That was true, but Calamity really didn’t have much to lose. He was already disliked by half of the school and then the other half didn’t have a real opinion on him. He couldn’t care less if some people disliked him.
But he supposed that if Marcia didn’t want to do anything about it, then he didn’t want to do anything about it either. He mimicked her pose, jutting out one of his hips as he tapped his toe. The poster was pretty, he would give the school that. He voiced his opinion by holding up a sign. ‘Nice illustration though’
"Cal, can you tell me why schools host DANCES? I thought schools were about LEARNING, not swingin' with your buddies in dumb outfits..."
((SHIT I DIDNT SEE THIS UNTIL JUST NOW ??))
Calamity pondered for a second, his fingers on his chin before raising his sign. ‘Teens like them?’
Honestly, Calamity didn’t see the point in them either but he liked helping to decorate for them.

Calamity fidgeted a bit at the punch, rubbing his arm with his free hand before his attention was moved to the Martian treats. He sniffed the air in its direction, before turning up his nose. It didn’t smell too pleasant to him but he didn’t say anything.
He took another bite when he was stopped mid-chew when Marcia leaned against him. He blushed heavily from embarrassment and just stared at her for a second before turning his head forcefully to look ahead.
Gizmos? Yes, inventions. He had a few that he was working on. Most of which were made specifically to catch Lil’ Beeper. He nodded a bit. Marcia most likely wouldn’t be interested in his inventions for that. But he continued to think, his mind drifting to the complex 3D printer he was making. It could create anythig just by sand and water.
Marcia chuckled a bit, giving Calamity a light, friendly punch on the arm. She knew he got embarrassed whenever he started getting all ‘primitive’, but she appreciated his enthusiasm, and honestly did not mind.
She quickly took out her own Martian treats, which seemed to glow yellow inside their packages, with a rainbow filling on the inside. Ripping it open and taking a bite, she leaned over and rested her elbow on her friend’s shoulder. “So, got any new gizmos in mind?”

His fur fluffed up around his tail and neck as Marcia patted him. Calamity was still getting rather used having a friend. Most people at Acme Loo just left him alone on account he never spoke and had a tendency to read and stay in the lab. Physical contact was not something he was used to, especially kind contact at that.
He took a second to let his fur fall down before holding up another sign. ‘You can still try and talk them into-’ He held up another, ‘-lowering the amount that is held’
Or at least they could talk them into enforcing their students to actually learn more and take their education seriously. The amount of dances they had was quite absurd. If they wanted their students to have fun they could at least make it educational and make it relate to their studies.

Calamity licked his lips and his tail wagged as the roll was waved in front of him. Genius or not he was still a canine with canine instincts and they were showing quite strongly at the moment.
He quickly snatched it up and tore the wrapper off before remembering that he was more sophisticated than more primitive coyotes. He blinked, his tail slowing the wag and took a small bite of it, nodding in thanks to Marcia shyly, embarrassed of how he acted. He licked some of the cream off of the corner of his lip before taking another bite.
Marcia placed the bag on her lap and rummaged through, pulling out a few chocolate cream rolls that were only slightly squished, and some ice cream sandwiches miraculously still cold on a blazing late August afternoon.
“A little beat up but still the same quality.” She proclaimed, waving one of the chocolate rolls around in the air before handing it to her friend.

Calamity nodded shyly. He agreed that school should be strictly for education. And that was something that the school needed to focus more on, he thought. Too many students goofed off during class time and the staff really didn’t help much.
In all honesty, school dances sorta made him anxious. Everyone seemed to have a match and everyone seemed to have fun at them but in Calamity’s opinion there was nothing fun about dancing and screaming children all in one room together.
‘Write a letter to the school board’ Or at least that seemed like the best option to him.

Calamity plopped down on the bleacher and reached for his water bottle, guzzling down a good portion of it before setting it back down. His muscles felt sore and his limbs felt heavy from exhaustion. And they hadn’t even been running for very long.
His stomach rumbled at the mention of food, eyeing Marcia and then the bag, and then back at his companion. He shyly nodded, his ears drooping sheepishly. A small snack couldn’t hurt.
Calamity looked Marcia’s way as she ran up but did nothing more to acknowledge her until she was right up next to him. He narrowed his eyes at her. In his opinion she was being a tad condescending.
But still, he nodded and bent down, hands on his knees, again. Breathing was starting to become a tad easier now. He cast a forlorn look over by the bleachers across the field where his water bottle was. The coyote grunted, standing back up. He glanced at Marcia again before slowly making his way back to the bleachers. He held up a sign. ‘I’m taking a break’

“You still breathing, hep cat?” Marcia called from the other side of the field, running to the coyote. She managed to keep him in the corner of her eye in case any medical emergency took place. She was always at the Acme Loo track field in the afternoons, to prep herself for when she joins the Martian military.
She caught up to him and gave him a few hard pats on the back. “For what it’s worth, you did a heck of a lot better than last time!”

The small coyote breathed heavily as he bent over. His lungs were on fire and it certainly did not feel nice. Calamity felt like he was going to fall over on the field any second. Why did he think he come to the decision to work out? What sort of self loathing living being enjoyed this?
He brought himself up, stretching out his back while he brought his strength up again to continue running. The thought of going home crossed his mind, but soon followed the blistering truth that he needed to catch up to that darn roadrunner, and none of his inventions were working.
