lavinahudson:
It was hard to say how L was feeling, and it had been that way for quite some time now. After the war, she felt numb, and angry, and scared, for a long time. Now, she was getting better at using her art as an outlet, as she used to do. This meant that she was always about, always going, never home, or when she was, she was hardly lying around the cabin. When she woke up, it was hard to get out of bed sometimes, but getting into the hustle and bustle of the day set her right back on track.
People were a good outlet too. Blue and Rosie kept L occupied with their antics, and the way that they were fun but scary kept her both on her toes and excited for what was to come. However, once it came time for her to go back to her cabin, she had to admit that it was somewhat lonely, with most of her siblings gone, whether for good or for school, and so she tried to avoid being in there alone for tong periods of time.
The animals helped with this; she had friends that came and went, depended on her, and who were large comforts to her when she wasn’t feeling up to much of anything. Of course, only a few animals actually lived in the cabin; two dogs, and a few cats that she was fairly sure lived in another cabin half the time. Yet, pets, though she loved them, were not the same as siblings.
So when L unlocked the door and opened it, thinking that Blue or Rosie wanted to hang out; or that someone was telling her to get to the infirmary, she almost screamed out in excitement. She practically jumped the few feet forward and wrapped around her brother so tightly that, had she been any stronger, she might have broken his ribs. “Caine! Caine! Oh my gods! Caine!” She found herself able to say little more than her brother’s name, and just held him tightly, glad to have him back.
In some ways, Caine was glad he at times looked toward things less than positively at times.  Though, that may have simply been because he managed to not expect the flying ball of L that quickly latched ontop him and all too quickly a warmth seeped into his skin, muscles, and pretty much every fiber of his being as he wrapped his own arms around L, swallowing down any comment he had about how hard she was squeezing him around ribs bruised from an earlier battle.  Everything felt all that much better in that moment with L’s welcome, a warm smile plastered across his face and blue eyes bright his happiness and seeing his closest friend and sister. “There’s my, L.”  He said excitedly while feigning lack of air to tease her, “Be careful... I might think you missed me or something.”  It was weak and obvious teasing as he offered just as tight of a bear hug in return after he leaned in enough so he could lift L with the embrace momentarily before setting her back down and just allowing them to take the moment.
“I’m glad you were here... Last thing I needed was you finding out I didn’t say ‘Hi’ first.”  Caine added warmly, knowing full well L wouldn’t have probably been mad, but as a sibling, it just wouldn’t do to admit just how much he’d missed having his partner in art and fighting imaginary crime.

It was strange and rare to feel the way Caine did, sure he was filled with apprehension and the worry he always was when it came to returning to the cabin but for once he wasn’t feeling particular numb or even down regarding what it meant to be back.  It was especially odd when it involved the occasions like these when he didn’t have the greatest excuses for why he left.  Sure, he was talented at fighting, but by nature he’d always had to run whether it was for his life, away from pain, away from the dreams and visions he’d give anything to control.  But, there was no running from this.  He liked to think in those darkest moments he was alone, but that had never been close to true, it’s impossible to be in the dark when you’ve spent most of your life surrounded by the other children of the Sun.  Above all, he could never run away from the way he hurt the friends  that did worry about him and much like now, he could never really take back not even leaving much of a goodbye for the sibling that, well, he couldn’t really deny that he favored.
He’d wandered through Camp, mostly taking the paths that avoided  most foot traffic as he always had.  However, his lips twitched into a smirk every so often, he couldn’t help it.  It had been so long since he’d taken the dangerous gamble of spending time with his Mom to truly be back home, but deep down he knew he’d never truly been able to call it that. His Mother had always let him feel safe, she’d actually given him as normal and loving as a childhood as you could have when you seemingly kept having seizure, vivid dreams, and creepily drawing the next big catastrophe that tried to kill him or others.  Sure, there’d been brief visits whenever he ran away from Camp but they were never back at the house that had once been the haven that Camp was. Despite all the drama that had colored his world in shades he’d never wanted to see his life in, he’d never truly known what it was he craved or hoped to find to make things okay, even if for a little bit.  He’d never considered that after so long, just having the brief few days to fall back into being just Caine.  The Pearson Boy.  The doting from his mom that actually felt right, that he’d forgotten all about. To be honest, he was bombarded by what others wanted and what was to be so much it had become easy to  be complacent about who he actually was and who so few people ever allowed him to be.
Caine knew all too well he had alot to answer for and as always, he knew he had responsibility that returned the moment he crossed into Camp.  Hell, he’d actually managed to walk away from an average hell hound attack on the way here without even getting irritated.  For the first time in a few years, he didn’t want to just curl up by the Lake or hide in his bed.  Right now, he was home and he had a few homecoming gifts to give so he could get back on some certain peoples’ good sides. So, after peering sneakily, into a near window of his cabin, he checked to see if his sister was in there before he made a soft rap at the door, wanting to earn a surprise versus just walking in.  So, he waited while he rummaged through his bag.

