Just played through Yearly Nostalgia and the way this isn't even an AU like MC just sucked at school and Caleb was like "don't worry!!! Here's this badge I got for being first, so maybe it will rub off on you :)"

Caleb AU?

Okay but like imagine a high school AU where Caleb is not only like the star of the basketball team, but also among the top in their class and MC is pissed. She's actually trying and then here comes the star himself like "Do you want help studying, pipsqueak? :)" and she's like "NO, I hate you" and Caleb's like "Well good luck on the test anyways ;)" Then she goes and studies with her fellow nerd Zayne. At least he's also studying really hard

The characters in this game (especially Sylus) are so well written that it actually infuriates me

Okay so listing the shit Sylus has gone through from memory...

He is heavily implied to have been rejected or outright abandoned by his parents as a very young dragon

He was always an outcast. Not human enough. Not dragon enough.

He cut off his scales and his horns because he hated them so much. But they grew back no matter what he did (again as a child)

The only kin he had got slaughtered right in front of him. Leaving him as the last dragon alive.

The same humans who slaughtered his kin but spared him because of his appearance turn on him the moment they see he is not in fact human and try to kill him. Again, this all happens when he is young.

He is then persecuted by humans until at some point, he ends up sealed in the Abyss, a greatsword lodged in his chest, preventing him from moving freely even down there. He stays like that for 1,600 years, surviving on Wanderer Protocores

He meets MC, who frees him. They fall in love, split half their souls with each other, and are happy. But due to the dragon's curse, Sylus is destined to kill her one day because she is his beloved... or she him, because she is his destined archnemesis.

MC is taken from him. Sylus goes berserk and loses his mind, his dragon instincts taking over fully.

He sacrifices himself for MC last second before he can kill her. Breaking their curse. Giving her a chance at a life free from being used and abused, and himself eternal rest

Only, MC has other plans and curses him to eternal life, essentially. Only she can kill him.

At some point in time, Sylus is reincarnated together with MC in the nebula. There they are both locked up in a gladiatorial cage as mere children, forced to kill for public entertainment. Think Hunger Games.

They successfully escape together, but at a later point in time they are separated by the Deepspace Tunnel or as Sylus says "You were quietly moved to another garden in a foreign land".

Sylus ends up in space-time prison. We don't know how long he spent there or what was done to him, but I doubt it was in any way pleasant or easy.

He escapes and space pirates through the cosmos for MC, who he can probably sense is still out there. He eventually pinpoints her location, but is unable to properly reunite with her... because she has regressed to a young child. He frees her, but walks off... effectively losing her a third time. He also learns of the horrific torture that Gaia put her through. He watches over her from a distance, but never approaches her, valuing her autonomy too much to insert himself. But he waits for her. Hopes – no, knows – that she will find her way to him, if only to seek answers about her past.

The next 12 years – as most of his existence – are spent almost entirely alone, with no one except Mephie for companionship. He has no friends. No family. No close associates. Things do improve with Luke and Kieran's arrival.

14 years after he left her, he meets MC again. But she doesn't remember him, and worse, actively hates him and blames him for the death of her family, of which he had no part.

He is told straight to his face that MC – his soulmate and prime reason for living – rejects him, fears him, and is disgusted by him. Which very visibly hurts him.

Sees the Deepspace Tunnel again and with it, memories of losing MC. Again, the pain on his face is very visible.

In Death and Rebirth, he gets a hurtful reminder that he still doesn't have MC's full trust. And – yet again – the distress is apparent. Because their trust in each other is everything to him.

So... in summary: Sylus has been used, abused, isolated, and locked away for most of his life. He is so unused to kindness and to being treated like a human being that he doesn't know how to react when people wish him happy birthday.

Any care he was shown for the first millennia of his life came exclusively from MC, the one person to actually see him as something other than a Monster. Said soulmate is taken from him twice, tortured and repeatedly killed, her memories of him erased. When they meet again in current timeline, she hates him, and it takes a long time for Sylus to undo the damage of their first meeting.

The man has not had it easy, nor has he gotten to feel much joy.

So it'd be understandable to become bitter. Cruel. Cold.

But he doesn't

Hell, he never even crashes out (as far as we know).

Instead he's compassionate, an animal and nature lover, attends and donates at charity events, takes in the two orphans that tried to kill him, is the King of Consent, very emotionally mature etc.

Sylus is so strong, man... he never lost himself. He never lost his innate kindness despite a life (or lives ig) where nearly none was ever shown him.

You know how lion cubs will pounce and "attack" their parents and the parents like overdramatically fall over and pretend to be got by them? Dragon Sylus doing that with you (modern day Sylus would do it too lol)

He's lounging around in his hoard, back to the door. It's the perfect time to sneak over aaaand POUNCE! Sylus dramatically topples over and lands with a soft oof against the gold or floor, positioned so you're on top of him

"I gotcha!" you shout triumphantly. And Sylus, who heard you the second you even woke up, just grins and nods, saying, "You got me, kitten."

