What if DT had something like an adoptive parent? Not officially but someone who they trusted and who gave them a place to sleep or crash at if they needed to lay low for a while or needed food?

I just imagine Double Trouble having to work all the time for food or shelter and even though I know they can take care of themselves, it saddens me to think they had been sad, cold, sick, hurt, starving or just needing someone to help them or comfort them and had no one. I guess I just hope Double Trouble has at least one person in their life who they know they can turn to and be safe with.

I'm so glad you sent me this because I have played out this exact scenario a couple times in my daydreams.

Long post, you know the drill.

My main scenario is that Huntara raised baby DT and took care of them until they left as a teen.

This mostly pairs with the backstory I gave them. The abrudged version is they were the princess of Green Glade, but the Horde invaded and killed their mother and siblings. Huntara was part of that raid, and she was starting to realize that the Horde's values didn't align with hers when she rounded a corner and saw a 1-year-old DT curled up on the dead body of their mother, crying into her. Huntara defected then and there, escaping and bringing DT with her.

She took them to the Crimson Waste and looked after them. She never saw herself as a mother (and certainly wouldn't let them CALL her that), but she effectively was. As she built her gang, DT was by her side the whole way, going from a scared little kid to a mischievous pickpocket and escape artist. Once DT was big enough to steal money and food, they were able to contribute to the gang's earnings.

DT forgot who they'd been before, that they had ever had another family. Their only clue to their former life was their old baby blanket, which they'd been wrapped in when Huntara carried them out. They continued to sleep with it as a comfort object, and if anyone tried to pick on them for it or take the blanket from them, Huntara would make sure that didn't happen again. If a new member had a busted lip or black eye, everyone knew they'd messed with Huntara's kid.

Huntara called them "Kiddo" for most of their life, especially because she didn't want any low-life criminals knowing that the long-lost Princess Duality was among them, and they didn't pick a new name until a few years later. Even as an adult, they're still "Kiddo" to Huntara. They've called her "Mom" only a few times, and only in secret. Sometimes accidentally.

She taught them how to fight, how to steal, how to read and write, etc. They have many fond memories of her and feel close to her.

There was a time when there was a rift in their relationship, however. Although DT forgot who they'd been, they remembered Huntara telling them to keep their identity a secret, especially from the Horde. She warned them they'd be in danger of the Horde ever caught them, so they avoided Horde soldiers while under her care.

One day, when DT was 15, another gang member discovered their identity and tried to turn them in. When Horde soldiers came for them, they assumed Huntara must have sold them out because they thought she was the only one that knew. Outraged and heartbroken at the betrayal, after they defeated the Horde soldiers (and "dealt" with them), they confronted Huntara. They didn't believe her when she swore she hadn't told, and they ran away from home after that.

They stewed in bitterness, believing the woman who raised them--the one they thought of as a mother--had tried to sell them out for a bag of coins. This moment is what gave them trust issues and made them want to destroy connections before they could form. They also intentionally took jobs that would annoy her, like working for Tung Lashor as a spy for a brief time.

Seven years later, DT saw Huntara helping Adora, Perfuma, and Bow and recognized them as part of the Rebellion (saw them at Princess Prom). Purely to spite Huntara, they offered their services to the Horde instead. They figured it had been long enough that no one in the Horde would recognize them, especially if they didn't give their real name. They guessed correctly.

Post-war, DT and Huntara run into each other again, and Huntara tells them the whole story of what happened that day. When DT finally believes her, they feel angry at themselves for hurting over a misunderstanding all this time. The two reconnect, and after a while, it feels like they were never apart at all.

“Does it hurt to shape shift? Like…cause you physical pain or discomfort if you do it too much or make you feel sick?”

"Thank you for your concern, darling, but I assure you, shapeshifting is as painless as lifting a finger. I've had practice ever since birth, and I'm a natural at it! If I tried to surpass my limits, it may cause some discomfort, but I'm very careful not to let that happen. Can't let a grimace cause me to break character!"

I think, especially given how quick and fluid DT's shifting is, it probably doesn't hurt them. Because it's so fluid, it doesn't give the same vibe as a character who feels their bones changing and repositioning when they shift (like werewolves). Given that they can shift in a fraction of a second, it must be easy as pie for them.

I do wonder if they can shapeshift into non-humanoid forms, too, or if they're limited to humanoids. I usually stick with the latter, so I imagine something outside of that would be harder to maintain and maybe hurt or strain them.