Setting Sun
Sunset had begun to bleed and stain the sky in several layers of colors that that mirrored into the lake that Caine didn't sit all that far away from.  However, the awe inspiring sights that the son of Apollo had both seen and sketched a thousand times were trumped as they often were as he fixated in distract as he drew.  His sketch pad filled with several profile interpretations of what one typical camper may of simply looked at and assume the young man was illustrating some sort of bestiary, but on closer inspection they'd have found every single feature, every cameo he altered the angle to was a distorted version of the same sickeningly curved tail or the shaded face of shadowy beast that was nothing more than glistening jaws on the page, the constant characters of Caine's night terrors that he drew in private, or when he felt anxious.
He used a red pencil, marking up blood splatters that always haunted him in the morning-- which was uncharacteristic of him.  Only his drawing of visions ever drew near graphic, but the young artist had never felt compelled to recreate much that fell on the macabre side-- which had only made him show very few, if any living souls of what troubled him in his private moments.  A distant giggling of nymphs had managed to distract him, the dirty blond finally realizing just how stiff his neck had become from his stoic little crouch he made while in his little zone of creativity, now earning a very overdue groan as Caine drew a hand back, rubbing against the sore muscles there.
A small sigh eventually escaped Caine, allowing himself to recline back for his back to connect with 'his' tree, a spot that after so many years of using it to hide and create in plain sight-- he was reminded of how nice it felt to have those kind of moments again.  The slightest bit of peace which had been rare in the time he'd spent away from camp.  Once blue eyes fell on his drawing pad, the tall demigod frowned slightly, almost reprimanding himself to have bothered drawing it all again, but he put off the self-pity for another time as he turned the page back, hiding it into the other stack of half finished sketches that remained curled back on the booklet.  Though of course, even that never completely soothed away the anxiousness that had been boiling just beneath his skin lately, a sign among a handful of others that always left him concerned something was coming-- and he'd be shown exactly what whether he wanted to see or not.

Caine continues to smile warmly even once L breaks away, but he raises an eyebrow at her.   He should of expected it, he guessed, he being more concerned of him over the fact she was the one in the infirmary, but the thought simply reminded him he hadn't been that ecstatic over the circumstances of why L was here.  "I got chewed up a little when I was making my way back here, but y'know.  That's pretty much average when you run around with a monster target on your back like me.  I'm fine-- But, then there's you, L."  He said, his smile becoming a little sadder, "I'm more worried about whether you are okay.  I heard about what happened after I arrived back to an eerily empty cabin.  I'm... I'm sorry I wasn't here sooner, L.  Really..."
Tumblr media
She held onto her brother tightly and grinned so hard she could pretty much feel her teeth cracking. “Caine!” She repeated, almost in disbelief that this wasn’t a dream. She realizes where she is yet again and retreats off of her brother and onto her bed. “Oh gods are you okay? You aren’t hurt are you?”

