"An American Eagle ad with overtly racist undertones tells us that Sydney Sweeney's jeans are great because they're blue like her eyes. Meanwhile a modern-day holocaust happens on the other side of the globe, with images of emaciated babies delivered direct to our phones while our president sets 500 tons of emergency food aid on fire. And Trump signs an executive order making it legal to forcibly institutionalize, detain, imprison, intern, (choose your verb), anyone the regime determines is mentally ill"
- Leeja Miller "The Eugenics Of It All"
"We love to treat it like these are separate things... like there's identity politics and then there's economic politics. Like there's the economy and then there's culture, right? But from a standpoint of understanding anything about disability, anything about disability rights--First and foremost, anybody can become disabled. Anybody can be considered disabled. That's just a reality... In Gaza, bombs are dropped that [amputate] people's limbs. People's limbs are shot by riot police in the United States. People are becoming intentionally disabled. COVID-19, the way that ransacked communities despite the resources being there to prevent that. They can make you disabled."
- elliot sang again "Eugenics: So hot right now"

Meijer, a company with annual revenues estimated between $12.9 billion and $21 billion, recently came under fire after bodycam footage showed the arrest of a sixteen year old disabled deli worker named James for taking discarded food like a fruit cup just to make it through his shifts. Reports reveal that James, who lives with a disability, took only food that was headed for the trash, not merchandise intended for sale. Rather than receive support or understanding, he was targeted by his manager, who allegedly kept a running list of every small item taken until the total exceeded $100, then called the police so James could be fired and arrested instead of warned.
The public reaction has been immediate and widespread, with growing calls for a boycott of Meijer. People are especially outraged that a corporation of such extraordinary wealth would criminalize a disabled teenager for taking food that would have otherwise been wasted. The manager’s choice to compile these incidents over time instead of providing a warning or help highlights a lack of basic empathy and a system that values corporate image above the well being of vulnerable workers.
This controversy now stands as a stark example of the disconnect between bottom line thinking and humanity in the American workplace. Advocates argue that a disabled minor should never be humiliated and prosecuted for something so small, especially when executives at the top continue to benefit from the company’s billions. The growing boycott movement reflects a demand for fairness, dignity, and fundamental decency for all workers—especially those with disabilities.

If you’re butch, your body is butch. Your boobs are butch, your hips are butch, your narrow shoulders or short stature are butch. Butchness does not have to be about passing as a man or achieving that lanky teen boy androgyny that’s pushed on us. Just being as we are is butch. It’s about us making and taking our space in the world, not fitting into a narrow standard of masculinity.

To put it bluntly, the only way to end homelessness is to house people or kill them.
That's it. Those are your options. Homelessness doesn't go away based on "crime crackdowns." You will imprison the unhoused, and when they are free, they will be unhoused again. Or they will die in prison.
When you burn encampments or force people out without their stuff, they remain unhoused or freeze to death.
After working with the unhoused, it's become abundantly clear that those who don't want to support them instead want them dead.
There is blood on the hands of every government and organization that controls the homeless population with force instead of compassion.
