The Dwarfs are very clearly inspired mainly from Old Norse, so that's the main reference for Gimli's dress. There's also some other influences, like some Bronze Age Mediterranean influences and Iron Age Eastern Europe.

To me Tolkien's elves are very high Middle Ages and Gothic, but for Sindar I mixed in plenty of Celtic and especially Irish influence, and based Legolas' dress heavily on Irish léine.

Boromir's dress I based on mostly Byzantine but also some Medieval Arabic influences as I did for Faramir.

it's ArtFight season!!!

last year I had so much fun fighting for my first year! I started off maining traditional art and staying in my comfort zone, and I love the marker pieces that I made in those first few days. hungry for points, I stepped up my background game and started to make actual environments to elevate my attacks. after years of only drawing my own characters in blank voids of nothingness, this was already a big development.

Then, as I poured over other artists' references with an intense longing for digital skills, I figured there was no better time or venue for me to sit down and really develop a digital drawing habit. I'd had a $60 tablet for *years* and cycled through many drawing program free trials, but when I tried digital art in my teens I was always upset that my linework was shaky and so devoid of confidence compared to my traditional skills. The despair of not being instantly refined as I wanted to be did keep me from seriously working at it (and therefore making any real improvements) until last year. With time, a greater sense of my artistic value, and an acute envy for digital ArtFighters' prowess, I sat down at my computer and took up the fight. This art trading competition turned out to be the exact motivation I needed to actually work and get myself exactly where I dreamed of being.

I haven't stopped working on my digital technique and I know it really shines through in the difference between my references from last year and this year. I absolutely love my current digital style and I am elated that it is finally time to bring my new skills to the competition that motivated me to foster them. I am thrilled to show the artists I attacked last year how I can draw their characters now. I can't wait to keep finding artists to look up to and growing through this ArtFight and beyond :]

I'm not sure if I'm locked in for this as Beleg's design, but as with other Sindar elves, I took inspiration primarily from Celtic and especially Gaelic dress. Since this is the First Age, I did want to make it look more ancient than Third Age Sindar fashion and took some influence from ancient Greece.

Wonderlust 26

These are the lungs that Runt created in this week's episode. They are an actual d&d item that can be created. Under normal rules, all they require is attunement and they automatically replace your lungs. But Bizly and Grizzly realized that using these as a miracle fix would completely downplay Runt's disability and all of the struggles that led her to this point. Which is why they decided to make it require teleportation, with it already being established that teleportation causes explosions in this world. Runt had to roll to invent the lungs, build them, figure out how to neutralize the explosions, and then to teleport them safely into her body. There was a very real chance it could have failed. But Runt is the smartest girl in the world (and got the most clutch natural 20s the world has ever seen.)

Some more stuff from the rolled for those who don't have access: these lungs were not planned from the beginning. Grizzly found them only a week before this recording, after the last episode was already done. They hadn't been sure until this point what could be done to save Runt's life, and were mostly under the impression that her death at the end of this campaign was a given. All those times Runt was scribbling in her book while she was with the others, they were used in this episode to show she had been working on the plans for this invention for some time, but Grizzly said he originally intended that she was creating drawings to give to the rest of the party after she died.

These lungs are not a complete fix all. Runt is going to live to the end of the campaign (at least, it wont be her disease that kills her - Bizly says the finale will still be potentially deadly for all players), but her lungs were very probably not the only thing affected by the illness. Grizz says the lungs have extended her life by several years and certainly increased the quality of it, but she will eventually have to confront the effects of it again as her body runs down. This was not intended to be a cure. All she wanted was a little more time. And that's what she got.
