His father’s cold words cut him to the core. He pulled his knees closer, fearing the day the Prince of Darkness returned. His new memories at the forefront of his mind.

           THIS   ... wasn’t a subject she was expecting to broach in this place. This wasn’t a subject she was exactly eager to broach at all, with anyone. But --- much like what seems to be the case for this stranger --- there was some sort of unexpected understanding that found it tumbling out of her anyway. 

                ❛   ... Exactly. Sometimes the person you knew isn’t the person you reunite with. No matter how much you want it, no matter whether you know how to do it or not...        HER   footsteps had ground to a slow halt, the sound echoing off the worn walls of the Bamboo Grove’s shrine. The grove itself had clearly been put to good use many times over --- notches in the stalks, entire sections missing as if a scorched-earth approach had taken place. New shoots in the ground to promote regrowth. Yet here this burly man stood, the majority of his face cast in shadow, in the center of the grove itself. Why ?  ... Well, there was only one real reason, wasn’t there ?
