and I can even store them in my car. Along with that bringing wooden utensils on campus will refrain me from using the plastic ones whenever I eat on campus.
My Favorite Zero-Waste Swaps
Metal/Steel/Glass Straws!!!- As everyone knows, straws impact the environment in a very negative way, so why not make the change? Plus, they’re fairly cheap!
Tumblr media
Cloth Produce Bags- Why take one plastic bag just to wrap up a few veggies or fruits? Cloth Produce Bags are a one time investment, and are way more convenient than grabbing the plastic bag!
Tumblr media
Re-Usable Grocery Bags- These are not the cheapest things in the world, but you can get a pack of three off of Amazon.com for around $30, and again, it’s a one time investment, and one that is way more convenient than making the people at check-out put everything in multiple plastic bags.
Tumblr media
Reusable “Ziplock” Bags- Perfect for freezing fruit in the freezer, putting certain things in the fridge, taking snacks to school, and for storing your other perishable items! Another plus to these- They’re cheap as hell most of the time!
Tumblr media
Metal or Steel Water Bottles- Pretty much everyone has these in their cabinets. There is no reason for all the plastic bottle that are being thrown away everyday, when the Reusable Water Bottles will keep your drink cold/hot for hours at a time, where as plastic will keep your drink cold for a good 1-2 hours? Cut down on all the plastic making it’s way out into the landfills!
Tumblr media
BUYING THINGS IN BULK!!!- This has to be a favorite within the zero-waste community! When you buy things, such as almond butter, pasta sauce, or anything in a glass jar..keep the jar!! You can bring your jars to most health foods stores or most any grocery stores in general and you can buy your items in bulk! None of all that extra waste! Just what you plan on using!
Tumblr media
Bento Boxes/ Non-Plastic Lunch Box- These are a one time investment also! There is absolutely no reason that you should be eating out of PLASTIC containers that you will eventually throw away, these are so much more easier to clean than plastic is, and it is much better for the environment.
Tumblr media
Portable Silver Ware!- There is not a lot to say about this one. Ditch the plastic forks and spoons, instead, take these!

Hope you enjoyed my Zero-Waste Master Post :) I personally love all of these items, they have made such a difference with my life and how conscious I am of how I consume.
