Apollo is known as a wandering god because he was worshipped and known far beyond the bounds of Ancient Greece. In fact, he was a foreign addition to the Greek pantheon—believed to have Mesopotamian origins unlike indigenous deities such as Zeus, Hera, and Hermes. He was made Artemis’ brother to elevate his status and has been an integral figure in ancient Hellenic beliefs ever since,

Additionally, Apollo shares many similarities to the Hindu sun god Surya, down to the aspect of driving a sun chariot across the sky. Considering his brother Dionysus was also worshipped in a small region in India (as per one of his myths where he colonized India and taught the people how to worship him, leading to an isolated community in northwestern India being hellenists), I don’t think it would be a stretch for Apollo to have traveled the same distance, perhaps simply being known and worshipped by a different name.

And that’s why I drew Apollo in Majapahit clothing, which was one of the last pre-Islamic, Hindu-Buddhist monarchies in the Indonesian archipelago because I like to think he traveled that far and got to enjoy our little tropical paradise.
