missnovakaine:
Main street of Elkridge Hollow was mostly quiet on Thursday morning. That is, until Jules walked out of her favorite coffee shop and decided to disturb the peace and quiet. “Sunshineeeeee!” Jules practically groaned out, letting her head tip back so all the rays could hit her face as her arms extended outwards. “Summer has basically arrived and I’m here for itttttt.” Yes, Jules was talking to herself, and yes, she had a much needed break from work for the next two weeks. Maybe she’d go to Disney. She could totally go for some Disney World right about now.
“I think we can finally put those random snowstorms behind us.” Calli smiled, carefully interrupting the girls solo monologue. Patrol was a bittersweet part of the job, sure it gave her time to be amongst everyone. But they also understood exactly why the police were among them more than usual. Still, the sunshine was nice.

“Yes, I am a year older. Thank you.” After twenty one, Lee was unsure if birthdays really held the same weight as they used to. He didn’t feel any different, nothing had really changed and with that, Lee went back to organising the returns that the person had placed on his desk.
“Oh come on, you have to be doing something to celebrate.” Calli whined, birthdays past twenty-one definitely weren’t the same. But with all that was happening lately, celebrating that you made it another year seemed like an important thing to do in this town. “At least let me treat you to a cupcake.”

“Yeah your brother got a little carried away with the drinks… So did I and I won’t lie to you, we did end up stumbling back to my place and crashed on the couch.”, he knew it was wrong and felt guilty for making her go through that but he couldn’t lie to Calli. Not now, not ever. “So my apologies. It won’t happen again. You have my word.”, he held on tight when she pushed the swing, smiling. “It was great, I really enjoyed it, we should tell Trez to do these events more often.”
Theory confirmed, and people wonder how she became a cop. If confessions always came as easily as they did with Dom and Andrew, they’d already have their killer by now. Pushing a little harder so he could go further, Calli’s mind started to run away from her. Picking apart the sentence before deciding that, whether they crashed together on the couch, or alone on the couch, or not on the couch at all was none of her business. He did say we crashed on the couch though, right?
Is this why he and Jules? Again, not her business. And she really didn’t care why or how they broke up or what he did to feel better, as long as everyone involved was alright at the end of the day. “No hard feelings, as long as everyone turned out alright.” She shrugged, “I do have a killer costume idea for a 2000′s themed night.”

At least Calli could let him take the blame on this one. He’d really have to pull himself together and make it up to her in the next few weeks, or he’d just keep feeling guilty for way too long. He still felt guilty for things he did in his teen years, honestly, it was a feeling he liked to harvest. “I’ll make the best damn toast you’ve ever had,” he declared, pulling away just a little. “Come on, then.”
“And I’ll get you something for that hangover headache.” She mirrored his enthusiasm, guiding them both around the furniture and into the kitchen where it looked like an IHOP had just finished exploding.

Andrew smiled, rolling his eyes in a playful manner before taking the swing. “I hope I don’t break it.”, he glanced up then at her, rocking back and forth gently. “The highlight? Well… Except for the fact I had way too much alcohol, I remember hanging out with your brother, it was a fun time.”, he couldn’t remember much but the parts he could remember were laughing and overall a chill bit, which he appreciated. “Yours? Except the time you spent with me, of course, I know it’s hard to top that.”, he smiled.
Dom? Calli thought back and wondered if she remembered seeing them together throughout the night and maybe she did vaguely but it still surprised her. Was Ward the reason he’d ditched her at the end of the night? Keeping her face even, Calli moved behind him and started pushing the swing. “Yeah I was wondering what he was up too. He tried to sneak in the morning off, and knocked over half the shelf.”
Thinking over the night, there had been a lot of highlights she could of have picked. Making out with Kurt Cobain, dancing with A.C., watching Rogue eat Chex Mix, Trez carrying her off the dancefloor, dancing, drinking and talking with everyone else. “The whole night was one highlight after the next.”