Draw This in Your Style Contest

On July 12th, my blog will turn three years old! Three years of drawing the same lizard twink in various stylish outfits, discussing headcanons, writing fanfic, and filling that lizard-shaped void in all our hearts.

So, to celebrate all that, I wanted to host a Draw This in Your Style contest! I got the idea to turn this challenge into a contest (with free commissions as prizes) from @.dorilefish (their original post here).

The competition will run from now until July 11th at 11:59 PM CST, and the winners will be announced on July 12th!

1st Place will receive: A full-body commission of any one character/OC of your choosing.

2nd Place will receive: A half-body commission of any one character/OC of your choosing.

3rd Place will receive: A portrait commission of any one character/OC of your choosing.

Important: No NSFW commissions will be accepted, but I will do pinup art like how you've seen me do for DT.

The characters do NOT have to be SPOP-related like my usual requests! It can be any character, one of your OCs, or even yourself or your sona! I have put some examples of non-DT art under the cut so you can get an idea what my art looks like outside of one (1) slutty lizard.

Random Double Trouble Headcanon:

When they shapeshift into someone they actually like for whatever reason, they intentionally exaggerate or add on to an already existing feature of the person or “taking creative liberties” as they like calling it. For example, when they shapeshift into Huntara they’ll add fangs and make her bottom fangs/tusks bigger because they find her tusks her most attractive physical feature. Or like in the episode, Fractures, where they shapeshifted into Adora and made her hair proof way bigger, I see that as them finding her hair proof cute and overall finding her cute in like a puppy way.

Do you have any headcanons of Double Trouble in love? Like cloud 9, flower petal picking, happy and dreamy mood in love???

Maybe it’s a crush they desperately want to hide (blurting out only once-when Glimmer put that ‘truth spell’ on them that one time-they made Glimmer swear secrecy!) or maybe they’ve been with this person for a while but they just recently confessed their feelings for each other? Which ever you like!

This opinion may not be shared by all, and other readings of the character are valid, but I personally believe that DT has the capacity to care about others, and does so more often than people would think. Sadistic, mischievous, and self-absorbed, yes, but not heartless. But here's the thing: DT will still betray people if it's in their own best interest, regardless of how much they care about them. This is how I think they were able to genuinely like Catra (as I believe they did) and still stab her in the back without remorse.

With that in mind, I think DT in love would have to put in extra effort not to betray their beloved. They have to consciously fight off old habits in order to keep their beloved happy and not to lose them, because they don't want to lose them.

Although DT would have some personal growth to do before being able to commit to a relationship, I've already talked about that in some other asks, so I want to focus on fluff this time.

Let's start with DT having a massive crush on someone and being positively giddy with puppy love about it. DT doesn't shy away from touch in general, so imagine how cuddly they'd be if they LIKED someone! They'd probably try to play it off as casual affection if they were trying to hide their crush, but they'd definitely be more touchy than normal, like wanting to rest their hand on their crush's arm or leaning on them.

They'd also want to make their crush laugh, too. Much in the same way they used their shapeshifting to entertain Catra, they'd take all sorts of forms, either silly ones or people their crush disliked, and act ridiculous to make them smile.

They'd probably try to study their crush, as well, both their personality and appearance. They'd want to be able to mimic them perfectly, to really figure them out. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, after all. Besides, they'd also want to ensure their crush would say "yes" if they asked them out.

DT would be in a happy mood, being less of a nuisance to others as they'd be so preoccupied with their crush. They'd probably do nice things for their crush, but be sneaky about it so no one would know it was them. They'd also be defensive of their crush, but still try to be subtle about it. If someone insulted their crush, they'd have a clap-back ready to go, but they wouldn't come off as being particularly protective in order to keep up appearances that their crush isn't more important than a regular friend.

If DT was in a committed relationship and hopelessly in love, they'd do a lot of the same shows of affection, but they'd be obvious about it this time. No sense in hiding it if they've already scored the partner. In fact, they'd brag about their wonderful relationship with their stunning, kind, loving partner and make sure everyone knows about how happy they are together. They're big on PDA and love taking their partner on flashy dates.

They especially like to show off to their partner and get their approval, be it acting, fashion, playing an instrument, etc. Their partner's applause is the sweetest sound in the world--well, right after this one: "I love you."