Does it with the kids, too!!! He could be anywhere doing anything, and suddenly his little dragon(s) are ganging up on him, jumping onto his back and wings, or grabbing his legs. Sylus hitting the ground. Maybe he messes with them back, holding his breath and laying extra still. Just to hear their laughs quiet and feel their little hands shake him worriedly as they quietly go "Papa...?" Only to scare them by grabbing them up and hugging them tight and blowing raspberries against their neck, bringing back the laughter and delight

Sylus As a Partner? Best Shit Ever

I personally, cannot get enough of Sylus as a partner I think. Like, there is so much there that you wouldn't even think about.

For instance? His need to be prepared

Sy always seems to know what is needed, when its needed and how. In the "Captivating Moment path", when you go to take a shower, after working out? Right when your starting to think about how you are gonna need clean cloths?

Boom. clean clothes.

But its not just that, its a lot of little things. He just seems to know and anticipate your next move before you even realize it. Frankly, its irritating to you sometimes because it means that you can almost never surprise him (he assures you that your surprise him daily, but its said with that smirk that makes you wanna both kiss and punch him, so take that as you will).

When you ask him about it, he always tells you that is his job, when there are people constantly trying to double-cross, kill you, or screw you over you have to be prepared. and honestly, that makes sense to some extent.

But what he doesn't tell you or tries to hide is how much he just wants to makes your relationship the best he can for you. See, Sylus didn't have a lot of romantic relationships before this. If any at all. It just seemed kind of frivolous, especially when he remembers everything from a previous life. He knew it wasn't but it kinda would feel like....cheating? Regardless, he had a business to run and didn't let himself entertain that idea until you showed up.

Now, now this relationship business was his business. He knew that he couldn't exactly use explosives and guns to win this battle (although you two probably wouldn't be opposed to trying) so he would have to prepare in everyway he could.

the book Luke and Kieran give MC "Humanity and Conquer" didnt just come from no where you know.

I could see Sylus approaching relationships from different angles, trying to figure out how to keep a healthy dynamic. not because he is particularly interested in the psychology or history of love or relationships.

But because for the first time in his life, he feels something other than anger, frustration, and apathy. He feels so many emotions.

He feels passion, he feels lust, he feels warmth, he feels hurt, he feels sad, he just... feels. and frankly that could be more scary than any business deal gone wrong.

At least in a business deal, he knows how he will respond.

So he prepares, he knows that he's got his own problems, but he tries to research around them. To have a plan. That way, when the time comes and you need him. He will never leave you feeling lost.

Take another example. You are his partner.

I like the idea that when Sylus refers to you, especially in the company of others. He without fail calls you his partner. At first, its a little irritating. You might have been hoping that he would use something cuter, like wifey or something like that. Partner made it sound like y'all were showing up to the same shady arms deal (which you would sometimes, but that was besides the point...its about the vibes)

But see, for Sylus, partner is the only true way to describe you. Because to him, you were his equal. He was used to being feared, people calling him boss and sir and anything that might signal respect. But you? You called him Sylus, Sy, Lil S, crow boy, and literally any name you could think of that would send someone in the N109 zone into an early grave.

No matter what you did, he is on your team and is willing to support you. Sure he will always be there to protect you. He loves you, he doesn't want you to get hurt. But he also knows you. He knows your soul (hell your literal souls were CONNECTED) so when you go out on a mission, when you get into a scrap? He lets you take care of your business, maybe providing you an upgraded weapon or two because seeing you with a new weapon was maybe the hottest thing Sylus could think of sometimes. But he never dismissed you, never made you feel that you couldn't handle yourself (can anyone else see the scene in the lab/ experiment place where MC is protesting to resonating and he's like "relax, you can handle it"? thats the vibe)

He cuddles you, he holds you and he takes care of you because he loves you, not because he needs to, like your some kind of extra errand on his to-do list, but because as your partner he knows that he's the one that gets to do those things.

Neither of you operate from a place of imposition or fear when doing things for one another. Your lives are SO different. In fact, if you decided to neither or you had to see each other again. You choose to be in each others lives.

That choice? The ability to respect one another enough and work along side each other? That is what it means to be a partner to Sylus. THAT is why you are his partner.

And one of my personal favorite takes? Your mundane is his dream.

Look, it is no secret to anyone how rowdy and chaotic the N109 zone is. It comes withe territory. And Sylus? he runs and works with it well.

But when chaos and volatility is your life, you get tired. You just need everything to stop, just for a second to catch your breath.

Look at Sylus as a person. His pass times, what do you notice?

He likes playing an instrument (organ), he likes to fish, he likes to game, he likes to read, and he likes to sing.

Taken individually, these activates don't mean a whole lot. But when put together, you see a pattern where he just wants a chance to step back from the chaos and enjoy a chance for rest. these activities have a goal, they have a determined role and rules to follow, or they simply just keep the person present in the moment. He lives for the quietness of everyday activities.

Thats why he likes to take you to the movies, why he enjoys shopping with you, walking around festivals and yes, making event favors with you.

Because its a break from the chaos of being the leader.