Despite all the conflict Caine was harboring in that moment, when L began to stir and soon enough laid eyes on him, the son of Apollo couldn't help but light up in return.  The pouncing L practically knocked the air out of him, but all Caine did was hug his sister tighter, laughing just a little, "L!" Though quickly, he rethought her overexerting herself, soon gently trying to soothe her into relaxing, "You know how to make an already exciting day even more nerve wracking, sis."
Tumblr media
L’s sitting up and rubbing her eyes, looking for a satyr to ask when she can leave when she realizes that there’s a person sitting next to her. She follows the sound of the groan to a chair next to her bed. At the sight of her sleeping brother, L isn’t sure whether to scream or cry so she settles on practically jumping on him as she hugs him. “Caine!”

The sensation isn't really there yet, the slight discomfort from having fallen asleep, if you could even call it that, with his head tilted back unnaturally against the unforgiving support of the wooden chair Caine had brought up beside the infirmary bed-- though, if he were honest, the inconvenience was nothing compared to what he'd felt watching over his sister that night.  It wasn't exactly the homecoming he'd imagined, though perhaps he'd pushed his luck too far after the first one and that was why he'd stumbled back into to camp only to find immense devastation in his cabin in the form of two absent siblings for reasons Caine was still trying to deny.  His brother was the easier one to hold off accepting only because what had happened, what he felt was partially his own fault, wasn't staring him right in the face like it had been when he found L in the infirmary just as he'd been told she would be.  Only this was the first time it wasn't due to her taking supplies to tend to an injured critter or camper, or to misuse bandages as some impromptu mummy costume for whatever half-baked reason they may of decided.
By the time a handful of hours had escaped the son of Apollo as he remained at L's cotside, wondering all the 'why's and 'how's that had led his sister to such a sorrow filled decision and why he'd been so useless to have not been able to predict one bloody thing about it-- just so he could have... could have...  there were so many things he could have done and things he'd always regret having chosen instead that somewhere along all the chaos and high emotion, he had finally dozed off and hours later when the girl in front of him groans, it earns a mutter from the napping Caine.
Tumblr media
L is the filling in a blanket burrito. She squirms, manages to wriggle her way partly out of it, and then she opens her eyes. She’s a bit confused at first, then realizes she’s in the infirmary, remembering the night before. She groans, ashamed of herself, and guilty of what she made her sister and these satyrs go through.

Perhaps it was just the tension that Caine assumed had once existed between Danny and him over various things that Caine found silly he'd ever considered it. Yet,  it was still just slightly unexpected as Danny hugs him that it catches the son of Apollo just a little off guard, but it passes quickly enough for him to return the slight squeeze before Danny pulls away.  The blond can't help it as he follows the other teen's line of sight to his leg and Caine already knows what's about to be said.  All Caine offers is miniscule shrug in addition to small, calm little smile, "I got attacked about a half mile outside of camp on the way back, but it just got the one 'bite' in on me...  I've had plenty worse, I'm fine  How've... uh... things been?"
Tumblr media
"Yeah, it has." Danny steps forward to give Caine a hug. Though their last real encounter ended on a very peculiar note, the two of them have known each other for a very long time, and Danny is relieved to see him safe, especially now, when everybody’s lives seem constantly jeopardized. Danny doesn’t notice Caine’s leg until he lets go of him and takes another look. "What happened to your leg? Are you alright?"

The son of Apollo was making decent time in his opinion, though he credited it partially to the small piece of ambrosia he'd chewed to kill a portion his pain, but much as he's expected, he didn't make it completely to his cabin before a figure began moving toward him.  However, it didn't take very long before he could make out the very familiar figure and that alone caused Caine to stop momentarily, fighting off the fluster that almost took his voice before he could respond, all thanks to the fact one of the last times times he'd ever seen the son of Demeter, he'd done something just a tad hard to forget all out of spite of the other teen's former beau.  He pulled a hand out of his pocket, offering a small wave,  "Oh... Hey, Danny... 'S been awhile. "
Tumblr media
Danny sat against a tree, looking out toward a small field of flowers just before the edge of the forest. What started as half-hearted experimentation had become a full-time project, and while results were looking good, they didn’t come without a price. For the third time in two days, Danny adhered a bandage to his left hand to cover up a burn from his own special creation. He called it Weeping Wisteria, and while it had been the leading cause of injury, it was showing the most potential as a combative flower. So naturally, when Danny spotted a figure walking in his general direction, his instincts led him to steer the misguided camper away, lest he or she get any ideas. But before Danny could utter a word, a wave of familiarity washes over him, and he completely lets down his guard. “… Caine?”

