Hohe Schlüsselblume / Oxlip (Primula elatior)

One of the first signs of spring in my local forest: oxlips popping up right beside the Bärlauch/wild garlic. Last year I candied some of the flowers for my spring foraged feast and I may do so again this year. A word of caution though, oxlip and cowslip are both endangered in many places, so be sure to be familiar with their status in your area before picking any. Here in Upper Austria, cowslip is fully protected but oxlip may be picked in small quantities.
