Tokyo, I fell in love with Sampuru Cakes n Foods
Cute, cute, cute! Everything in Japan is just so cute. There are cute rabbit shaped traffic cones, cute police mascots and even cute music that plays through each ward when the schools finish for the day. You can’t go into a shop without seeing something adorable and colourful, this includes all of their cakes.
Japanese people love their cakes and you can buy them in the most beautiful shops. Restaurants and cafes display fake versions of their food outside to entice you to go in, these are called Sampuru (samples). The real sampuru food is extremely expensive to make/buy but if you are lucky you might come across some in little shops and UFO catchers.
I lived in Japan for seven years and became obsessed with buying cute fake food to add to my collection. I loved the colours and brightness of the cakes. On a hard day all I had to do was look at my fake food and it would bring a smile to my face.

I hadn’t realised at this point that I could bake my own pretty cakes but even if I had wanted to, there wouldn’t have been a chance. My kitchen was so small there was no space to prepare any food and there was no oven. I did my best to make it work but there was no chance to make any cakes. So I kept on buying more and more fake food…
