give me whumpees with scars they can't hide. Not by a scarf, long sleeves, or even a mask. Give me whumpees whose hair has gone white with stress, give me whumpees whose hands shake and are always unsteady, give me whumpees with amputated limbs and scars that split their features. Uncomfortable scars. They aren't aesthetic they aren't pretty they just are. And then let them deal with hushed "oh god"s and the stares and the whispered conversations behind their backs. Let the recovery break them in ways not even the torture could.

Ok first off, as one writer to another, i know how crucial feedbaek and commints are in getting the motivation to keep writing so this is my genuine outpouring of love and respect i have for you putting your work out into the world and also an impassioned plea for you to KEEP GOING BC I NEED MOAR
ch. 2
- “I left Alpha Squad in the hands of a murderer! You left a killer trapped in a spotlight where he’d be recognizable and where his time was carefully managed." This really says a lot about both characters, it speaks to the guilt Jackson lives with and the compassion Soothsayer has and i love it
- i appreciate the retelling of events to remind readers of the previous chapter's events since they came out a while before ch 2 came out, recap exposition
- the Paladin lands ever so politely on the balcony outside in his silly silvered breastplate, a picture of leadership and heroic charisma that makes me want to vomit the way all lies do" “So, Soothsayer,” the Paladin greets with that damned picture-perfect, dimpled smile of his." "powerful enough to score one hundred percent on the psychic aptitude test and then take one look at this demon with a perfect jaw-"
- "That would reveal a lot about you—I won’t ask you to compromise your secret." Again! just the compassion on this guy!! he's grown up his whole life training himself to handle the immense strain of unfettered knowledge and the dangers that come with it, so he's acutely aware of the full scope of consequences of his actions, like DAMN you really did write this character like he actually Does know everything
- “Just wait a second.” I hold up the book. “What’s in here?”Names. Names. Names. Five thousand, nine hundred seventy-eight names-" this is such a great way to get across what a huge burden this gift can be sometimes, he asks this question because he's not expecting the full scope of the answer, but bc he's right next to soothesayer, he gets bajablasted with the enormous full scope and it knocks him out!! that's so cool!!!!
ch.3
- I love how the perspective keeps shifting, it makes the events new and fresh with each person that gets dragged into this mess
- it’s that he’s asleep on his back when I know for a fact that he’s a side sleeper." what a great way to establish intimacy!!! this whole first paragraph is screaming "i know this man intimately" without actually saying it!
- "Taped to it is a small pill container with a single, unremarkable, grey stone inside. A pebble, really."
- "his leaving right as Nathan joined Alpha Squad is just a coincidence and the rest of my theory falls apart. Please let it fall apart." the overarching theme of "knowledge is a burden and heavy are the consequences of gaining them bc now you gotta do something about it" doesnt just apply to soothsayer, delishis...
- he smiles. “Hey, Minny.”Oh, for the love of— “Don’t call me Minny."
- "runes indicate a transportation spell but those are basically a death sentence—" why would you be mentioning how dangerous transportation spells are 🤔🤔🤔
- "He brought me my favorite oatmeal. How the fuck does he know my favorite oatmeal?” I demand, but I make it anyway. “Do you have any milk?” THIS IS HOW I WOULD USE THIS POWER IF I HAD IT!! GOD i LOVE the little mundane stuff you put into this, its exactly how i would use a gift of perfect knowledge hh
- I’m sorry, how did I not notice my boyfriend was a telepath?” I blurt out. “We dated for a year, Jackson!” AAAAAND theres the payoff SEE?? you dropped some crumbs right at the start of the chapter and NOW i get to experience the satisfaction of finding out i was right, well played
- "The magical community is losing their shit over this-" i like the little snapshots of this world we're getting, like theres this whole part of a world we're only hearing about and it just really adds depth to the story
ch. 4
- "Do we really need to be unflappable even here? The cameras already caught Sorciere crying that day. Do they even care?" this is interesting because the thing that is showing innocence is love. the people who were ignorant of the paladin's crimes genuinely loved him and mourned him and i like that
- "She does that long distance projection thing to avoid using her phone, remember?” Ghost mocks." its really getting hammered home how close knit all these heroes are and i wonder if this is an active choice or just how you envision a hero society to be 🤔 like they know each others superpowers and their secret identities so i guess that sense of intimacy they share is gonna get quite shaken up once they are presented with the truth. "i know paladin! we shot pool every tuesday he would never do that!"-kindof set up
- “I’m sorry I left, Patrick,” he says and wow, that actually feels nice. Did I need to hear that? I think I needed to hear that." AM I INSANE OR AM I READING HIS DIALOGUE FASTER THAN NORMAL?? IS IT THE WAY YOU WROTE HIM?? U GENIUS???
- "back home now" 👀 so these heroes are more than just coworkers, they consider themselves family
- not for my twin - OHOHOHHHH thingsrgettin juicy
- "while he’s hanging up there for a few seconds, I dart over to the office supply aisle, eat two entire rotisserie chickens on the way over, grab a three pack of duct tape, put back my borrowed clothes except for the coat, and come back in time to catch the would be assassin." damn someone watched the xmen quicksilver school bomb rescue sequence and said
- i love how everyone agrees that speedsters are just, like that, universally. you know what i mean
- A single man with a knife is only…a reminder. My actual people are not so easily dissuaded. I want to retort that Major Arcana dissuaded him and his men just fine ten years ago, but I can’t find the words." OK SO without explicitly SAYING it, we now know: 1. this guy orchestrated Liam's mother's assassination attempt, 2. he's a pretty powerful and well connected villain if he was able to capture an omniscient kid 3. He's been doin this a longgg time and is a real threat if the former number one hero had to deal with him
- PERFECT CLIFFHANGER AT THE END DAMN YOU
KEEP GOING!!!!!!!!

When I get off work and back in front of a keyboard I will gush over how amazing this was to wake up to, oh my godd

It is my pleasure to finally be able to share with you the project that I've been working on for the past 2 years!
For my final project for my masters degree, I decided to create a visual development artbook for an animated movie adaptation of the Leviathan trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. This 100+ page long book contains all the research that I put into this project, from sketches and concept art to final designs and illustrations, as well as explanations of my creative process.
I am aware that the timing is not ideal, but I promise that this has absolutely nothing to do with the upcoming Netflix adaptation! That adaptation wasn't announced until after I'd completed my project, and I had absolutely no idea that it was happening. This is a fully fan-made project, and has no affiliation with Scott Westerfeld whatsoever.
All that being said: I hope you enjoy! This was a very long labour of love, and I am so so happy to finally share it with you all. These books hold a very special place in my heart, and it is my sincerest hope that my work manages to do them justice.

Thinking about a whumpee —hung by their wrists and forced to stand all day— able to get out of the restraints but immediately collapse from sheer exhaustion. When whumper returns, they’re just curled up on the ground directly below the hanging shackles; barely able to manage weak protests as they’re pulled up and their wrists are locked back into place.
