Useful Checklist to Maintain Your Plumbing System
Taking care of your home is no mean feat, especially if you do it all by yourself. There are so many things that need to be looked after, that it can get overwhelming sometimes. Home maintenance is a separate job in itself which requires you to devote time to it regularly and throughout the year, making sure that you’ve covered all the aspects; and there are so many. So to manage one small aspect of this huge task, we are giving you a helpful checklist that will help you in keeping track of all of your plumbing problems and signs of potential problems that may arise. It will aid you in addressing them before they become a real issue. Simply go through the list and you’ll end up with a complete check-up of your home’s plumbing that’ll help you in a thorough maintenance of the whole plumbing system.
Tumblr media
First thing you need to do is survey the whole plumbing system by counting the number of appliances and pipes. This includes the plumbing machinery that operates the toilet, basins, showers, taps and bathtubs, as well as other areas that function through a plumbing system, such as kitchen and laundry areas like dishwasher, sinks, drains, pipelines connected to the washing machine, etc.
o   Look for signs of leakage in pipes that are visible. For pipes embedded in the walls, see if you can spot flaky paint, watermarks, etc.
o   Check for corrosion. Green stains around parts made of brass and copper and orange stains on steel/iron pipes are sure-shot signs of rusting. Corrosion of pipes can cause leaks, seepage and bad pipe connections.
o   Test the water pressure. Observe the force with which the water flows from taps, faucets, showerheads, etc. Low pressure (weak force) of water indicates sediment formation in the pipeline. Remove the caps of the taps and showerheads to look for any sediment that may have accumulated over time.
o   Inspect sink, shower and tub drain for slow speeds of drainage. Slow and obstructive drainage may indicate a blocked drain or a vent pipe. The water should pass with a full swirl, without any pauses or bubbling.
o   Check the flushing handle and mechanism of the toilets. You can do this by flushing the toilets. See if the quantity of the water in the flush is adequate, buttons are working smoothly and water spills outside the seat, etc. A negative on any of these indicates a problem.
o   Water seepage can swell the plaster on the walls, loosen up the tiles on floor/wall, aid the growth of fungus, and cause corrosion. Look for any of these signs in the bathroom, kitchen, room and ceilings.
o   Check if the tub, sink or toilet caulking is coming off.
o   Look for mildew, which is caused by stagnant water that may have dried up.
o   Push and pull gently on each toilet to see if it is fixed properly or has gotten loose.
o   To remove the sediment collected in the water heater, drain it once in a while.
o   Check all the taps in your home by running them and looking for any water coming out of the joint.
o   Inspect all the hoses including the one on the washing machine, to look for any cracks and leaks.
Perform the inspection using this checklist on an annual or bi-annual basis to ensure that you address the plumbing issues in a timely fashion and stop them from growing into major problems. CallFixie provides trained and certified plumbers that are skilled and experienced. They will cater to all of your plumbing needs at affordable rates and will visit your place at the scheduled time without delay. Once the booking is done, CallFixie will provide you support at each and every step until the job is complete. Booking is very simple. Just visit www.callfixie.in or dial 8000 600 111. Whatever it is, contact CallFixie and get it fixed.

Car Maintenance Made Easy
Cars are a complex piece of machinery. It’s not shocking to spot many of them breaking down in the middle of the roads on our daily commutes. Despite following a regular servicing schedule, a car’s performance can be affected by issues that can arise from an array of sources. To simplify your job of sifting through these numerous causes of problems, we have compiled a checklist of useful car maintenance information and tips.
Oil
Oil plays an important role in keeping the health of the engine stable. It reduces friction between parts of the engine and thus, ensures optimum performance. Oil level should be regularly checked, oil should be replaced with correct grade as specified by manufacturer and maximum recommended oil level should not be exceeded.
Tyre
A lot rides on the condition of tyres. It is essential that tyres are taken proper care of. Tyres should be checked regularly for signs of wear and tear. Properly maintained tyre will improve fuel economy, extend tyre life and improve vehicle safety. Tyre pressure should be checked every two weeks and wheel alignment and balancing should be done every six months. Vibrations in the steering wheel may indicate the tyres may require balancing, while irregular patterns of wearing may mean a lack of alignment.
Battery
The battery is a crucial part of the car's electrical system and one of the major causes of car breakdowns. Battery terminals should be checked regularly for carbon formation. Ensure the battery is secure and the wiring is not damaged. Batteries should be replaced every 3-4 years as battery failures often occur without any warning, which may turn out to be dangerous to your life.
