It’s not like one person is just so in love and the other is just cruel. No, it’s not like that at all. People fall in love and sometimes, we hurt the ones we love. Often times, we hurt the one that we love the most. 

The Last Time

I love when the song is coming to a close and both Taylor and Gary Lightbody are singing “this is the last time I’m asking you this”. You can hear her voice, calm, and almost exhausted, while his is more desperate and emotional.

Because in the song, she gave him a world of chances yet he continued to fail her, so she grew tired of the same antics over and over. She’s practically used to the disappointment. But he’s truly upset with himself, and he feels defeated because there is no justification” he hurt her time and time again, but he really never meant to. His intentions were good in the start, and now he’s just left wondering, “How did I let this happen to us?”

Just those last seconds of the song describe it in it’s entirety. Those last few seconds describe exactly what it’s like to be both roles in this scenario, and I think that’s really important because people don’t often take the time to look at both sides of a love story gone wrong.
