" well, i'm glad to be of service, always makes a girl feel good to help a guy out, " anna laughs softly, brushing a stray curl away from her face before reaching out and wrapping her hand around his with a shake, feeling impossibly formal, but also finding it kind of sweet.

anna finds herself watching maximus with a curious smile as he skims over the menu with a careful eye, like its more thoughtful than just buying a treat and a cup of coffee or maybe he's just a thoughtful guy, she reminds herself she just met him ten minutes ago, " i'll be waiting diligently with high hopes. "

" well, it's lucky we ran into each other then, " anna grinned still, dimples peeking out " like i said i'm pretty much here all the time, at least that's what it feels like most days. i'm anna by the way, it's nice to meet you "

she had already made up her mind about what she was going to order pretty much after she spotted the blueberry cheesecake cookie, but she figured it would be easy to wait until he seemed to figure out what he would like, " you're definitely right there and definitely the opposite of my order, well great! hopefully it lives up to expectations. "

she's not had a lot of friends really, sure she had some study buddies and roomies during school, but she never really let herself get attached to anybody and maybe it was easier, but maybe it was her own leftover fears that kept her away. it's why rapunzel had become so special to her in such a short time. the blonde was the first friend she had let herself grow close too in what felt like ages. she's also the comforting her on one of the few occassions she's wanted to make friends again.

" me neither, maybe they're just not brownie people ? i guess not everyone's into chocolate ? " anna offered up, thinking for a moment, " just two other times; i made a batch of cupcakes and then these m&m cookies my mom used to make. "

maybe that's the one that had really upset her because when she was little ? her mama's m&m cookies seemed to fix everything .. well not everything but close to. she had truly believed that would be the one to break the ice and sure one or two had been taken from the dozen, but it still felt like .. like not enough again. a smile touched her face once more, dimples just starting to curve her cheeks, " i really really appreciate it, my mom used to let me help her sometimes, though i think it was just to be nice. "

the thought really hadn't even seemed to cross her mind, " do you think i should bring in like fresh fruit or .. or i saw a recipe for strawberry shortcake online or is that still too sweet, you think ? "

anna doesn't know what to expect as rapunzel reaches for a brownie, taking a small bite, but she doesn't expect anything good .. well it's rapunzel so she'll let her down in the kindest way possible. what she is surprised about is the smile that graces the blonde's features and her following compliments,

" really ? " there's a cautious hope to her words as she reaches forward and breaks off a piece of a brownie, taking a bite and sure they taste good, but that just makes it more confusing and kind of upsetting as to why nobody is taking one, " makes sense i guess, it's not like i have a lot of experience in that area either. are you sure ? i mean i'd really love to, trust me, i just don't want to put you out, you know ? "

she absently twirls her straw around her drink, listening to the clink of ice cubes as she does so, " i know i shouldn't be, it's just hard to practice what you preach, you know ? "

sometimes, it like she can see her own memories, her own feelings reflected back at her from rapunzel's eyes, see a shadow of sadness, sometimes even fear .. it comforts her and then makes her feel guilty for feeling that way. the last thing she wants to do is see the other in pain, " me neither actually, but hey at least they seem happy enough, guess that's what it's all about, huh ? having fun. "

abandoning her grip on her drink, anna rubs a condensation damp hand against the back of her neck, the coolness soothing her further as she offers up a small smile, " i almost cancelled tonight, but i just .. didn't want to be alone with it. "

she doesn't want to project. she knows that their experiences are so different and yet.... they're really not. sure, their paths in life aren't exactly parallel: one's an amazing therapist and the other a princess, but at the end of the day, they're one in the same. just two girls who were given incredible challenges in their childhood, but look where they've come? they've come so far, living life to the fullest despite it all.

she can understand why @cahrson zones out in the bar, even when a group of friends are singing their own version of don't stop believing. she can understand because she's been there, staring off into space and reliving her past despite wanting to focus on other things: her friends, her family...

"don't be sorry," she shakes her head. "i haven't been to many karaoke nights, but something tells me that their rendition is pretty common," she adds with a small laugh, leaning back in her seat. rapunzel pauses, but after a beat she nods her head. "yeah, i think i have felt that before. it can be really overwhelming." ♡.

as if to prove a point, rapunzel reaches out and takes one of the brownies on the plate, taking a small bite of it. immediately, a smile grows upon her lips. "this is the best brownie i've ever had in my entire life," she says. and that's saying something, because for a really long time, the only brownies she'd ever eaten were ones that she made - and she's not above admitting she's a great baker. but these, made by @cahrson with so much love and care? incredible. "i don't think you're doing anything wrong, anna. i think sometimes people are just afraid to make new friends," she thinks out loud. she can understand it, to an extent; that doesn't mean they can't try anna's delicious brownies! "tell you what, we'll have a baking night. we can bake anything you want, and you can bring it all in tomorrow. i highly doubt anyone will see a buffet style tray of baked goods and refuse them. but only if you want to." ♡.
