A final project statement and evaluation of your experience and outcomes
This whole paper was super worthwhile as I learnt to use machines I would have never dared to have used otherwise. It was super innovative and forwards thinking as I wasn't aware of how limited I was within my ideas when not considering how I could incorporate technology amongst them.
I really branched out with my laser cutting as although I didn't succeed on my first idea I was able to learn so much and get really comfortable using the technology. One point however was it was really difficult to keep trialling and creating an outcome on the laser cutter when you weren't able to get a slot to use it or people ran overtime into your reserved timeframe.
I was also really happy with the embroidery outcome as I originally was somewhat bored by the idea of embroidery as I only really considered it as an aesthetic feature. I really thought long and hard about my design before coming up with an outcome that to me was very strong as it was more about how we can use embroidery for functionality and sustainability as well.
The vinyl cutter was a bit bland and it didn't quite grab my attention in the way the other ones had. Also due to the timeframe of two days for me to pretty much complete my outcome due to work commitments, I wasn't feeling all that inspired. However I knuckled down and did heaps of trialling and test runs in order to achieve something that I would wear. although I only used it as an aesthetic feature I did consider some more out of the box ideas such as hair designs and body painting.

End Use Consideration
Laser Cut Hat
In order to make sure my laser cut hat is able to get as much use as possible in order to prevent the owner needing to purchase more hats to serve different purposes, I laminated the denim material. This ensured that the material is now water proof and can be worn as a winter fashion statement to prevent rain from being in your face and disrupting perfect makeup. It also works in summer also as it acts as a sun visor. The secure fit to ones head ensures it will stay on the head during wind or activities making it pretty versatile. The fact that it is recycled jeans allows room for this design to be made in a variety fo different materials and patterns/colours. Something I would like to trial in the future is perhaps crazy stitching a whole bunch of one use plastic bags to create a super durable and waterproof material to cut my design out of. This way I am using materials that would've otherwise been thrown out to create my garment.
Embroidered Skirt
This skirt is crazy funky with heaps of hectic design features going on everywhere. In a futher development of this idea I would've liked to have used a black recycled material of sorts and perhaps only used black threads to stitch the various pieces together. I would have then used a white embroidery stitch to print words on the surface in order to create more impact with the embroidered detail. This way the durability stitching is not obvious and the embroidery becomes the main feature. Pretty much I would just like to experiment a bit with minimalistic colour palettes in order to create a garment that is wearable with many different outfits. The whole idea behind this was really powerful to me as I think it is super commercial and reduces waste immensely. Almost any material scraps can be overlapped together to create perhaps even a roll or direct pattern pieces again and again regardless of their condition. This way there could be literally zero waste if this concept was used as a commonplace fashion practice. The general skirt itself can be worn successfully and tied as a cape or a skirt. It is super strong as a result of extra embroidery detail on the seams and will be a long lasting and crazy edition to any adventurous fashionistas wardrobe.
Headband
These headbands are pretty fun and can be customised with whatever design the wearer would want. This means that the band can be personalised to best fit the wearers needs, making it a somewhat sentimental and cherished accessory to the particular individual. The coverings can be made of most recycled materials and I was even thinking about using sacks as a more adventurous and fun material cover.

Second Headband Trial

I was super pleased with the outcome of this design as it acknowledged and overcame the bulky look the previous good morning band presented. It also looked fabulous and I liked the sewing as it felt more sturdy.

Failed Goodmorning interior

SO this cute wee headband is lovely on, but I followed a youtube tutorial on how to construct one and failed a bit as my hot glue gun technique wasn't quite as polished as the video. This left me with a somewhat undesirable bumpy bulk within the interior. I decided that perhaps I could try sewing the interior lether together before only using one layer of glue for cover piece to reduce bulk in my next headband

Headband cont..

FAIL I didn't stick the vinyl down properly and found I also painted to heavily leading to a disaster outcome. The words were barely readable and I felt bad for wasting leather. However it was an important step that helped me to understand the importance of sticking down my design properly.

Trial two.

Trial two was fun and crispy as i had stuck down the design firmly unlike previous.

I now had two successful designs that were personalised to me and could be changed or altered to fit any desirable word or colour, making them a super desirable headband design for a wide range of headband enthusiasts.

Headband and skirt detail
Here I began to cut out my desired skirt vinyl details and decided stars would be a fun additive.

I placed my star designs in a way that evenly distributed them in an aesthetic manner across my skirt.

I then coloured them in and heat pressed the fabric paint.

Working Towards Final Narrowed Down
I LOVE headbands and have so many old costume headbands i don't wear due to there being ears etc and ugly covers on them. So i decided I would create leather covers for my headbands as a super wearable and fun concept I would love to utilise in my own style.

I trialled different leather scraps in order to use the piece that wasted the least amount of cut off.

Here I trialled a sample as a cover and found when the leather was pulled the linear design got distorted meaning I should choose either a horizontal or vertical design.

Working towards Final Vinyl Cutting Sampling

Using scrap leather I found in my scrap material box and denim cutoffs i began experimenting with cutouts and fabric space to see how adhesive the sticker was and how the paints turned out with them

Scrap leathers!

I was super stoked with this as the design was crisp and effective. The lettering is something I struggled to do without the vinyl cutter as the letters here are so perfect and not really able to be replicated by hand easily.

I loved the blue paint against the leather, but it was evident the yellow didn't work well.

The denim and leather were all successful leaving me a difficult decision as to what ,material I wanted to upcycled for my final. I decided to paint on my already denim embroidery skirt as another form of decoration to create harmony between the scrap pieces. I then felt comfortable proceeding forwards with the leather for my final.

Sampling

Here I trialled cutting some designs by myself in order to make sure my sampling would go successfully.

Sampling Vinyl Cutter
As a wearily outcome my group members and I took to wearing our designs straight from the printer. This would have been a fun and new way of looking at body painting or fast decorating for matching model runway looks. it also would make advertising using spray pant super easy as the vinyl blocks the desired design from catching paint. However i want to continue developing my vinyl cutting idea further.

Also hair design? Using a temporary hair colour on straight hair such as my fringe, you could use the designs to block and create fun artworks on hair.

Sampling Vinyl Cutter

As a group we looked at cutting out a few different designs and exploring how they would look when the negative space was reversed as pictured above and below. This was a really good way for me to understand the concept as I am a very visual learner.

In Class Notes Vinyl Cutting
Unfortunately this technique wasn't all that inspiring to me as it seems like another technique limited to visual aesthetic of a wearable outcome. I challenged the embroidery with huge amounts of enthusiasm and was really happy with the outcome as it was utilising a visual technique in a structural element. However going back to vinyl cutting I was ready to explore it in a fun and new way also.

3D Printing part 2
Learning to use the 3D printer and seeing one of my group members designs actually being printed was super cool! I loved that technology that seemed super scary and foreign to me, was now rather friendly and somewhat able to be operated by me. I also loved that we could print an outcome that was successful using steps I could follow again in the future.

Deconstructing a Tie
One of my old ties had begun to come unstitched so I decided to deconstruct it to see what it was made up of. This also meant I was able to create a tie pattern from this garment

Embroidery Creation of my final
To collaborate all my pieces of scrap material I pinned them and then proceeded to stitch them.

The crazy stitching on the machine allowed me to stitch down all the joined areas and also go over and over the larger overlapped areas in order to ensure it was durable. It also allowed the seams to be secured in places and sit flat against the secured overlapped material.

I made sure to stitch together all the overlapped seams before going about the crazy stitching.

I made sure to embroidery visual designs on the seams for maximum strength and durability. This way the seams would be very strong.

I had a lot of different techniques on my skirt design.