The voice that pipes up earns Caine's lift of his head, but unlike the camper quickly coming toward him, he's already identified his good samaritan and there's nothing else in the world he'd rather do but crawl in a hole then and there.  Of all the people in the camp and with his hope of getting to his cabin quickly, he's hoped he's be able to avoid Viv and in turn would of allowed him to avoid the hurt that seeing her caused right now.  While the gesture was kind and he knew he's need to get infirmary attention, but something just wouldn't allow him to extend his hand, even in a move to hug the familiar face like he would have a long while ago.  "Thanks, Viv... but I'll be fine... I've dealt with worse."  He drawled, trying not to put as much emphasis on 'worse' pain that he nearly did, shrugging and offering an appreciative smirk,  "Still, thanks anyway..."
Tumblr media
Viv has been skipping around camp with sword in hand, slashing about at imaginary monsters to strengthen both arms. Of course, as soon as she spots an injured camper she leaps to attention and tightens her grip on the weapon, making quick work of jogging directly over to them. “Oh my gods, dude, here.” Without thinking to focus on their face, she offers the stranger a helping hand. “Shit, I sure hope the other guy looks worse than you do.”

Suddenly, without hearing the approaching footfalls nor seeing thanks to him gluing his eyes to the ground,  Caine finds himself temporarily off balance as a hands grasp into his shoulders, almost preparing him to respond with a less than friendly reflex, but his sudden lift of his head and recognition of who was staring right at him left Caine shocked momentarily, unsure of how to react thanks to the muddle memories that stirred at the sight of Julian, but the sudden realization did cause him to jerk away with the weakest looking smile , if you could even call it that, as he swallowed down the resentment he didn't want to have to deal with until after he'd at least unpacked, "Hey, Jules."
Tumblr media
Julian runs from someone he angered and he doesn’t see Caine until it’s almost too late. He grabs hold of Caine’s shoulders to steady himself, nearly crashing into Caine. “Oh, wow, sorry!” he says letting go. And then he recognizes Caine. “Caine?”

As he felt himself trip forward slightly from being knocked into from behind, Caine recovered enough to turn around quickly, though not before wincing,  only to find the dark haired camper staring widely back at him, though the question and his unfamiliarity with the person nearly made him fluster, as he often did. "I... uh... yeah, well... I mean I'll be okay.  Trust me, I've had alot worse...  Kind of just the main downside of being monsters finding me especially mouth watering."
Tumblr media
Brielle had been on her way to talk to Chiron about cabin upgrades when she bumped into someone. She backed up a bit to see if they were okay. When she saw him, Brielle’s eyes widened. “Oh my gods, are you okay? What happened?”

It wasn't so much the call of his name that caused Caine to stop in his tracks and whip around toward the source, but it was the familiarity of the voice.  Hell, not even familiar.  He knew who that was and chewed up or not, there had never been an injury or plan he didn't put aside happily when Hazel was seeking him, a large grin replacing the sullen discomfort on his features as blond haired and Hazel's form blurred just slightly before he felt her hugging him, arms wrapping tightly around the daughter of Athena. "Hazelnut!  Gods... It's so great to see you! " Caine admitted without hesitation, not bothering to release his hug for a few moments longer and only if he had to.
Tumblr media
Walking back to her cabin, Hazel fought with her hair tie, letting out a small sigh as it finally gave way and let her hair fall down her back.  Classes had gone on a little longer then expected, and right now she wanted nothing more then to lay on her bed and not move until dinner.  After fixing her hair, Hazel looked up again, pausing as she saw someone walking towards the cabins.  It took her a second and a double take to be sure who it was, and as soon as she did, all thoughts of going back to bed where buried. “Caine?” She hurried forward, a smile starting to grow on her face despite his worse for wear appearance.  ”Oh my gods, Caine!”