He gets to just enjoy spending time with the person he loves. So, you know those little things that are either irritating, or are tasks you don't think twice about? Sylus will gladly do them either with you for for you.

He will tie your shoe.

He will wash the dishes with you.

Tired and don't want to comb your hair when you get out of the shower? Don't worry Sweetie, he's got this.

Because, for him, this is a different world that he hasn't had the chance to live yet. This is a love and a world that you made him apart of, so he wants to enjoy each little part of it. So every time you feel guilty for that small task you ask him to do, he just reminds you.

This is his favorite thing to do. Please don't rob him of the chance to live in your world for a while.

Anyways, I have so many more, but I am currently mid rant about the Phianon trailer with my friend in Seoul we are both crying about our lack of tickets and losing a 50/50.

Dragon!Sylus and his strange affectionate habits

❥ you’re his mate, but you’re also human. his habits weird you out!

❥ he licks you! you could be sitting on the couch, minding your own business with a book in hand and sylus would come up right next to you and just start licking your cheek. you’d retract suddenly and look him up and down with a strange look on your face.

“what? i already explained this to you kitten.”

licking is his way of showing affection toward you. it’s supposed to tell you “i’m here to protect you” in a way. he also just loves tasting your skin and becoming more familiar with you since it brings him so much comfort. he’ll even lick your hair if he’s really getting into it!

❥ he feeds you really well. hungry? no you’re not, not with him at least. he’ll feed you until you’re completely and utterly satiated from his meals. when he sees you happy and drowsy from a full stomach it brings him very deep satisfaction.

sometimes he’ll put bags of snacks or containers of food where you frequent in hopes you’ll eat them. if you don’t, he’ll take offense or think he did something wrong and now you’re protesting!

❥ he makes you wear his treasures. part of being a dragon means hoarding pretty and shiny things. dragons are very protective and territorial about their things, but sylus makes an exception for you. he insists that you wear the jewels he’s collected and will drown you in his riches.

he especially loves it when you go out into public with his treasures on because it shows off his wealth via his beautiful mate. he’ll designate certain jewels or items just for you and if you’re even a little bit dissatisfied with them, he’ll throw them out right away.

❥ he builds nests for you. sylus will innocently steal your most precious items or the items that seem to bring you the most comfort and then bring them to an empty corner. it’s here that he piles up your cosmetics, clothes, bedsheets, pillows, stuffies—anything you could think of—and then he waits.

sylus would never force you to do anything, he wants you to come to the nest on your own volition without his input. he won’t even mention it, he’ll just wait until you find the nest and watch from afar what you do. if you finally do decide to nestle in, he’ll jump for joy knowing that you like it. he’ll also never come into your nest unless you ask him to, and if you do, let’s just say he’ll take care of you really well.

❥ he purrs, and really loudly too. you’ll hear him purring when you’re cuddling, when you’re eating, when you’re bathing, during sex, when you’re doing anything, really. dragons only purr when extremely content but sylus makes a habit out of it when he’s around you. the man is just very happy.

the sound of his purrs come from a deep place within his chest, making them loud and deep. even though they may startle you sometimes, the frequency and vibrancy brings you a sense of comfort and peace, and sylus knows this. whenever you’re upset or anxious, he’ll start purring loudly in hopes of calming you down.

❥ he walks around naked. of course, sylus only does this with you, but it never fails to catch you off guard. it’s not so much a sexual thing, per se, but more of a comfort thing. he’s so comfortable with your presence that he doesn’t feel the need to keep his tight, itchy clothes on when he’s alone with you. he’ll let everything hang and jiggle if he so calls for it.

although, there are times where he’ll purposefully walk around naked to seduce you like a peacock would. he thinks flaunting off his assets will make you want to pounce on him and make love to him all night—which is unfortunately true.

❥ he watches you while you sleep. at first it was cute, but when you awoke one night to his vibrant red eyes staring you down in the dark, it started to feel a little creepy. he explains it away by saying he needs to make sure you’re okay, which doesn’t really make much sense to you since you were in his secure territory.

because sylus doesn’t need much sleep, whenever you take your beauty rest, he feels the urge to look after you and your vulnerable form. he also just enjoys watching you do something so silly and human-like sleeping. this was one of your habits that he didn’t understand. he does finally back off a little bit after your complaining, though.

❥ he has a wild tail. sylus has full control over all of his body parts at any give time, so his tail is always indicative of how he’s feeling. he has a rather calm tail when you two are around others, but when alone with you? you have to dodge it sometimes from how erratic it is. he explains that it’s the equivalent of how your leg bounces. something you don’t even think about when it happens, but can have control over once you realize it.

it’s just another way of him saying to you that he’s comfortable enough around you to let loose with his body and do more natural, unconscious mannerisms.

Does anyone else give their irl friends lads mains? Sometimes I look at one of my friends and I'll be like "you freak, you would love Caleb" or "you act exactly like Zayne, he would be so up your alley"

Headcanon that if you were ever stressed out Sylus would give you little kisses on the temple and tell you that he's there for you, no matter what you have going on... like he would BE THERE just to be like "you're doing great, sweetie :3"