Brakes
Brakes are the most important part of your vehicle’s safety. Improperly maintained brakes can increase braking distances significantly which can turn out to be dangerous to the lives of the passengers. Squealing brakes generally indicate your brakes need to be replaced. Regularly check the brake fluid level and ensure that fluid level is full. Overfilling is not advisable and should be avoided.
Suspension
Similar to brakes, suspensions play an important part in ensuring a vehicle’s safety. Worn out suspensions can cause accidents by negating the braking action to some extent and hence, allowing the vehicle to move beyond the intended stopping point. Suspension components should be checked regularly for any signs of physical damage and excess wear. Fluid levels of shock absorbers should be maintained and fluid leaks should be plugged. Symptoms like steering wheel vibration or nose diving when stopping are signs of suspension problems.
Transmission
To ensure smooth performance during gear-shifting, keep a regular eye on transmission fluid levels. Due to poor road construction, it is easy to damage the lines through which transmission fluid passes. Look for any dripping liquid under your car’s chassis as it may indicate a possible transmission fluid leak. Ensure fluid is not discoloured or burnt and always use the correct type of oil for your car.
Taking proper care of your car is your responsibility. If you keep a regular check on the above mentioned components of your car, then you will have a better idea of when exactly is your car due for its servicing and it will help you avoid any unfavourable circumstances that may arise otherwise.

4 Types of Timber to Enliven Your Home Interiors
Wood is one of the most popular elements that are used in interior designing. From bedroom to living room to kitchen and bathroom, wood is an interior design essential which can be used in numerous ways to give a range of themes – from rustic to modern - to a living space, depending on the grains and shades. There are several varieties of wood – both natural and man-made – that, if used skilfully, can liven up the look and feel of the whole interior. We are listing four of the famous and trendy wood types that you can incorporate into your décor to bring style, elegance and luxury to your room.
Oak Wood
Oak trees are known for their strength and magnitude.  Commonly found in backyards and parks to provide shade due to their sheer size, oak trees yield timber which is sturdy and makes for a perfect option to carve the furniture out of. Aesthetically pleasing and highly durable, oak wood can be used in designing the kitchen elements like dining table and chairs, kitchen cabinets and drawers and even counter tops. It can endure the harshest of wear and tear that happens over a long period of continuous usage.
Teak Wood
Teak wood provides you with an opportunity to bring the splendour and majesty of the tropics to your home. World’s largest living tree, Teak tree is also the national tree of the Philippines, and is used majorly in constructing doors, window frames and both indoor and outdoor furniture. Found in tones such as brown, green and yellow, teak wood is also renowned for its silver-grey colour which it bears when matured and processed.
Maple Wood
Maple wood’s colour, grain and texture are one of its most unique qualities that are easily recognizable and make it highly sought after. Its light yellowish taint grants it a luxurious and a sophisticated character which make it a perfect choice for home interiors. This beautiful hardwood bears a stark and evident grain and is considered to be décor in itself. It is constructed into floors, furniture, wall panels, decorative wooden pieces, etc.
Cedar Wood
A perfect choice for closet and chest material, cedar wood is known for its effective deterrent qualities against moths and other insects and odour repellent properties. Found around the world, cedar has a wide variety of trees, and has those signature shades of red and reddish brown that will lay an authentic old world charm to your interiors. This multipurpose wood exudes a sweet scent that not only makes any living area fragrant, it keeps the bugs out. Majorly used in fencing, house structuring, shingles, guitars, and even shipbuilding, cedar will pass the test of time and stand strong.
There are many other kinds of wood which will each ornate the interiors in its own unique way, giving interiors a desired complexion owing to their individual characteristics. Some other popular types are mahogany, cherry, walnut, rosewood, etc. Depending on their treatment, shade, grain, etc. wooden elements in a décor can enliven a space giving it many different styles and themes.

Ingredients for a Clean House
You don’t need to waste money on numerous cleaning products that are not only expensive but sometimes toxic too. When it comes to house cleaning, may not need to look anywhere other than, well your own home! There are several common food items which are readily available at most homes and can produce excellent results when used in cleaning. We are listing the most common ones below:
Tumblr media
Vinegar
White vinegar is probably the best all-purpose cleaner around. It is very cheap, completely non-poisonous to humans and can be used in laundry, kitchen cleaning and even pest control. This wonder staple can be used to wipe surfaces, windows, fridge, etc. Just mix it with water and start your spring-cleaning.