Dominic’s heart broke at the thought of Calli waiting for him and eventually giving up and just walking home. Yes, obviously she could take care of herself, him walking home alone at night was probably more dangerous than the other way around, but still. He had this big biting need to protect his family and he’d failed at that tonight. And for what? To play Confused Teenager at his friend’s house? God. He was such an ass. It would take a while until he got over that one, even if Calli seemed okay.
“I’m sorry,” he murmured, the only thing he could think of saying at the moment. Usually he would be more careful invading anyone’s personal space, and he was a big fan of just letting people initiate contact, Calli especially, but right then, he needed a hug. So he pulled her close and sighed out all of the suffocating guilt in his lungs and tried not to pout too hard or he’d make himself cry. “I owe you, big time,” he muttered. “You can be mad at me if you want, y’know, I deserve this one.”
She let him hug her, the closeness’ intention never in question when it came to her brother. He needed her, she’d be there providing the framework for him to collapse into. And she could almost feel it, the way the air left his body and how it twisted her stomach in knots until she felt him inhale again. “You do,” Owe her, and deserve it. “But I’m not worried about being mad at you. I’m making breakfast, you’re on toast duty.” She didn’t break the hug though, not for a second.

“I’m failing to see your point though. Have you never seen a penis before?” he joked. He made a “boing-oing-oing” sound when Calli whacked the dildo. “You are very charming, I will give you that. But c’mon, you have to use your badge more than you’re letting on.” He let out a small laugh. “Is it a good discount though? I’m only gonna ask if it’s good. This is a tough economy we’re working in these days y’know.”
“Nah, first time.” She deadpanned, going in for a second whack. “This is how you use it right?” Moving her sunglasses down, she looked up at him with two bambi eyes that almost dared you to say something. Before they fell back down to her badge. “ It’s about an eighty percent charm, twenty percent badge split. And it gets me ten to twenty percent depending on what is it, how much I’ve pissed them off in the past and how much I bat my eyes.”

“Oh. So this was your doing? You put these kids up to this?” He nodded his head slowly, eyes narrowing towards her. Then a smirk lifted onto his face. Lucien slowly moved towards her, his arms held out. “Hey, you want a hug, Calli?” Before she could even answer the question, he wrapped his arms around her in a hug, letting his wet hair brush her face. “I just thought you needed a hug.”
“Don’t even think about,” Before she could even think to back away, or even finish her protest she was locked in his bear grip. She’d considered retaliation as an outcome before pulling the prank, but always thought she’d be able to outrun him if the circumstances called for it. He’d been quicker then she expected, that was for sure. “Lucien!” The water was cold enough for her to let out a yelp of his name, before it turned into laughter and Calli trying her best to lean away from the hair dampening her face.

“I admit it, yes, I got a little too drunk. It happens.”, he followed her, hands in his pockets. “I had, yeah. Good to take my mind off things, even if only for a few hours.”, when they stopped, his eyes wandered away. “But at least everyone’s okay and that’s the most important thing, I’m happy I barely have any work to do today. Except for the older cases, of course, which we’re still handling, looking for answers.”, he shrugged his shoulders, out of instinct.
A hand waved over the swing seat, inviting him to sit before taking the one beside him. “Relax, Ward. Everyone here thinks you deserved the night off.” Gesturing to the empty playground and finally to herself, she cracked a smile at him and started to rock back onto her heels. Calli wanted to bring him here after what he’d said last night. Just too clear his head and get his mind off things, not to cast judgment where she had no right too. “So,” She said glancing around. “What was the highlight? Other then my epic dance moves, of course.”

“If you’re going to use social media to talk about a product that you’re using or a movie that you’re promoting, then it’s equally important to use those platforms for something that’s more selfless. If I can get a 15-year-old girl who is enraged about a certain relationship on a vampire show and get them equally enraged about the situation with black lives and police issues in America right now, then great.”

domwinters:
Back then, when they were kids, Dominic was sort of afraid of Calli, in the same way he was afraid of Lorelai, or his mom. He was afraid he’d get yelled at and have his videogame taken away for the weekend, or that he wouldn’t be able to go to the next school trip, or that he wouldn’t get to have pizza on Fridays. Now though, they were all grown up. Now he knew no one would take his playstation away or cut off his TV hours.
But it was so much worse because it was the very real threat of disappointing his sister, instead; it was the idea that Calli wasn’t mad or angry, she was just upset. And she had every right to be, he knew that, he was a dick not letting her know where he was going off to. God, he remembered the one time he forgot to tell his mom he was sleeping at a friend’s, he remembered the panic phone call and all the tears he had to handle on the next morning.
“I should. I really should’ve, it was– everything is such a mess, I’m sorry, Calli,” he sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of his nose, willing his wavering voice to chill the fuck out and steady itself. “Did you–… God, did you get someone to drop you off, at least? I’m such an idiot, I’m sorry, fuck.”
Closing some of the distance between them, a sympathetic look came over her face. Sure, she was upset that he hadn’t let her know. But not upset enough to let him work himself up like this, their was a duality to Dom that she thought would always exist in her mind. Standing here, as much as she saw the grown man he was, she still saw her baby brother. Small and lanky, with the best of intentions and a heart that was so big, it’s walls were stretched as thin as paper.
A hand reached out to ruffle his hair, her tone slipping into a softer version of it’s usual playfulness. “Ah come on, I’m a big bad slayer. I didn’t need anyone to walk me home.” The only reason she’d wanted him to was because she liked the company. “We’re square,” Her hand slide down to give a comforting rub to his back as she lead him into sitting on her couch.

