Okay so I heard back from Unbound. I got all the victims and murderers correct, but not the page order. I realised I made a mistake just a couple of days after submitting, so that was not news to me.
They did say that they will continue accepting entries until midnight on 31 December 2023 (but without any prize). So I will continue working on it during the year.
If anyone wants to join me, I will be making that Discord I talked about before but never got the time to do.

Hey I saw the Cain's Jawbone discord thing really late and was wondering if it was still a thing?
It’s not a thing yet, but it will become one like, later this week, if you’re still interested

I just submitted, but I'm not feeling too confident. I think I'll get about 90% right though, and that's good enough for me right now.

Okay, so we only have a couple of days left before the deadline, and I'm like, at least 80% done with Cain's Jawbone. I haven't been liveblogging the process as much as I planned since most of my actual progress happened in bursts of hyperfixation months apart, but I am almost finished!
If you're in the same boat as me, let me know, and then we can support each other through this last bit. And if you know you won't finish before the deadline, please don't let it stop you. The actual competition ended almost 90 years ago. Take your time.

aaand I'm done with one "chapter" and almost done with a second one. that's more than 20% of the book I figured out in about 3 days. if you're thinking of giving cain's jawbone a try, I really encourage you to do it. it takes some time to just understand the concept and the way clues work, but after that it is really fun

I take it back. I spent a very productive day on it and figured out the dates of around 20 pages. I have so many theories. I am invincible and will finish it before the deadline.
I don’t know why I thought it was a good idea to start doing Cain’s Jawbone while doing a master’s degree, but even if I don’t finish it before the deadline (let’s be honest, it’s not going to happen), I will finish it

Quote
The old brown thorn-trees break in two high over Cummen Strand, Under a bitter black wind that blows from the left hand; Our courage breaks like an old tree in a black wind and dies, But we have hidden in our hearts the flame out of the eyes Of Cathleen, the daughter of Houlihan. The wind has bundled up the clouds high over Knocknarea, And thrown the thunder on the stones for all that Maeve can say. Angers that are like noisy clouds have set our hearts abeat; But we have all bent low and low and kissed the quiet feet Of Cathleen, the daughter of Houlihan. The yellow pool has overflowed high up on Clooth-na-Bare, For the wet winds are blowing out of the clinging air; Like heavy flooded waters our bodies and our blood; But purer than a tall candle before the Holy Rood Is Cathleen, the daughter of Houlihan.
William Butler Yeats (Red Hanrahan’s Song about Ireland)

Hilda Doolittle (1886 – 1961) was an American poet, novelist, and memoirist, who published under the pen name H.D. She played a central role within the Imagist movement. Events such as the loss of her brother during World War I and the breakup of her marriage to the poet Richard Aldington weighed heavily on her later poetry. Imagist authority Glenn Hughes wrote that 'her loneliness cries out from her poems'. She had a deep interest in Ancient Greek literature, and her poetry often borrowed from Greek mythology and classical poets. Her work is noted for its incorporation of natural scenes and objects, which are often used to evoke a particular feeling or mood. She was bisexual, and became a feminist and LGBT icon in the 1970s and 1980s when her writings were rediscovered. (From Wikipedia)
“The golden one is gone from the banquets; She, beloved of Atimetus, The swallow, the bright Homonoea: Gone the dear chatterer; Death succeeds Atimetus.”