Lemon
Lemon is also a multipurpose natural cleaner which can clean almost any surface or object in your house. Along with having superb cleaning properties, lemon also acts as an odour repellent due to its natural aroma. Lemon juice can be mixed with water or used wholly to remove dirt, rust, limescales, odour, etc. Lemon peels and water can also be used to make a handy and fragrant cleaning liquid.
Baking Soda
Baking soda shares many qualities with vinegar that make it one of the best cleaning substances. It is cheap, non-toxic and readily available. It is a cleaning all-rounder too and will clean almost anything. It can also be used to get rid of odours. A bowl full of it will suck in the foul odour when kept for some time in a closed space like a drawer or fridge. It comes handy in putting out grease fires, removing stains and burned food residue.
Salt
Salt has cleaning properties that range from scrubbing and stain removal to deodorizing and whitening. If your doctor prohibits you from putting more salt in your diet then you can certainly utilise the excess amount while cleaning. Hot water and salt solution can be used to unclog and deodorize drains and sinks. While mopping your floor, add salt to the solution for whiter (or brighter) looking tiles. Salt makes up for a perfect scrub and can be directly applied on the objects.
Soda/Cola
Yes, you read it right. You must have read in the news about the harmful effects of flavoured soda drinks and how they should be used to clean commodes. Well, we can’t say if they should be but we know they can be. Cola has acidic properties that can reduce the minerals that make up the stains and spots on the toilet seat. It can also be used to clean drains and sinks. Just pour the drinks all over the seat or into the drain and flush with water after waiting for 30-40 minutes.
If sometime, you’re not feeling so great about cleaning your home yourself even with these awesome ingredients lying around, you can contact CallFixie and book a professional cleaning service at affordable prices. Visit http://www.callfixie.in/ or call at 8000 600 111.

How to Preserve the Colours of your Clothes?
Washing clothes is in itself a very exhausting activity. But what makes this household chore even more difficult is using correct and safe methods to ensure the quality of the clothes doesn’t deteriorate along with time. One of the major problems that common people face is preserving the colours of the clothes after repeated washing cycles. We are mentioning a few common tricks that can help you to protect the colours of your clothes effectively.
Preserving the Precious ‘Whites’
Our white clothes never tend to stay their whitest best. No matter how hard you try to maintain their whiteness, they always end up turning slightly blue, grey or yellow. Don’t give up though. You can use these tried and trusted methods, so that your whites stay white.
>Soak your white clothes in a solution of water and bicarbonate soda for some time. Mix 180g of soda in 4 litres of water.
Or
>Dissolve a few aspirin tablets in hot water and soak your clothes in the solution for some time. During machine wash, add 250 ml of white vinegar to the rinse cycle.
Ensuring Black is indeed Black
Black is always in – only in fashion perhaps; it doesn’t stay “in” on the clothes forever. Black or dark-coloured clothes tend to fade quickly. Although faded clothes are a fashion trend, you don’t want every piece of dark-coloured cloth you own look seasoned and washed out. Follow these handy tips to take better care of your clothes.
>While washing your clothes in the machine, add 2 cups of brewed coffee or tea to the rinse cycle for your blacks and 1 cup of table salt for dark colours.
>For those solid-coloured denim clothes that you don’t want to look washed, soak them in salt water or a solution of water and white vinegar in equal proportions before the first wash. Lower the temperature setting to cold during the second wash cycle.
Retaining the Rest of them
Clothes go through rigorous cycles of washing and drying and daily wear and tear over and over. If we were put through all the tumbling and whirling that our clothes go through, we’ll probably look a little washed out too. Take these useful tips to ensure your favourite T-shirt looks as good as it did on the store shelf.
>Baking soda is an effective colour retainer. Add half a cup of baking soda to the rinse cycle to make your clothes to look clean and bright.
>Add half a cup of salt to the rinse cycle. Salt prevents the dyes in coloured fabrics from bleeding. This will also prevent your clothes from accidently getting dyed with the wrong colours.
You can also contact CallFixie to do your laundry. We offer verified professionals with experience and proper knowledge who will take full care of your clothes and will deliver them to your doorstep. Call us at 8000 600 111 now.