domwinters:
Now, Dominic knew ditching someone was a dick move. But ditching a sister who was a cop, a sister whose partner had lost his own sibling to, in this crime wave happening in town? He might as well take the Worst Person Award home.
After carefully putting decorations back into place he was startled by her voice and turned to greet her. “I’m so sorry,” he blurted out, feeling emotion already crawl up his throat and make home there. God, he was sensitive on a good day, let alone half-drunk and half-hungover as he was. He felt little again, like when he was ten and he accidentally broke one of her favorite CDs and he knew she’d get mad about it. “I passed out. I… hi. I’m sorry.”
Calli’s face softened hearing that oh so familiar shake in his voice, the memory of her teen angst soundtrack shattered to pieces still a vivid memory in her mind. It was an Avril CD, either Let Go or Under My Skin, she couldn’t even remember now, but she’d been devastated. The preteen type of devastated that included doors slamming and shouting not only between her and him but also Lorelai who was trying to handle it while their mom was working. Hormones were a bitch. “You should of texted.” She said, and stood by it. Even in spite of knowing all the shit she’d pulled in her past. He should have texted, or told her he was leaving, because their was a murderer on the loose. Or because then she wouldn’t have waited. Or because he’d been on this side of the argument before.
Still because she’d been on his side, she sighed and let her head drop into her chest. What was it their mother said when she’d disappeared to their dad’s for a night? I value your independence, but never as much as your life. Something like that.
She’d rolled her eyes then, and she was not trying to be Dom’s mother the way Lorelai had slowly become another one of theirs. But she did feel like it resonated, a little bit.

“The children in this town are the fucking worst. Why are they carrying around water guns? Where the hell are their parents?” He started taking off the shirt he was wearing that was stuck to his body just from the water. All Lucien had been doing was trying to go visit his sister and apparently kids thought it would be fun to spray water at a detective. “I’m never checking up on my sister again if those kids are out there. I’m scared of kids now. As if I wasn’t already.”
Slipping the kids a five Calli smirked, “We were aiming for the face guys, but I guess this will do.” Watching them scatter she gave a little wave of mocking greeting. Dark sunglasses shielding half of the smart ass look on her face. “Thought you’d need a pick me up after last night.” Though she hadn’t imagined it would get him out of his shirt, that was her bad.

“A firm talking to about what?” He grimaced. “Officer, I’m a law-abiding citizen. I pay my taxes on time. I look both ways before cross the street. Most of the time. I assure you there’s no disturbing of the peace.” He still didn’t understand how Calli ended up being a cop in the first place. He must’ve thought about it at least ten times a day. “How many times do you use that badge to get what you want? And if it’s a lot of times, can I borrow it one of these days?”
“You waved a blow up doll with a falice attached to it outside your building.” Calli laughed, she was of course playing with him. Even as she explained, she leaned over and wacked the bobbing silicone in question. But the elderly would think she handled it, and that was what mattered. “The badge is a last resort, everything I get is on charm alone.” Letting her glasses slide down her nose, Calliope batted her eyelashes at him. “I will let you use my discount if you ask nicely.”

“You must be the only person in the town who doesn’t look like they’re dying.”, Andrew put an arm around Calli’s shoulders, staring at whatever she was staring. The park? The park. He wasn’t sure what exactly in the park but that didn’t matter. “Which is insane, you must’ve had a bunch of water because sweetheart, you were gooooone.”, he giggled, squeezing her shoulder so she knew he was joking and meant no harm.

“Ah, I just know how to hide it better.” Calli smiled over to him, she’d been looking at the monkey bars behind her dark sunglasses. “I was gone? Speak for yourself, Ward.” She teased him playfully, and started making her way over to the swing. “Did you have a good time?”
