Semantic typography
The most promising was the chernobyl themed one, I just think it looks the best out of all of them and really nicely put together.
It worked well when I used a pencil and ruler to help me measure out where everything was going to fit in terms of letters and illustrative elements.
It didn't work well when I realized I had made very dark pencil lines that were hard to erase.
It surprised me when I picked similar typefaces for each.
If I could do something differently I would probably spend more time on the sketches, I was really lost in the beginning parts of the assignment and I had a lot of trouble figuring out what I was doing.
None of the work surprised me.

These are the three from the final five compositions
The following three are the typographic pieces, for the one that looks like some of the letters have teeth I used the counter space from the “A” to create little ‘teeth’. I struggled a little with it because it was hard to make the triangles straight, and they often looked jumbled up if I wasn't careful with spacing. A classmate helped me come up with the idea that the word ‘Dangerous’ was ‘falling’ and I realized when I was sketching it out that I could make the letters smaller as they moved down the page to make it look a little more ‘real’. My final piece started out as my strongest but I think it's become my weakest. The idea was that I would use parts of the ‘E’ to create a scope off of a gun, however at the critique someone mentioned that I should flip the ‘D’ around to create a more round shape. Overall im quite happy with how my pieces turned out.

these are the first two of the final 5 compositions
I had some problems with one of my illustrative pieces, because it wasn't the original idea I had come up with however, it's definitely stronger than the original, and it had good reviews from peers during the critique, the second one I like the best out of all the compositions because I put a lot of illustrative elements into it, it was also inspired by a scary movie I watched days before the assignment was introduced, I really like how it all turned out in the end.

This is my progress with this assignment, i'm hoping to make the word dangerous look large and ominous while also being typographically correct for my five compositions I have chosen to use
Trade gothic
Quadraat
Sobon font
Scala
News gothic
My reasoning for choosing these typefaces is because they seem the most intimidating and serious out of all the typeface options we had. I chose to take on a more intimidating look for my assignment because the word ‘dangerous’ itself is seen as intimidating.

The following is 30+ thumbnail sketches for our next typography assignment called Semantic Typography. With this assignment we have to choose one word and try to represent the meaning of the word using typographic elements and or illustrative elements. For my assignment I chose the word Dangerous, in the images shown you can see how I have experimented with different illustrative and typographic elements to get the outcome Im looking for within this project.

spaced out (typography)
I chose thes letters because the held the most counter space, and they worked well with my piece.
I chose the font type Georgia because it has a very classy look but it also interesting to look at because of the modern feel that it has.
it surprised me how easily I could sketch out the letters.
I would have changed how slow of a process it was when I was trying to come up with ideas and thumbnail sketches, I had too many ‘blank’ moments when I couldn't come up with creative ideas
I learned that typography is a very different form of art to which I am accustomed to, however its very interesting to sketch out letters and make them into pictures its tedious but its a nice change.
what worked well, was when I started just throwing ideas together and not really putting much thought into how bad or how good it may look, it helped me come up with my final idea.
