I’m saying this as a lottienat shipper myself so don’t get defensive but the thing with AUs is valid criticism to some degree because no lottienat in itself is not an AU. It’s a non-canon ship but there is a big difference between AU and canon divergent or canon compliant fan content. And there is nothing wrong with AUs or whatever because yes every ship has them and yes this is how fandom works but lottienat is a ship that has a lot of substance in the show and yet lottienat shippers tend to ignore that and instead just focus on AUs and it got to a point where most of the fan content is AUs. And that’s why people say lottienat is a nothingburger ship because that’s how lottienats treat it yk? If you look at the ao3 tag there’s barely any fics that actually do justice to their actual dynamic and there’s a bazillion AUs that are just basic and often OOC idk it’s just very frustrating because like I said I ship lottienat but some of the criticism the shippers get is valid

mischaracterization runs pretty rampant but what can we do yk!! it's a hugely liked ship so it was bound to happen.

i won't deny the mischaracterization allegations whatsoever because i know it's BAD and it's why when i was reading fic i was very very picky.

as for substance, i think that there's some fics that do a lot of justice to lottienat and then there's some that just... are very clearly self inserts. comes with the territory. i've never denied mischaracterization allegations though! i hope to never be on the end of one :s
