The Louis Vuitton boutique at The Shops At The Bravern is now re-opened after renovation. The boutique has now expanded into what was formerly the Jimmy Choo space on the East wing of the second level of the shops beside Prada, and the expansion nearly doubled the Louis Vuitton boutique size. Louis Vuitton announced in 2021 that they would be undergoing construction to expand into a new space that was formerly occupied by another boutique. The boutique was expected to reopen in late 2021 according to a representative for The Shops At The Bravern, but re-opened in early 2022. 

Louis Vuitton was one of the first shops to open at The Shops At The Bravern in 2009 and its expansion was highly anticipated among Bravern residents due to the anticipated final collection of the late fashion designer and Louis Vuitton creative director Virgil Abloh.

Euphoria Snackable

HBO recently defended its popular series Euphoria against claims of a toxic work environment made by background actors on set. The background actors claimed that they were not given proper meals or access to the bathroom during 18 hour shoot days. Background actors also claimed that formal complaints were raised to SAG-AFTRA, a labor union for media professionals.

SAG-AFTRA did not confirm or deny whether a formal complaint was raised but did confirm a representative of the union did an on-site visit to ensure union guidelines were being practiced by cast and crew. In a statement released by HBO, the streaming service said that the filming of Euphoria was in full compliance of SAG-AFTRA guidelines. It has been confirmed that Euphoria has been renewed for a third season.

Sentence Reduced for Convicted Murderer Serving Life in Prison

Snohomish County – Convicted for the murder of Cynthia Nelson, Arthur Longworth’s original life in prison without parole sentencing has been reduced to 30 years. After serving 37 years, Longworth appeared in court at the Snohomish County Superior Court Tuesday, February 15th when the reduction was announced. After testimonies from Nelson's family, a psychologist, a former state representative, and a current sitting state cabinet secretary, Superior Court Judge Anna Alexander concluded that Longworth came before the court as a “changed man” (Goldstein-Street, 2022).

Longworth was convicted for the murder of Cynthia Nelson in 1985 after attempting to rob her and then stabbing her in her back when she resisted. He then drove and disposed of her body at The Little Pilchuck Creek not far from the hub of central Lake Stevens, WA in Snohomish County (Goldstein-Street, 2022).

About 11 minutes from The Little Pilchuck, Seattle Sun Tan Lake Stevens salon manager and community member Mollie Rattaree shared her perspective on the reduction of Longworth's sentencing saying, "Even though it's scary to think about what he did and how close it is to home, it sounds like he’s changed. I guess that’s the ideal outcome of imprisonment, you reflect on the crimes you commit and you either show you’ve changed or stay confined. I didn’t even know that happened here, I don’t think many people I know would recognize that name.”

After being incarcerated in 1985, Longworth received several infractions within the first decade of his imprisonment including violations for theft, lying to facility staff, possession of a weapon, and threatening assault. It was noted in the courtroom on Tuesday, February 15th that after he was married in 1994, his conduct improved and he began writing as well as studying Mandarin and Spanish. Longworth is also now a Spanish translator for the Department of Corrections and a teaching assistant for English as a second languages classes in prison. Longworth has also instructed university-level Spanish courses (Longworth, 2022).

Longworth has since become an acclaimed author and writer while being incarcerated. He has published two books, written for organizations such as VICE News and Yes! Magazine amongst other literary journals and his writings have been used in the curriculum of courses at Santa Clara University, University of Washington, and the University of Texas (Longworth, 2022).

Ester Stanton-Daly, a former Biology professor at the University of Tennessee and current Animal Science teacher at Monroe High School, said, "I believe that people deserve second chances especially when they show up and do the work it takes to actually show their growth. I know that some of my students get in trouble because of circumstances like the ones he was in at their age. I'm glad he's doing the time and I'm glad the victim's family got an apology". When asked if she would ever use the writing of a formerly convicted murderer for her courses at the University of Tennessee, Stanton-Daly said, "It depends on if it would be beneficial for the course objectives. I don't know what he writes about, but I wouldn't deny someone's academic value based on their past."

Longworth is set to be released from Monroe Correctional Complex in 2052 with 5 years of parole. Court papers state that Longworth plans to live on a ranch in northeastern Washington that he bought with $750,000 that he won in a lawsuit regarding abuse that he endured as a child in the foster system where he wants to start a nature therapy program with his sister Regina (Goldstein-Street, 2022).

Police Force Enlisted at The Bravern Louis Vuitton

After a trend of raiding and looting of many retailers following the height of the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020, The Shops at The Bravern have enlisted the service of armed police officers to protect its most high-volume boutique Louis Vuitton.

If you are a frequent visitor of The Bravern in Bellevue, you will notice that there is a police car parked outside of the Louis Vuitton boutique with one or two armed police officers on duty for the entire duration of store hours. This has led many shoppers and employees to wonder why there is a constant need for officers on the premises during business hours in addition to the 24-hour Bravern Security team raising questions about the safety of customers, employees, residents, and products.

On May 31st, Louis Vuitton boutique was a target of looters that ransacked multiple storefronts at The Bravern. While current Louis Vuitton employees declined to comment on the event that took place in May 2020. However, many employees at The Bravern were employed at the time of the raid; one being Julianne Fox, a client advisor at the Bottega storefront next to Louis Vuitton who shared her knowledge of the event and the repercussions.

“Every store's main concern was the safety of The Bravern employees, residents, and customers. We could hear glass breaking but not really any screams at first. Then we saw people running with their arms full of stuff. It became violent once the looters were in the street and people were stealing stolen products from other looters," said Fox.

Following the raid that occurred in May 2020, the burglaries did not stop. Fox shared that there had been smaller-scale burglaries following the raid in Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Moncler. The store manager of Gucci, Colleen Shien, could not provide details of the burglary due to corporate instruction but was able to confirm that the burglary had occurred and provided insight on steps that have been taken to ensure the safety of products and people at The Bravern.

"I can't speak on the details of that specific instance, but I can confirm that it happened so that residents are aware. Hit and runs have been a trend the past two years. I don't think the burglaries after the raid in 2020 had to do with the Black Lives Matter movement, it's been happening in different places randomly. Security has increased at The Bravern and Louis Vuitton has taken extra measures as they are so high volume and have some of the most inventory. I know there have been some burglaries there over time and store security isn’t armed. The police stay during store hours to keep watch, especially during holiday seasons,” said Shien.

The Bravern has taken other measures of security after reports of luxury retail burglaries across America in 2021 including an increase of Bravern Security, who patrol the shops during business hours in groups to ensure the safety of employees and customers and keep watch at night via security cameras to ensure the safety of storefronts and residents. Bravern Security did not respond to a request for comment on the enlistment of the police force or the looting that occurred in 2020.
