I’ve been working on some Frankie stuff, no new TT yet while that’s going. There’s been a new Endtown though! Let’s see what Terry has to say or what the anthros around him think about this whole situation, especially since a good amount of the people in Eden are supposed to be transformed Topsiders themselves-

This moment is so out of field because Duffy never actually was connected to Chic emotionally except to use as a means to get to his real goal (Benny) but the story has gone on for so long it’s basically forgotten the nazar was emotionally important to CHIC and was just some weird thing Chic passed to Duffy as far as he’s concerned.

Which at the time still didn’t make sense because Kirbee gave that to Chic to keep him safe from ‘haints’ and that’s where the emotional connection actually stemmed but whatever. Duffy and Chic hug! Feel good NOW! Never reference Benny or think about the fact some invisible person kidnapped him or what happened to him ever again, he is DEAD and Chic is his new brother!

What do you mean someone almost kidnapped Chic in the same fashion-? Stop thinking!

Speaking of not thinking, I checked the comment replies and that Cheapskate asshole couldn’t help but be a nasty rat yet again on behalf of the comic.

Idiot doesn’t understand time moves differently in a story versus real life. The characters changing so much in what can’t be more than two or three days is a bit stark compared to what the story expects people to remember (and what to forget, more importantly).

Late night thought but I was thinking about Endtown and Dino mutants. In Endtown the answer for why they exist is ‘lmao cartoon’ but for Topside Tales I’ve been leaning more on the fact animals were disappearing and the mutations started as a connection.

So why dinosaurs? Ever seen Jurassic Park? In this retro-future inspired setting with flying cars and laser guns you mean to tell me NOBODY cloned or made dinosaurs?

I should probably write my thoughts more as I post here given threads are monthly instead of weekly, gives insight into my process and all as I chug along with updates. I like Tumblr lets me post multiple gifs to supplement my infinite ramble.

I entertained the idea of showing only the aftermath of Burbank speaking to the topside crews about the brain harvesting Topsiders did for their tech. I decided against skipping the actual reveal because showing the reactions of these people trying to survive is a good contrast to casually showing off Bernard and Maria finding the lost truck and dittos only pages prior.

Topside Tales has a lot of dramatic irony in that the audience knows what’s going on before the characters, I realize I like clueing in the audience and winking at them while the characters hem and haw over something someone else knows but has no means to share. Maybe it’s because it contrasts Endtown where it perpetually keeps people in the dark about silly things like character motivation or what the fuck happened to Benny (yes I am STILL on that) until the last second where it cheesily tries jumpscaring you with a giant eyeball.

Eye aside, I wanted to die drawing that big room shot of all the anthros listening to Burbank, I hated myself a lot for making it. After the fact I’m glad I did because composition wise it breaks up all the shots I’m doing and grounds the audience to the space a bit more.

Finally, uhhhh sometimes I wonder if I’m making Dr. Burbank too perfect or nice given he isn’t as shitty as many many many MANY other people in Endtown or Topside Tales but then I remember that not everyone in the world is a miserable amoral piece of shit and that sets me back to being relaxed again. I can have good people just…exist! Wow! Being a writer is so damn amazing.

Endtown on Twitter?

I dunno if it's me or not but searching for Endtown on Twitter doesn't pull any results now. I used to be able to find tweets mentioning it, even if they were old, but the entire history of it is just inaccessible or wholesale gone now. I usually check in now and then, mostly to see if there's any chatter about the comic or some status update. Very rarely I get treated to a new viewpoint about it but it's always fun to see.

Man the threads really don’t live long anymore, do they? Not that I’m that surprised, the hanger ons have been dwindling down as of late and content has been extraordinarily thin. I’m not really helping in that regard either!

So what’s up for me? I overwhelmed myself promising too much and overloaded (unsurprisingly) which gave me a big fat mental block. Add a dash of disappointment over Alan’s whole turnout. Top that off with Baldur’s Gate 3 being right there to eat up my free time and you have a perfect recipe for good old CA being distracted with something consistently.

This newest update really is some shit though. I shouldn’t be at all surprised Eye is still around (in fact in the threads I brought up how Eye was frozen in Eden when Marx was doing timestop bullshit a few years ago when Wally died earlier on) but I guess a part of me WAS surprised because I assumed Aaron was going to drop it and quietly kick it under the rug. Guess not.

This doesn’t mean I’m exactly happy with Eye reappearing, you’d think with all that nonsense grandstanding Marx did disparaging Eye that we’d be free of it and face the real villain of the story now. Maybe he couldn’t think of anything to fill that void? El oh el.

I miss TT, I think I’ll binge through it and see if I can muster up some updoots. We’ll see!
